Abstract: A high current, light weight, thermally stable, bidirectional semiconductor switch module in an electrical system uses MOSFET technology in a back-to-back parallel architecture. The device comprises a controller which permits it to operate in high electrical noise environments. The device is further controlled to operate in either or both directions based on external events such as voltage changes associated with the electrical system and with vehicle operating conditions. The device operates at currents typically from a few amperes to 1000 amperes and may be used as a circuit breaker, over voltage switch, isolation switch, transient protection switch, and voltage converter. The device functions to replace the solenoids and relays associated with starter motors in a vehicle electrical system.

Abstract: A method of producing a titanium alloy composite material comprises mixing carbon fibers and a powder of an element which forms a carbide in reaction with carbon, subliming the element under high temperature vacuum, and coating the carbon fibers with a layer containing the element and the carbide to produce coated carbon fibers. The method further comprises mixing the coated carbon fibers and titanium alloy powder to form a mixture, and applying a mechanical impact force to the mixture to fix the carbon fibers on the surface of the titanium alloy powder to obtain a carbon fiber-fixed titanium alloy powder. The method further comprises sintering the carbon fiber-fixed titanium alloy powder to form a sintered body and plastic working the sintered body to disperse the carbon fibers in crystal grains of the titanium alloy.

Abstract: A UV steriliser for oral appliances comprising, (a) a base including a UV source, (b) a lid, and (c) an appliance holder intermediate the lid and the base, the appliance holder being adapted to hold the oral appliance adjacent the UV source, wherein pressure exerted on the appliance holder can activate the UV source.
Abstract: The invention relates to matrix image sensors. It applies most particularly to intraoral dental radiology sensors. The invention provides a sensor architecture comprising a column decoder controlling select conductors of a column, and a row decoder controlling select conductors of a row. The pixels of a column are connected to a signal conductor that extends along the column and goes toward an analog multiplexer extending within the pixel matrix between two rows of pixels of the matrix. The multiplexer is controlled via the column select conductors coming from the decoder and it transmits the signal from a signal conductor of a selected column to an output conductor extending parallel to the rows. A signal sampling circuit common to all the columns is connected at the end of the output conductor of the multiplexer. An increase in matrix area is achieved by in practice losing only a single image row.
