Abstract: A protein fraction isolated from tissue cultures of human diploid fibroblasts or lymphoblastoid cells inhibits the growth of heterologous human cells.
Abstract: A driver alerting device includes a transceiver adapted for mounting at the rearward end of a vehicle for directing its wave output rearwardly of the vehicle. Return wave signals for many objects within the transceiver range are picked up and supplied to the transceiver by an antenna. Any resultant doppler shift signal is amplified for driving an audio alarm adapted for placement within the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The circuit is adapted for electrical connection to the back-up light circuit of the vehicle for activation only when the vehicle transmission is engaged in reverse gear.

Abstract: Warp-knit fabric having a two-course repeat pattern of alternating first and second bar yarns. The fabric is prepared by interlocking the first and second bar yarns using a combination of knit and layed-in stitches in opposite fashion.
Abstract: A process for producing fluorine from calcium fluoride in which calcium fluoride is dissolved in a molten salt electrolyte containing an alkali metal tetrafluoroborate and the melt is electrolyzed at a temperature below 400.degree. C.
Abstract: Recovery of bis(hexamethylene)triamine from still heels of hexamethylenediamine by extraction using an aliphatic hydrocarbon having a boiling point between about 34.degree. C. and 210.degree. C.
Abstract: Ortho-Sulfonamide benzenesulfonylureas, such as N-cyclopropyl-N'-[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)aminocarbonyl]-1,2-benzened isulfonamide, are useful as pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides.
Abstract: Microcrack resistant composites are prepared by precoating and prepregging woven fabrics of poly(phenylene terephthalamide) fiber at low warp tension.
Abstract: S-Modified Adenosyl-1,8-Diamino-3-Thiooctane derivatives which are useful as interferon potentiators and polyamine biosynthesis inhibitors are disclosed.

Abstract: Two step process for preparing high molecular weight, high melting polyarylethers by polycondensing an alkyl-substituted dihydric phenol and an aromatic dihalide, and thereafter dealkylating the polycondensation product.
Abstract: Process for preparing a photographic emulsion containing tabular silver halide grains, which exhibit high speed upon sensitization, having a thickness of about 0.05 to 0.5 .mu.m, average grain volume of about 0.05 to 1.0 .mu.m.sup.3 and mean aspect ratio of greater than 2:1 comprisingA. adding silver nitrate to a vessel containing dispersing medium/bromide mixture, initial bromide ion concentration 0.08 to 0.25 N, to form tabular seed grains;B. adding an ammoniacal base solution, to achieve 0.002 to 0.2 normal of the base (e.g., after at least 2% of total silver nitrate has been added); andC. adding additional silver nitrate and halide, e.g., Br.sup.- or BrI.sup.-, by balanced double jet procedure. The emulsions are used in photographic elements for x-ray, graphic arts, etc.
Abstract: Ionomers of ethylene, unsaturated carboxylic acid and softening comonomer, e.g. alkyl acrylate and/or alkyl vinyl ether having improved low temperature properties are obtained by direct or graft copolymerization at a temperature of from about 100.degree. to about 200.degree. C., followed by neutralization of the carboxylic acid groups with metal ions, such ionomers being characterized by a low level of chain branching of up to about 5.5 chain branches/1000 backbone methylene units.
Abstract: Process for preparing photographic emulsion comprising bringing aqueous silver and chloride-containing halide salt solutions into contact in the presence of a dispersing medium to form octahedral silver halide grains having a halide content of at least 50 mole percent chloride, based on total moles of silver present, the improvement forming the grains in the presence of a crystal modifying amount of an aminoazapyridine as described in pH range of 2.5 to 9, pCl range of 0 to 3, the aminoazapyridine compound being added after at least about 6% to about 45% of the silver salt solution has been added. The photographic emulsion is useful in x-ray, laser scanner films, as color separation elements and inverse transfer systems, etc.
Abstract: A dispensing device for a radionuclide generator includes an eluant container, a receptacle for receiving the container, the receptacle being in sliding engagement with a support, a hollow needle which pierces the elastic stopper of the container so that the tip of the needle penetrates into the container, and a fixing device for holding the needle at a distance from its tip. The volume dispensed from the container is controlled by shifting the receptacle up or down within the support along the longitudinal axis of the needle.
Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of acrylonitrile by the reaction of propylene, ammonia and oxygen in a fluidized catalyst bed in which the propylene and ammonia are premixed and fed in downwardly streams that are directly aligned with upwardly directed streams of an oxygen containing gas under conditions such that there is complete mixing of the gas streams prior to the gases having significant contact with the catalyst.
