  • Patent number: 4809375
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved mattress arrangement wherein the outer portion of the mattress body itself includes a deck covering which may be a conventional fabric or sheet of waterproof material for preventing any moisture from passing therethrough and into the interior of the mattress. The removable mattress cover is removably secured to the deck cover about the outer peripheral edges thereof, as by zippers or the like, so that the removable mattress cover can be removed for laundering, washing, cleaning, or replacement. Different and distinct removable mattress covers or pads can be substituted for one another and changed with the season or desires or needs of the individual occupying the bed. Furthermore, the construction of the removal mattress covers may include upper and lower surfaces of natural or synthetic material with intermediate layers of foam materials or fill material and various single layer members or materials, such as sheepskin, or the like, can also be used.

  • Patent number: 4811398
Abstract: According to the coding method, the digital speech signal is split into subbands; each subband is coded independently of the others. The first two subbands undergo an adaptive linear prediction operation yielding a residual, normalized with respect to a quantized r.m.s. value; the residual samples are quantized and coded by a variable bit number. As to the third subband the samples normalized with respect to a quantized gain term are directly quantized and coded by a variable bit number. While splitting the subband signals into sample blocks, for the first two subbands the coefficient vectors of subband linear prediction filters relevant to each block are also determined by vector quantization and linear prediction inverse filtering operations; quantized r.m.s. values are also determined to calculate the numbers of bits permitting subband signals coding. The coded signal consists of subband signal quantization level indices, of r.m.s.

  • Patent number: 4807739
Abstract: Successive stacks of paper sheets are turned during travel along two parallel paths one of which is defined by a first conveyor and the other of which is defined by a set of two or more consecutive conveyors. The speed of the conveyor or conveyors defining one of the paths is greater than the speed of the conveyor or conveyors defining the other path so that the orientation of stacks changes during travel along the two paths. The orientation of successive stacks in at least one intermediate portion of each path is monitored by a battery of photoelectronic detectors whose signals are processed to ascertain whether or not the monitored orientation matches a desired intermediate orientation. The processed signals are used to change the speed of the conveyor or conveyors which define at least one of the paths so as to ensure that each stack assumes a predetermined orientation at the latest on reaching the ends of the two paths.
