  • Patent number: 5062214
Abstract: An absolute measuring scale system comprising a scale which extends along a measuring length, and a measuring head which is movable relative to the scale. The system further includes a fine-measurement sensor which is intended to measure the absolute values within each of a multiple of intervals lying sequentially along the scale, and a coarse-measurement sensor intended to measure the absolute values with regard to the interval within which the fine-measurement sensor is located at that moment. The invention is characterized in that the scale (2) comprises a carrier made of a transparent and form-stable material, preferably glass, which has provided on its surface an outer coating or layer which forms an opaque pattern (3, 4). The pattern formed along the length of the scale (2) forms transparent, mutually parallel binary code tracks (12), preferably in accordance with the so-called Grey-code.

  • Patent number: 5062263
Abstract: An exhaust gas depurator having a catalytic activity, for internal combusn engines, further acting as discharge silencer, which comprises in combination two elements having a catalytic activity, and a substantially non-dissipative noise silencer interposed between the two catalytic elements. Each element having a catalytic activity is formed by a strip of metal sheet covered by a catalytically active material and wound to a spiral, and each strip has a number of drawn projections, inclined with respect to the longitudinal and the transverse directions of the strip, which act as spacers among the winding coils of the strip and act as baffles for the exhaust gas flow. Some openings are provided for in the strips. The non-dissipative silencer element is formed by a number of annular disks wherein tapered chambers are drawn, and the disks are coupled two by two and then the couples of disks are superimposed.

  • Patent number: 5062273
Abstract: An improved process for separating and removing non-condensible gaseous contaminants (e.g., nitrogen, oxygen and the like) from a conventional halocarbon vapor compression refrigeration system by withdrawing a vapor stream above liquified refrigerant exiting the condenser on the high pressure side of the expansion valve and then processing this vapor by use of a second compression step, followed by condensation into a receiver. The liquid halocarbon from the receiver is returned to the evaporator while the vapor phase is sent to a semipermeable membrane separation unit. The halocarbon enriched effluent from the semipermeable membrane unit is recycled to the inlet side of the second compressor while the non-condensible contaminant enriched stream is vented from the refrigeration system. Such a high pressure purge loop is useful in selectively removing non-condensible gaseous with minimum halocarbon refrigerant loss.

  • Patent number: 5063442
Abstract: A flexible image converter may be used for many different applications and may be equipped to condition or alter the converted image. An image of an object is converted to an electrical signal, and digitalized. If desired, conditioning operations are performed on the digitalized image. The conditioned digitalized image may then be converted back to an analog image signal. The analog image signal is then displayed on a spatial light modulator. The image displayed on the spatial light modulator is then superimposed on an electromagnetic radiation beam to obtain the converted image representation of the object.

  • Patent number: 5062298
Abstract: A device for measuring the thickness of a wet or dry paint film applied on a substrate without contacting the film is disclosed. The device uses an ultrasonic sensor positioned adjacent to an inductive eddy-current proximity sensor where the ultrasonic sensor measures the distance between the device and the upper surface of the paint film and the proximity sensor measures the distance between the device and the upper surface of the substrate. The two distances measured, when compared, produce the film thickness value. The device is capable of accurately measuring thickness of various paint films, such as flat, glossy and metal-flake containing paint films.

  • Patent number: 5062743
Abstract: In a drilling device, a holder is provided that is displaceable with respect to a foot in a feed direction. A drilling machine tool is carried by the holder. An electromotor provides a feed drive for driving the holder in the feed direction. The drilling machine tool and/or the holder are displaceable relative to the feed drive in an opposite direction to the feed direction by overcoming a counterforce. A switching element monitors the relative displacement and enables a signal to be derived for stopping the feed drive if a predetermined value of counterforce is exceeded. Motor current is limited to a predetermined maximum value during operation of the device.
