  • Patent number: 7201955
Abstract: A privacy screen for a display (e.g., a LCD) having a polarizing film and a birefringent film is described. The privacy screen transmits substantial amounts of light emanating from the display in an orthogonal (or near-orthogonal) direction while not transmitting substantial amounts of horizontal, non-orthogonal light emanating from the display. In this manner, a privacy effect results in that the display is viewable by someone only when that someone is essentially directly in front of the display.

  • Patent number: 7201954
Abstract: A method for chemically etching of a foam glass layer to provide at least one cavity pattern in the foam glass layer. The method utilizes a substrate with at least one major surface suitable for receiving a glass layer. At least one layer of a glass paste composition in then applied onto the major surface of the substrate. The substrate and glass paste composition are then heated to a temperature sufficient enough to obtain a foam glass layer bonded to the major surface of the substrate. At least a portion of the foam glass layer is chemically etched to obtain at least one cavity pattern in the foam glass layer. The chemical etching of the foam glass layer results in an anisotropic etching rate.

  • Patent number: 7201289
Abstract: A method for introducing a polymerization catalyst into a coating formulation as the formulation flows from a reservoir includes the steps of: opening the first end of a sealed dispenser holding a predetermined volume of a polymerization catalyst solution and inserting the dispenser into the reservoir such that the open end of the dispenser is positioned near the outlet of the reservoir; with the dispenser so positioned, opening the second end of the dispenser to atmosphere. The head of the liquid coating formulation in the reservoir prevents flow of the catalyst solution from the dispenser until the liquid coating formulation flows from the reservoir into the flow channel. Thus, the catalyst solution mixes with the coating formulation in a way that a predetermined concentration of the catalyst solution is maintained in the coating formulation as the coating formulation flows from the reservoir.
