Abstract: A system for the preparation of dot etched lithographic films, consisting essentially of a light sensitive silver halide material for tanning development and an etching solution, in which system the light sensitive material of various layers contains at least one colorant, e.g., pigment or dye with acid groups, which is stable in the processing baths and forms with bases salts soluble in organic solvents, and the etching solution contains a base that ionizes the colorant, and a solvent for the resulting ion pair.

Abstract: An ostomy coupling has a first channel shaped element for attachment to an ostomy bag and a second element for attachment to a pad of medical grade adhesive. Each of these elements surrounds a stomal orifice. The second element is made into parts. The first attaches to the pad and the second is slidable axially relative to the first part. Moreover, the second part has a flange under which fingers can be placed when joining the elements to substantially prevent the application of pressure to the peristomal area.
Abstract: Peroxide-curable fluoroelastomers are prepared in the presence of iodinated compounds, with iodine bonding to a substantial number of terminal positions on the fluoroelastomer, and comprising up to 3 weight percent of bromine-containing units selected from fluoroolefins and perfluoroalkyl perfluorovinyl ethers, and complementally at least 97 weight percent of either units of vinylidene fluoride, one or more fluoroolefins, and optionally perfluoroalkyl perfluorovinyl ethers, or units of tetrafluoroethylene, perfluoroalkyl perfluorovinyl ether, and ethylene. The resulting fluoroelastomers have improved processability, excellent strength and compression set properties, and are useful in the preparation of injection molded shaft seals, gaskets and other molded parts. The fluoroelastomer is prepared by a continuous emulsion polymerization process.
Abstract: A polymer which is useful as a thermoplastic rubbery binder for oxidizer particles, such as HMX and RDX, for the preparation of low vulnerability gun propellants is provided by a segmented thermoplastic copolyester elastomer consisting essentially of a multiplicity of recurring intralinear long chain and short chain ester units connected head-to-tail through ester linkages, said long chain ester units being represented by a structure selected from the following group consisting of: ##STR1## and said short chain ester units being represented by the following structure: ##STR2## wherein: G is a divalent radical remaining after removal of terminal hydroxyl groups from a poly(alkylene oxide) glycol having a carbon-to-oxygen ratio of about 2.0-4.
Abstract: Chlorofluorohydrocarbons contaminated with unwanted isomers during the process for their manufacture are purified by reacting the mixture with alcohol solutions of alkali metal and then separating the ether derivatives of the isomers from the mixture.
Abstract: A process for the production of esters or lactones, comprising reacting in the presence of a catalyst and under hydrogenation conditions hydrogen and an acyclic or cyclic carboxylic anhydride to produce the corresponding ester or lactone, wherein the catalyst is a supported catalyst comprising:(a) a group VIII metal, Re and Fe;(b) a group VIII metal on TiO.sub.2 ;(c) Ru and at least one of Re, Ag or Cu; or(d) Pd and Fe.Preferably, the anhydride has the formula ##STR1## and is reacted to form an ester of the formula ##STR2## or a lactone of the formula ##STR3## wherein R and R.sup.1 independently are lower alkyl or cycloalkyl; R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5 independently are hydrogen, lower alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl; and wherein R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 taken together may form a saturated or unsaturated ring, or an aromatic ring. The more preferred starting material is phthalic anhydride.

Abstract: Composite moisture and oxygen barrier structures in the form of films, sheets, tubes and bottles are described which are composed of foils of high density polyethylene and foils of polar oxygen barrier resins adhered to each other with a coextruded bonding resin composition composed of blends of predominantly high density polyethylene containing low levels of a grafted unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride and linear low density polyethylenes which are copolymers of ethylene with either octene-1 or butene-1. The preferred dicarboxylic acid anhydride is maleic anhydride. The oxygen barrier resins are preferably ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymers or amorphous polycarboxylamides from condensation polymerization of aliphatic diamines and aromatic dicarboxylic acids.
Abstract: An improved spandex fiber is provided that is particularly useful for use in tricot-knit fabrics with nylon yarns. The fiber is formed from a polyether-based spandex polymer made from a poly(tetramethylene ether) glycol of about 2,200 molecular weight which was capped with methylene-bis(4-phenylisocyanate) and the resultant product then chain extended with a diamine mixture of ethylene diamine and 2-methyl-1,5-pentanediamine in a molar ratio of about 70/30.

Abstract: There is disclosed apparatus and method for determining molecular weight by osmometry. A fluid circuit is used having two pressure measurement zones, one responsive only to viscosity effects and the other to both viscosity and osmotic effects. The osmotic effects are caused by cross-linked polymeric material within one zone capable of expanding and contracting in response to the presence of a solvent and a solution, respectively, thereby changing the effective radius of the zone and hence the pressure.
Abstract: A laminar article is provided, comprising a combination of a polyolefin, an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer having a melting point at least about 5.degree. Abstract: A hand operated stamp with two slidable housings, one inside the other, adapted to compress springs when slid together and also to rotate a stamp die from an ink pad contacting position inside the inner housing to an imprint positioin at the bottom of the inner housing. The compression springs are attached to and removable with a cap on the outer housing to save space and allow easy replacement of the ink pad.
Abstract: Method of providing an image-bearing surface, e.g., a pre-press proof, with a protective covering, comprising laminating to said surface a thin, substantially transparent integral polymeric film, the improvement wherein the polymeric film consists essentially of a mixture of at least two slightly incompatible polymers, whereby the film exhibits a 20.degree. specular gloss that is at least 5% lower than the gloss of a film prepared from any one of said polymer constituents.
Abstract: A scanning laser microscope system for assisting in the detection and characterization of fine details and structures of materials or other samples. The system can have means for enhancing light from the material to assist detection of anomalies, such as inclusions in the material and crystal lattice dislocations. The system can have means for enhancing fluorescent light emitted from the sample. The system can further have very precise means for processing signals representative of light detected from the material.

Abstract: A chlorinated terpolymer of a precursor terpolymer containing 3-20 weight percent acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, 3-20 weight percent vinyl acetate and 60-90 weight percent ethylene contains 20-60 weight percent chlorine and has a Brookfield viscosity of about 150-600 cP when measured at 25.degree. C. in xylene solution at a concentration of 25% by weight chlorinated terolymer. The chlorinated terpolymer contains 20-60 and preferably 25-55 weight percent chlorine.
Abstract: Negative-working electrostatic liquid developer consisting essentially of(A) nonpolar liquid having Kauri-butanol value less than 30, present in major amount,(B) particles, average by area particle size of less than 10 .mu.m, of a polymer prepared from the reaction product of polymeric resin having free carboxyl groups and a metal alkoxide as defined, and(C) nonpolar liquid soluble ionic or zwitterionic charge director compound.Optionally a colorant and an adjuvant compound are present. Process of preparation of electrostatic liquid developers is described. The developer is useful in copying, making proofs including digital color proofs, Lithographic printing plates, and resists.
