Abstract: A circuit may be tuned to resonate at a driving frequency. The circuit includes a source that provides an output at a drive frequency and a resonant circuit having an input coupled to the source, an output, and first and second selectable resonant frequencies. The first resonant frequency is below the drive frequency and the second resonant frequency is above the drive frequency. A control coupled to the resonant circuit output selects the first and second resonant frequencies to cause the resonant circuit to provide an output at an apparent resonant frequency equal to the drive frequency.

Abstract: Use of a composition comprising finely divided particles of (a) an electrically-conductive material; (b) one or more inorganic binders; and (c) aluminium, wherein components (a), (b) and (c) are dispersed in a liquid vehicle, in the manufacture of an electrically-conductive pattern on a substrate for the purpose of increasing the resistivity of said electrically-conductive pattern.
Abstract: Lysophosphatidic acid acyltransferase (LPAAT) participates in the second step of oil biosynthesis and is expected to play a key role in altering the quantity of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids produced in oils of oleaginous organisms. The present application provides a nucleic acid fragment (identified as “LPAAT2”) isolated from Mortierella alpina encoding a LPAAT homolog that is suitable for use in the manufacture of oils enriched in omega fatty acids in oleaginous organisms. Most desirably, the substrate specificity of the instant LPAAT2 will be particularly useful to enable accumulation of long-chain PUFAs having chain lengths equal to or greater than C20 in oleaginous yeast, such as Yarrowia lipolytica.
Abstract: The present invention refers to a method of processing soy by using specific enzyme, in other words, by using a pectinase produced by microorganisms from Aspergillus genera (such as pectinmethylesterase enzyme, produced by the microorganism Aspergillus oryzae; or the enzymes pectintranseliminase, polygalacturonase and pectinesterase, produced by the microorganism Aspergillus niger; or betagluconase(endo-1,3(4)-), produced by the microorganism Aspergillus aculeatus), which is capable of efficiently producing a processed soy powder and/or liquid with substantially no unpleasant odor, characteristic of products derived from soy, and an ameliorated digestion-absorption coefficient for human body, using soy in its integral form, in other words, utilizing all nutrients present in soy.
Abstract: A system of electronically active inks is described which may include electronically addressable contrast media, conductors, insulators, resistors, semiconductive materials, magnetic materials, spin materials, piezoelectric materials, optoelectronic, thermoelectric or radio frequency materials. We further describe a printing system capable of laying down said materials in a definite pattern. Such a system may be used for instance to: print a flat panel display complete with onboard drive logic; print a working logic circuit onto any of a large class of substrates; print an electrostatic or piezoelectric motor with onboard logic and feedback or print a working radio transmitter or receiver.
Abstract: The invention refers to a method to transform and obtain plants of woody trees, particularly Eucalyptus spp., transformed by the introduction of exogenous genes of interest into their cells. The method makes use of sterilized seeds, which are co-cultivated with Agrobacterium cells containing a transference plasmid (tDNA), and any gene of interest. The method used for the transformation employs sonication to increase the efficiency of bacteria penetration within teguments and seed embryo tissues.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for radially expanding a tubular such as a drill pipe, liner, casing or the like. The apparatus includes at least one driver device such as a piston that is typically fluid-actuated, and an expander device is attached to the or each driver device. Actuation of the or each driver device causes movement of the expander device to expand the tubular. In certain embodiments, one or more anchoring devices are used to substantially prevent the tubular from moving during expansion thereof.
Abstract: A block for use in constructing a retaining wall and comprising a body having a central cavity extending vertically there through and defining front, rear, and side walls. The side walls diverge rearwardly from the front of the block to the rear. Stabilizing wings extending outwardly at the rear of the side walls. Positioning wedges extend from the bottom surface and include flat forward surfaces for positioning the block with respect to the blocks in a lower tier of blocks. The flat forward surfaces of the positioning wedges are located nearer the front surface of the block than is the inner surface of the front wall, thereby enabling a retaining wall created from the blocks to have each successive higher tier offset from the adjacent lower tier by a set distance. The block of the present invention provides a stable block having a large coverage area at a low weight.
Abstract: A method for the production of aryl-carotenoids is provided through bioconversion of cyclic carotenoids having at least one ?-ionone ring. Expression of a heterologous gene encoding a carotene desaturase (crtU) enzyme in a host cell that produces a suitable cyclic carotenoid substrate effect the production of aryl carotenoids.

Abstract: A closing device for recipients provided with a nozzle and a cap and having a cylindrical seat provided in the nozzle and having at least one radial window in communication with the recipient; a cylindrical tubular seal affixed to the interior of the cap, having at least one radial opening and being fitted and journalled in the interior of the seat; and a sealing means, incorporated in the interior of the cap and being seated against the free end of the seat to seal it, said cap having an axial orifice opened to the interior of the cylindrical tubular seal and being selectively angularly displaced between an opening position, and a closing position.
Abstract: A header for rechargeable lithium batteries, which incorporates a riveted disconnect mechanism. The header is especially useful for rechargeable lithium batteries for high power applications.
Abstract: A safety lock with a switching unit for a computer, it has a lock set in its housing being connected to a locking cable through a manifold unit, a switching unit adapted to moving to a first or a second position, and a lock head for locking a lock hole of the computer. The switching unit has a switching lever extending out of the housing; the switching lever can be moved to a first or a second position when the lock set is in an unlocking state to control the lock head to be in a locking position or an unlocking position relative to the lock hole of the computer.
Abstract: A WDM system includes a transmission station, a receiving station, a first optical path and a second optical path. The first optical path includes a first section and a second section, the second section being capable of compensating at least partially the dispersion accumulated by a series of optical channels along the first section. The series of channels includes at least a first plurality of channels having an average dispersion of the same sign in the first optical path. The system also includes at least a first conversion device, capable of inverting the spectrum and modifying the wavelength of at least the first plurality of channels, to produce a second plurality of channels having an average chromatic dispersion of the same sign in the second optical path.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for mounting a valve stem to the rim of an vehicle wheel includes engaging a valve stem with a robotic manipulator, moving the valve stem relative to the rim along a programmable path of travel, coaxially aligning the valve stem with the aperture in the rim, and inserting the valve stem through the aperture in the rim. Preferably, the aperture location in the rim is determined at a gauging station by a machine vision system. If necessary, a power-actuated nut runner is used to tighten a nut over the valve stem. Alternately, the gauging station can use a table which rotates the wheel about a central axis, and an optical sensor detects the location of the aperture. Optionally, a probe mounted on the gauging station can be extended into the aperture to confirm the aperture position and to reposition the rim slightly if required.
