Abstract: A fluid distribution system, such as a valve, comprises a housing having a chamber which has a plurality of acoustic modes. The acoustic modes are excited when fluid flows through the chamber. An inlet passage and an outlet passage are disposed in fluid communication with the chamber. A plate is disposed in the inlet passage. A plurality of orifices are formed in the plate. The orifices conduct fluid from the inlet passage to the chamber and reduce the coupling between the flow of fluid through the inlet passage and the acoustic modes of the chamber. With this arrangement, the acoustic modes of the chamber and the resonance frequency of each of the orifices are substantially unexcited by the flow of fluid through the orifices.
Abstract: A process for preparing images on a tonable, light-sensitive layer in which a transfer layer containing a toner and a core/shell polymer as a binder is used. The core polymer has a glass transition temperature above 50.degree. C. and the shell polymer has a glass transition temperature below 40.degree. C. Such transfer layers are used in proofing processes for high quality printing.

C., the reduction of said melting point upon remelting being at least 3.degree. C., and a crystal morphology comprising a bimodal distribution of molecular chain fold spacings reflecting significant populations of both folded and very highly extended molecular chains, and (b) about 0.5 to 90% by weight of at least one filler compound having a neutral-to-acidic surface, said polyethylene being polymerized onto the surface of said filler, and said composite being substantially free of polymer-free filler and of filler-free polymer. Also provided are processes for the preparation of such composites.
Abstract: A two-piece cutter member for mounting on a sickle bar has a rigid thin support element arranged for relatively permanent attachment to a sickle bar, and a flat planar pyramid-shaped spring metal blade. A portion of the blade provides at least one bridge or loop for encircling the support element and holding the blade on the support element. A section of either said the portion or the support element is displaced with respect to the support face to releasably hold the blade on the support when the blade is fully positioned on said support element.
Abstract: A method is provided for preparing a phosphonic acid ester having the structure ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is farnesyl or a derivative or analog thereof, and R.sup.2 is lower alkyl, by treating a farnesyl halide R.sup.1 Hal(Hal=Cl,Br,I) with an alkoxide of the structure ##STR2## wherein M is an alkali metal and R.sup.2c is lower alkyl. The resulting phosphonic acid ester is an intermediate in preparing a squalene synthetase inhibitor which is used for inhibiting cholesterol biosynthesis.
Abstract: Novel hydroxy containing fluorovinyl ethers, polymers of hydroxy containing fluorovinyl ethers, novel cyclic ethers, copolymers of selected hydroxy containing fluorovinyl ethers, a process for reducing ester containing fluorovinyl compounds to the corresponding alcohol with borohydrides, and a process for polymerizing hydroxy containing fluorovinyl ethers are disclosed.
Abstract: The stabilization of aqueous or alkanolic solutions of choline and derivative of choline against discoloration on aging by the addition of an unsubstituted hydroxylamine salt to the choline solutions at levels of less than 1 percent.

Abstract: A thickener for liquids is disclosed. The thickener consists of organic polymer fibrid particles with a very small size, a very high aspect ratio, and very low bulk density. The thickener is made by drying newly-coagulated fibrid particles in a way that results in high particulate surface area.

Abstract: An automatic leak detection apparatus for process fluids from production and/or research plants, in particular energy plants comprises three different and separate sets of sensors, the first of which analyzes signals sensed in the visual spectrum through a telecamera, the second set analyzes signals sensed in the infrared spectrum through a thermocamera, and the third set analyzes qualitatively and quantitatively any change in the composition of the environmental atmosphere through a chemical-excitation mass spectrometer, and means adapted to process data supplied by said three sets of sensors, to compare said data with reference data, to store said data, to generate alarm signals at different levels, and to give assistance, if necessary.

Abstract: The process of the invention produces tapes for automatic mounting of electronic components. These mounting tapes have metallic conductive tabs with metallic bumps on at least one of their ends. The metallic bumps can be thermally welded or soldered, have well-defined areas and heights, and adhere well to the conductive tabs.
Abstract: Adhesives suitable for preparing laminates of polyvinyl chloride or polyvinyl chloride copolymers with wood or metal are prepared from a three component polymer mixture of polyvinyl chloride or its copolymers itself, a direct ethylene copolymer preferably containing units derived from carbon monoxide, and another direct ethylene copolymer containing units derived from a monomer containing glycidyl units. The adhesive is especially useful for preparing PVC/wood laminates which are subject to outdoor weathering.
Abstract: Moisture-curable melt-processible adhesives are obtained by reacting certain ethylene copolymers containing an n-alkyl acrylate and a carefully limited amount of a carboxylic acid with a stoichiometric amount of an epoxy-silane. A process of preparing the moisture-curable melt-processible adhesives in the absence of solvent is also available.

Abstract: A control device for rotary dobbies in which a key has a transverse groove of width equal to the thickness of a control ring with which it cooperates plus the length of travel undergone by the key in its insertion into or withdrawal from radial grooves in a big end of a main crank arm or in a drive shaft. The control ring has an elliptical shape and is fixed onto a operating lever which, pivoted on a minor axis of an ellipse and retained in its rest position by a V-shaped spring, is made to rock to one side or the other about the axis of symmetry of the spring by a pusher rod. The pusher arm is operated by a cam mechanism and moved by a needle selector controlled by a programmer, to act on one of two valleys provided in a rocking sector on an operating lever symmetrically about an axis of symmetry.
