Abstract: Drawn polyester multi-filament yarns, preferably prepared by a coupled process of spin-drawing, and of fabrics and garments thereof, are prepared by an improved process involving treatment of freshly-extruded polyester filaments with caustic in the spin-finish, so as to improve moisture-wicking properties.
Abstract: A mounting apparatus in which the vertical, lateral and torsional stiffness of the mounting apparatus are greater than the pivot stiffness. The greater stiffnesses are produced either by loading columns in tension or compression or by bending a rectangular column along its narrow, higher moment of inertia face.

Abstract: A coating composition useful for a finish for automobiles and trucks in which the film forming binder contains reactive binder components of about(a) 25-90% by weight, based on the weight of the binder, of an acrylic polymer having at least two reactive anhydride groups composed of polymerized monomers of an ethylenically unsaturated anhydride and polymerized monomers from the group consisting of alkyl methacrylate, alkyl acrylate and any mixtures thereof, wherein the alkyl groups have 1-8 carbon atoms and the polymer has a weight average molecular weight of about 2,000-50,000;(b) 5-50% by weight, based on the weight of the binder, of a glycidyl component having at least two reactive glycidyl groups; and(c) 0.1-7% by weight, based on the weight of the binder, of a phosphonium catalyst or a blend of a phosphonium catalyst and a tertiary amine catalyst which may or may not contain hydroxyl groups.
Abstract: Polymerization of methacrylate and acrylate monomers on surfaces such as in vents is inhibited by coatings of water-base paint containing phenothiazine.
Abstract: A process for the hydrogenolysis and/or dehydrohalogenation of fluorohalocarbons and/or fluorohalohydrocarbons by reacting the fluorohalocarbons and/or fluorohalohydrocarbons with a source of hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst, the improvement comprising utilizing a rhenium-containing catalyst, which may, optionally, contain at least one Group VIII metal and may, optionally, be supported.

Abstract: A method to control the opacity of sheet formed of nonwoven material involves providing a computer with a steam pressure measurement from each of two steam heated palmer bonders. One pressure sensor from the first bonder drum and one from the second bonder drum provide signals used to control steam pressure and thus temperature of each bonder drum's surface. A signal indicating temperature of the surface of each drum and a measurement of speed are also collected by the computer/controller. The fundamental control signal is provided to the computer from an opacity sensor device which is compared to an opacity aim and then steam pressure to the bonder drum is adjusted to minimize any error signal between opacity aim measured opacity.

Abstract: An improved sputtering process for making a platinum/cobalt (Pt/Co) multilayer film comprised of alternating layers of platinum and cobalt, said improvement comprising using as the sputter gas krypton, xenon or a mixture thereof.
Abstract: The present invention relates to multistep syntheses of hexafluoropropylene from hexachloropropylene. In all these syntheses the first step is a fluorination of the starting material; later steps convert the initial products to CF.sub.3 --CFCl--CF.sub.3, which is dehalogenated to the desired product.

Abstract: Processes for the preparation of tetracyano-1,4-hydroquinone and its conversion to tetracyano-1,4-benzoquinone via a disilver salt are disclosed.
Abstract: A method for inhibiting dehalogenation of fluorinated and chlorinated benzenoid nitro compounds during catalytic hydrogenation to make the corresponding substituted anilines by conducting the hydrogenation reaction in the presence of an acidic catalytic medium.
Abstract: A conductive coating composition containing solvents and 40-75% by weight of film forming binder and pigment in a pigment to binder weight ratio of about 1:100 to 100:100; wherein the binder contains(A) a hydroxy contain polyester resin and(B) an aminoplast crosslinking agent; wherein the electrically conductive pigment is a silica which is either amorphous silica or a silica containing material, the silica is in association with a two-dimensional network of antimony-containing tin oxide crystallites in which the antimony content ranges from about 1-30% by weight of the tin oxide and the composition forms a coating on a substrate that has a surface conductivity of at least 100 Randsburg units. The coating can be used on metal or plastic substrates.
Abstract: Mesophase pitch centrifugally spun over a lip of the centrifugal rotor can be protected from coke and tar formation by conveying the molten pitch to the rotor's lip through channels within the rotor.
Abstract: A method for the manufacture of a two-piece piston wherein the top portion and the pin boss portion, which define the piston head, are fabricated separately by cold or hot forming, casting or sintering, and joined together by welding such as, for instance, friction welding. The top portion and the pin boss portion may be of the same material or different materials, and obtained by the same method or by different methods.

Abstract: An apparatus for visual logging of programs recorded on videocassettes includes a plurality of log sheets including a plurality of adjacent identical recording time areas representing consecutive recording time intervals on a videocassette. A plurality of markable program description labels each have an area corresponding to a preselected recording time interval, whereby information about a recorded program can be marked on a program description label corresponding in size to the duration of the recorded programs. The program description labels are attached on the recording time areas of the log sheet corresponding to portions of the videocassette on which programs marked on the recording time areas are recorded, respectively by means of "magnetic" transparent adherent plastic film sheets. The log sheets provide a visual representation of the portions of the videocassette on which identified programs are pre-recorded and portions available for recording other programs.
