Abstract: The present invention concerns a method to catalyze reporter deposition to improve detection or quantitation of an analyte in a sample by amplifying the detector signal which comprises reacting an analyte dependent enzyme activation system with a conjugate consisting of a detectably labeled substrate specific for the enzyme system, said conjugate reacts with the analyte dependent enzyme activation system to form an activated conjugate which deposits substantially wherever receptor for the activated conjugate is immobilized, said receptor not being reactive with the analyte dependent enzyme activation system. In another embodiment the invention concerns an assay for detecting or quantitating the presence or absence of an analyte in a sample using catalyzed reporter deposition to amplify the reporter signal.

Abstract: In the first embodiment, the faceplate coupling ring is of conventional design and includes an axially extending rib with a radially outwardly extending rim and a radially inwardly extending deflectable sealing strip. The pouch coupling ring includes inner and outer spaced walls, forming a channel for receiving the rib. First and second protrusions extend inwardly from points on the interior surface of the walls proximate the ends thereof. The first protrusion cooperates with the rim and the second protrusion cooperates with the tip of the sealing strip, to securely retain the rib within the channel. The walls of the channel have reduced thickness and are easily deflectable as the rib is inserted into the channel, such that coupling of the rings is facilitated but decoupling requires the conventional amount of force due to the second protrusion.

Abstract: A system for the generation of modulated optical signals, wherein to the d.c. bias current of a semiconductor laser (1) associated with an opto-electronic feedback circuit (2) including a delay, there are superimposed the variations of a current obtained by detecting an optical signal resulting from the combination of an optical, amplitude-modulated input signal and of the optical signal present in the feedback circuit. By a suitable choice of the modulation frequency (f2) of the input signal and of the low-frequency gain (B) of the feedback loop (2), the laser output signal is amplitude-modulated at a frequency equal to the modulation frquency (f2) of the input signal.

Abstract: A process for separating and recovering an organic phase (e.g., fluorocarbons such as chlorofluorocarbons, hydrochlorofluorocarbons, hydrofluorocarbons and perfluorocarbons) from a feed stream of a mixture of fluorocarbons and hydrogen fluoride, wherein the mixture is characterized as forming at least one azeotrope or azeotrope-like composition involving at least one fluorocarbon and hydrogen fluoride, by passing the fluorocarbon/HF mixture feed stream through the feed side of a semipermeable membrane unit and then further separating a fluorocarbon-depleted hydrogen fluoride permeate stream and a fluorocarbon enriched residual stream exiting the membrane unit by conventional distillation. An essentially pure fluorocarbon phase and hydrogen fluoride phase are recovered from the distillation with the azeotrope or azeotrope-like distillate being recycled to the inlet of the semipermeable membrane unit.

Abstract: Disclosed is a process for beneficiating titaniferous material which contains iron oxide. The titaniferous material is mixed with a molten salt or mixture or molten salts in which iron oxide dissolves to produce iron ions and oxyanions. The iron ions are electrolytically reduced to iron at the cathode and deposited as high purity iron on the cathode. The oxyanions react with a carbonaceous anode to generate CO and/or CO.sub.2. A beneficiated TiO.sub.2 product is recovered from the molten salt or mixture of molten salts.
