Abstract: A self-stringing jet device which is compact and easy to string up includes a body, a yarn inlet section, and a movable venturi and a rotatable cylindrical baffle located at the outlet end of the jet. The yarn inlet section comprises a cone-shaped yarn entrance having an axis that is at an angle with the axis of the yarn passage through the jet. The venturi may be moved from a stringup position to an operating position by one or more camming surfaces on the rotatable cylindrical baffle.
Abstract: Imidazolylethoxymethyl derivatives of dioxoloquinolines having the general formula ##STR1## and their acid addition salts are useful as antifungal and antibacterial agents.
Abstract: Apparatus for use in taking chest or other X-rays, including a dispenser for the dispensing of one film sheet at a time and a film holder which receives the film sheet and holds it tightly between intensifier screens and which then releases the film sheet for developing. The film sheet and intensifier screens are sandwiched between a backing plate and a plastic sheet. An elongated vertical pressing device can be moved against the middle of the backing plate to deflect it into a curve and thereby cause the film sheet to be held tightly against the intensifier screens.
Abstract: A processing device comprises a base member with inner and outer concentric tubular shafts extending vertically upwards therefrom. There is means for rotating the shafts in opposite directions. A container mounted on the base is connectable to the outer shaft for rotation therewith. An impeller within the container is connected to the inner shaft for rotation therewith. There is a valve for controlling the flow of material through an aperture of the impeller member and an aperture of the inner shaft and downwardly through the inner shaft. A dispensing device comprises a distributing head with a fitting for connecting the device to a hose for supplying a paste-like substance under pressure, a spreading edge and a plurality of conduits extending from the fitting, through the distributing head and opening outwardly adjacent the spreading edge.
Abstract: White and colored tire sidewalls are made by fabricating a tire having a concentric groove on at least one sidewall and, after cleaning the groove and coating it with adhesive, filling the groove with a polyurethane composition based on 4,4'-methylenebis(cyclohexyl isocyanate) and one or more polyols, said composition also containing an adduct of an aliphatic diisocyanate with N-(t-butyl)diethanolamine and bis(2,2',6,6'-tetramethyl-4-piperidine) sebacate, then curing the composition at an elevated temperature. Pigmented sidewalls of this invention have high light and weather resistance and an exceptional resistance to contact staining.
Abstract: A sectional, coating die having a shaped shim between two die plates. The shim defines an extrusion slot and has an integral tab that extends laterally into a cavity in one of the plates for diverting bubbles and foam in the coating formulation.
Abstract: Polypropylene compositions having high ignition resistance, flex modulus, and impact resistance are obtained by blending polypropylene homopolymer, a propylene/ethylene copolymer, an EPM or EPDM elastomer having an ethylene content of about 50-65 weight percent and a Mooney viscosity of 35-80, mica, a commercial chlorinated fire retardant, and antimony trioxide in defined proportions. These compositions are particularly suitable for electrical wire insulation and other applications where toughness, stiffness, and ignition resistance are important.
Abstract: A means is disclosed for preventing the generation of wrinkles in wound rolls of web material. Wrinkles tend to form in wound rolls after an indefinite time of storage and growth of such post-forming wrinkles is eliminated by insertion of an interleaf of material into the outer layers of the rolled web.
Abstract: An accurate method of determining by plasma chromatography the concentration of an ionizable gaseous or volatile chemical species A in air or another gaseous medium. Small, known increments of species A plus, optionally, another calibrant species are introduced in turn into the plasma chromatograph together with the unknown sample; and the respective changes of the amplitude or area of a characteristic ion peak of species A in the unknown sample are measured. The second, optical calibrant, which is different from species A, must have similar kinetic characteristics but a different ion mobility from the ion formed by A. By means of this technique, inaccurate readings caused by background concentration variations are significantly reduced.
Abstract: An awning roller bar or lead bar is formed from a relatively thin material for attachment to the leading edge of an awning. In one embodiment, the roller bar includes at least one slideway having an exterior aperture for receiving and securing the edge of a canopy to the tubing. In another embodiment the roller bar has a plurality of planar walls, a pair of interlocking folds and a substantially triangular slideway. If desired, more than one slideway can be formed in the tubing to provide for the attachment of a screen, valance, sunshade or the like. For reinforcement, an expandable material is injected into at least a portion of the tubing core. The expansion and subsequent stabilization of the foamed material strengthens the tubing to provide a roller bar of rigid construction and light weight.

Abstract: A smooth heat-stable coating including a decorative pattern is applied to a substrate by applying and drying a primer coat and then applying, wet-on-wet, a base coat, an intermediate coat in the form of a decorative pattern, and a topcoat, then heating to dry the base, intermediate and topcoats simultaneously and to cure the entire coating. Each coat includes an aqueous carrier. The primer, base coat and topcoat include a heat-stable polymer stable at temperatures above 300.degree. C., preferably polytetrafluoroethylene.
Abstract: Furan compounds are prepared by converting butenediols, using a redox system which is an aqueous solution containing copper having an average oxidation state of between 1 and 2, a solubilizing agent for Cu.sup.+1 ions, and 0.05-2.00 moles per liter of hydrogen ions.
Abstract: A halogenated alkene is reacted with HF in the presence of TaF.sub.5 or NbF.sub.5 to produce a fluorinated alkane. Exemplary is the reaction of tetrachloroethene with HF in the presence of TaF.sub.5 to produce 1,2,2-trichloro-1,1-difluoroethane and 1,1,2,2-tetrachloro-1-fluoroethane.
