Abstract: Electro-optic displays contain a plurality of types of electro-optic media within a single layer. One form of display has separate areas which undergo different color changes so that the display can blink the same image in different colors. A second form of display has areas which switch at different rates so that images can appear transiently. A third form of display has a medium comprising multiple types of electro-optic elements having differing color states and switching speeds to allow display of a wide color gamut.

Abstract: The regulatory sequences (i.e., promoter regions, introns and enhancers) associated with the Yarrowia lipolytica gene encoding fructose bis-phospate aldolase (FBA1) have been found to be particularly effective for the expression of heterologus genes in oleaginous yeast. The promoter regions of the invention have been shown to drive high-level expression of genes involved in the production of ?-3 and ?-6 fatty acids.
Abstract: This invention is directed to a process for the fabrication of features on a display panel utilizing fibers or ribbons comprising organic polymer and inorganic material, the inorganic material containing phosphoe, conductrice metals or dielectric particles.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a retortable sealant composition comprising i) at least a copolymer of propylene and ?-olefins, and ii) at least a copolymer of ethylene and alkyl acrylate, wherein the alkyl acrylate is present in an amount ranging from about 1 to less than 9 weight percent, relative to the weight of the sealant composition. It also relates to a retortable multilayer film or a retortable packaging comprising a sealant layer comprising such a composition.

Abstract: A privacy screen for a display (e.g., a LCD) having a polarizing film and a birefringent film is described. The privacy screen transmits substantial amounts of light emanating from the display in an orthogonal (or near-orthogonal) direction while not transmitting substantial amounts of horizontal, non-orthogonal light emanating from the display. In this manner, a privacy effect results in that the display is viewable by someone only when that someone is essentially directly in front of the display.
Abstract: Disclosed herein are 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane refrigerant or heat transfer fluid compositions further comprising fluoroether, which are useful in refrigerain or air conditioning apparatus or as heat transfer fluids. The compositions of the present invention are also useful in centrifugal compressor apparatus that employ two-stage compressors or single slab single pass heat exchangers.

Abstract: A candle has a wax or wax-simulating body with a top wall, a simulated burnt wick, a cylindrical side wall, and an interior candle cavity. A partly transparent housing with top and side walls together defining a housing cavity, is located in the candle cavity. An annular, transparent flange extends upwardly to a lower surface of the top wall of the body. An illumination assembly connected to the housing, extends into the housing cavity and includes an LED, a circuit for powering the LED and a battery compartment or other power source for powering the circuit. The lamp is spaced from the top wall of the housing and positioned for casting light through the top wall of the housing, into a light directing space defined by the flange, and to the top wall of the candle body.
Abstract: A method for chemically etching of a foam glass layer to provide at least one cavity pattern in the foam glass layer. The method utilizes a substrate with at least one major surface suitable for receiving a glass layer. At least one layer of a glass paste composition in then applied onto the major surface of the substrate. The substrate and glass paste composition are then heated to a temperature sufficient enough to obtain a foam glass layer bonded to the major surface of the substrate. At least a portion of the foam glass layer is chemically etched to obtain at least one cavity pattern in the foam glass layer. The chemical etching of the foam glass layer results in an anisotropic etching rate.

Abstract: A headrest support assembly for a seat apparatus capable of positioning the headrest in a variety of positions, including a position that provides headrest support to raise the head while the seat is in a reclined position.
Abstract: An improved process, such as a microbiological or enzymatic process, and apparatus, such as an apparatus for producing a cellular product, comprising introducing a gaseous feed stream of at least one gas of low solubility into an aqueous medium containing a microorganism capable of converting said gaseous feed stream to a cellular product, entraining the gas in the aqueous medium, stirring the gas-entrained aqueous medium so that the gas is retained within the reactor for a time sufficient for the microorganism to convert the majority of the gas to product.
Abstract: A method for introducing a polymerization catalyst into a coating formulation as the formulation flows from a reservoir includes the steps of: opening the first end of a sealed dispenser holding a predetermined volume of a polymerization catalyst solution and inserting the dispenser into the reservoir such that the open end of the dispenser is positioned near the outlet of the reservoir; with the dispenser so positioned, opening the second end of the dispenser to atmosphere. The head of the liquid coating formulation in the reservoir prevents flow of the catalyst solution from the dispenser until the liquid coating formulation flows from the reservoir into the flow channel. Thus, the catalyst solution mixes with the coating formulation in a way that a predetermined concentration of the catalyst solution is maintained in the coating formulation as the coating formulation flows from the reservoir.
Abstract: An isolated nucleic acid fragment encoding a chalcone isomerase is disclosed. Also of concern is the synthesis of a recombinant DNA construct encoding all or a portion of the chalcone isomerase, in sense or antisense orientation, wherein expression of the recombinant DNA construct results in production of altered levels of the chalcone isomerase in a transformed host cell.
Abstract: An encapsulation material, intended for use in encapsulated electrophoretic displays, comprises the coacervation product of a polyanionic polymer having a vinyl main chain and a plurality of anionic groups bonded to the main chain, with a cationic or zwitterionic water-soluble polymer capable of forming an immiscible second phase on contact with the polyanionic polymer.
