Abstract: A method for continuously and automatically monitoring the electrical operability and control reliability in a liquid crystal display unit and comprising, inter alia, determining the discharge or charge time of a capacitor comprised of a segment and the backplate or return electrode of the display unit when a voltage waveform fed to the segment has been disconnected, said time being determined by a binary counter which commences at the moment of disconnection of the feed waveform and stops when the capacitive discharge or charge waveform differs in binary state from the value of the segment feed wave.

Abstract: The invention concerns a process for the production of open pore ceramic bodies, wherewith is applied onto the contacting areas of the pores of an open pore matrix body a hardenable ceramic mass, this latter next being hardened and the matrix body being removed, there remaining behind a ceramic body of hardened, open pore ceramic mass. Before curing the ceramic mass, the matrix body is furnished with filaments extending, at least in one spatial direction, into this matrix body, which are removed during or after curing of the ceramic mass while forming appropriate channels.
Abstract: 3,5-Dihydroxypentanoic acid derivatives are provided which are 6-hydroxy-8-(2,2-dimethyl-1-oxybutoxy-2-methyl)-substituted-thiazolidine derivatives and have the structure ##STR1## wherein Z is ##STR2## R.sup.6 is an alkali metal, lower alkyl or H; R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are the same or different and are H, lower alkyl or aryl;X is S, O, ##STR3## or a single bond; R.sup.7 is lower alkyl; R.sup.3 is lower alkyl or aryl; R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are the same or different and are H or lower alkyl; and represents a single bond or a double bond, and are HMG CoA reductase inhibitors and thus are useful as antihypercholesterolemic agents and in treating atherosclerosis, and also as antifungal agents. In addition, novel intermediates for use in preparing the above mevinic acid derivatives are also provided.
Abstract: Azeotropic mixtures of 2,3-dichloro-1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane and methanol, the azeotropic mixtures being useful in solvent cleaning applications.
Abstract: The electrode array is a device for making multiple electrical contacts with cellular tissue or organs. The electrode array includes a base (1), a two dimensional array of conducting protuberances (2) arising from the base and serving as electrodes, and conductors (3) embedded onto the base and connected to such protuberances for transmitting electrical signals to and/or from the protuberances. The protuberances may also include an insulating layer (15) which covers either the entire protuberance or which leaves the tips exposed for making focused electrical contact. Electrode arrays may be used used singly or in combination with a second electrode array so as to form a sandwich around a target tissue. The sandwich electrode array (16, 17) may employ indexing cones for aligning the opposing electrode arrays and for limiting their vertical proximity.

Abstract: This invention relates to a process for preparing a photosensitive composition having a low heat history which includes:(a) forming a substantially homogeneous dispersion by mixing at least one photoinitiator or photoinitiating system, and at least one binder selected from the group consisting of reactive binders and non-reactive binders in the form of a dispersion provided that when said binder is non-reactive then at least one reactive component is added which is capable of reacting with the photoinitiator;(b) coagulating the dispersion to form a coagulum and a liquid; and(c) substantially removing the liquid to form a photosensitive composition.
Abstract: A carryall suitable for transporting articles including a towel to a bathing area includes an elongate and flexible pouch formed into a plurality of closeable compartments in the interior. Fasteners are formed on an inner surface of one end portion of the pouch and the outer surface of the opposite end portion so that the elongate pouch can be formed into a circular enclosure and held by the fasteners to define an area enclosing a rolled beach towel. One end portion of the pouch has an elongate shoulder strap fixed on the outer surface thereof, and a length of material is fitted across the outer surface of the other end portion of the pouch such that the elongate shoulder strap can be fitted under the length of material to hold the pouch in its rolled condition securely during transport of articles to a bathing area.

Abstract: An optical fiber material comprising at least one optical fiber and a wrapping material wrapping at least a part of the peripheral surface of the optical fiber in the axial direction of the optical fiber, wherein in its section taken at right angles to the axis of the optical fiber, the wrapping material holds the optical fiber tightly at its inside surfaces which face the optical fiber in the meridian direction of the optical fiber, or hold it tightly in at least three sites of its inner circumferential surface facing the optical fiber. The present invention provide also processes and devices for preparation thereof.
Abstract: An electromagnetic motor includes a stator assembly having a stator body with at least one pole, a primary coil associated with the stator body and electrically interconnected with a power supply such that electric current is the primary coil creates a magnetic field in the pole, a secondary coil associated with the stator body and magnetically coupled with the body and primary coil, and a permanent magnet armature positioned so that there is a working air gap between the armature and the pole. Termination of current flow to the primary coil results in a collapsing magnetic field that induces an electric current in the secondary coil to reverse the magnetic polarity at the stator pole, and thereby reverse magnetic attractive propulsion force in the armature.
