Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for securely storing and performing digital media files in a multimedia device. The method can include the operation of storing one or more digital media files on a digital storage medium in a predetermined file format. The digital storage medium can located within the multimedia device. Data comprising predetermined file format information and the digital media can be secured on the digital storage medium without securing commands necessary to store the digital media on the digital storage medium. The multimedia device can be connected to an external source to authenticate the multimedia device. The digital media can be processed to a media form that will allow the digital media to be performed. A real time clock operatively connected to the multimedia device can be used to determine the length of time that a digital media file is stored on the digital storage medium.

  • Patent number: 7161478
Abstract: A user of a computer aided design (CAD) system graphically places fire alarm appliances, such as smoke detectors and sirens, in a drawing area. After elements are placed and physical paths are determined, a series of electrical circuit connections between alarm source elements and alarm appliance elements are determined. The electrical circuit connections define wire gauges and lengths passing through the physical paths. The wire types may be determined by predefined rules, and multiple wires may be placed in a single physical path. Subsequently, the CAD system performs electrical calculations associated with the alarm system. The electrical calculations may be based on a supervisory mode of operation as well as an alarm mode of operation. The resistance of wires in the alarm system may be based on a scaled wire length and/or a schematic (non-scaled) wire length. In one example, a backup battery capacity requirement is calculated.

  • Patent number: 7160672
Abstract: A protective, biocompatible coating or encapsulation material protects and insulates a component or device intended to be implanted in living tissue. The coating or encapsulation material comprises a thin layer or layers of alumina, zerconia, or other ceramic, less than 25 microns thick, e.g., 5–10 microns thick. The alumina layer(s) may be applied at relatively low temperature. Once applied, the layer provides excellent hermeticity, and prevents electrical leakage. Even though very thin, the alumina layer retains excellent insulating characteristics. In one embodiment, an alumina layer less than about 6 microns thick provides an insulative coating that exhibits less than 10 pA of leakage current over an area 75 mils by 25 mils area while soaking in a saline solution at temperatures up to 80° C. over a three month period.

  • Patent number: 7161049
Abstract: A process is disclosed for purifying a hydrofluoropropane of undesirable C2–C4 olefinic and C1–C4 saturated chlorinated impurities, comprising the steps of: contacting a first mixture of hydrofluoropropane, olefinic impurity and saturated chlorinated impurity with hydrogen and hydrogen fluoride concurrently in the presence of a bifunctional catalyst, for example an alloy of gold and palladium supported on carbon, capable of catalyzing hydrogenation and fluorination. During the contacting step, olefinic impurity is converted to saturated hydrogenated derivative and/or saturated hydrofluorinated derivative, and saturated chlorinated impurity is converted to a saturated hydrodechlorinated derivative and/or saturated fluorinated derivative. The hydrofluoropropane thus formed is substantially free of both the olefinic and saturated chlorinated impurities and may be used as obtained or subject to further purification steps such as distillation to remove the process derivatives (e.g.

  • Publication number: 20070003962
Abstract: The present invention relates to a Drosophila in vitro system which was used to demonstrate that dsRNA is processed to RNA segments 21-23 nucleotides (nt) in length. Furthermore, when these 21-23 nt fragments are purified and added back to Drosophila extracts, they mediate RNA interference in the absence of long dsRNA. Thus, these 21-23 nt fragments are the sequence-specific mediators of RNA degradation. A molecular signal, which may be their specific length, must be present in these 21-23 nt fragments to recruit cellular factors involved in RNAi. This present invention encompasses these 21-23 nt fragments and their use for specifically inactivating gene function. The use of these fragments (or chemically synthesized oligonucleotides of the same or similar nature) enables the targeting of specific mRNAs for degradation in mammalian cells, where the use of long dsRNAs to elicit RNAi is usually not practical, presumably because of the deleterious effects of the interferon response.
