  • Patent number: 6812000
Abstract: This invention relates to a bioprocess engineering solution for a product removal process for use in a biofermentation. The invention discloses a process for withdrawing an aliquot of broth from a biofermentation vessel during at least a portion of the biofermentation, removing biocatalyst and water, chromatographically separating biofermentation products from the withdrawn broth using water as an eluent, and returning the remaining components of the broth back to the biofermentation vessel. Process chromatography permits highly selective separation of the target molecule, preventing feedback inhibition of the biofermentation.

  • Patent number: 6813537
Abstract: In an electrical apparatus wherein electrical devices are interconnected by coupling connectors and a desired interconnection of devices is achieved by an intended interconnection of mating components of coupling connectors, identification elements in one mating component of each connector produce identification signals representing identity of the mating component. Decoding means responsive to the identification signals produce an error signal representing an interconnection of connector components differing from the intended interconnection and, means responsive to the error signal effects a response when the actual interconnection of components differs from the intended interconnection of components. Responses are, advantageously, activation of an error indicator, inhibition of application of power to affected devices, or, with program controlled systems, display of a text error message, facilitation of user intervention for error correction, or automated re-programming to overcome interconnection errors.

  • Patent number: 6811362
Abstract: A method for reusing profile insert blades maintains axial, radial and profile dimensions of a cutting tool. The method includes duplicating an original profile on a used profile insert blade by sharpening a profile edge of the used profile insert blade to form a sharpened profile edge with a new profile that is shifted longitudinally along a length of the profile cutter blade relative to an original profile position. Material is removed from a reference edge of the sharpened profile insert blade to form a new reference edge, for positioning the resharpened blade in a longitudinally changed position so that the new adjusted profile has similar axial, radial and profile dimensions as compared to the original profile.

  • Patent number: 6813095
Abstract: An optical image pick-up lens is formed from crescent-shaped first and second lenses that may be aspherical molded glass lenses or aspherical plastic lenses. A convex surface at a first side of the first lens faces toward an object, and a convex surface at a second side of the second lens faces toward a formed image. The lens enables reduced lens length and high resolution by satisfying the following relational expressions: 0.4f≦d<0.9f; 0.5f≦|R3|≦100f; and 0.01<|f2|/|f1|<0.9; where, f is an overall focal length of the lens; d is a distance from the first side of the first lens to the second side of the second lens; R3 is a radius of curvature of an object side of the second lens; f1 is a focal length of the first lens; and f2 is a focal length of the second lens.

Abstract: A method of resisting corrosion in concrete containing metal elements is provided. It includes introducing into fresh concrete, containing metal elements, at least one compound capable of sequestering chloride ions. The method may also involve employing a compound which is capable of establishing a corrosion resistant oxide layer on the metal reinforcing elements. The invention also includes certain compounds which may be employed in the method as well as concrete structures containing the compounds. In another embodiment of the invention, concrete structures may be rehabilitated by providing an overlay containing a compound of the type which will contribute to corrosion resistance either through chloride ion sequestering or creating barriers around metal structural elements with the overlay being provided in situ or as a preformed member and with possible use of a slurry in combination with an overlay segment.

  • Patent number: 6809358
Abstract: A MOS or CMOS based photoconductor on active pixel image sensor. Thin layers of semi-conductor material, doped to PIN or NIP photoconducting layers, located above MOS and/or CMOS pixel circuits produce an array of layered photodiodes. Positive and negative charges produced in the layered photodiodes are collected and stored as electrical charges in the MOS and/or CMOS pixel circuits. The present invention also provides additional MOS or CMOS circuits for reading out the charges and for converting the charges into images. With the layered photodiode of each pixel fabricated as continuous layers of charge generating material on top of the MOS and/or CMOS pixel circuits, extremely small pixels are possible with almost 100 percent packing factors. MOS and CMOS fabrication techniques permit sensor fabrication at very low costs. In preferred embodiments all of the sensor circuits are incorporated on or in a single crystalline substrate along with the sensor pixel circuits.

Abstract: A printed template and method for using the template are illustrated for evaluating various characteristics of eyelashes and categorizing the eyelashes accordingly. The template has one edge portion suitable for placement adjacent an eyelid under eyelashes. The edge portion is provided with indicia representing known eyelash characteristics such as density, thickness, length or color. The indicia on the template are placed adjacent actual eyelashes such that a visual comparison can be made between the eyelashes and the indicia. By comparing the eyelashes to the indicia, a user can more objectively determine the measurements and characteristics of the eyelashes.
