Abstract: A system and method for eliminating confusion associated with checking valves, wherein additional test points are added to the measurement of a valve for ensuring the verification of the actual sources of leaks or turbulence. A base line measurement for the valve is established by measuring the level of ultrasonic sound at the two points upstream from the valve. The level of the ultrasound at two downstream points is then measured. The value of the ultrasound at the downstream test points is compared to the values of the ultrasound at the upstream test points. If the values of ultrasound at the downstream test points are higher than the values of the ultrasound at the upstream test points, then the valve is leaking. If the values of the ultrasound at the downstream test points are close to or lower than the values of the ultrasound at the upstream test points, then the valve is not leaking, i.e., the valve is good.
Abstract: Chemically different cyclic ester oligomers can be copolymerized to form copolyesters whose properties can be tailored by the choice of cyclic ester oligomers used. The copolyesters formed are especially useful as encapsulants and as coatings. In many instances the copolyesters, assuming they are not randomized in later transesterification reactions, have unique microstructures related to the sequencing of repeat units the their polymer chains.
Abstract: Novel coating solutions are disclosed that promote desirable adhesion to substrates formed from nylon, polyester, or a combination thereof. These coating solutions include nylons having specific solubility together with select formaldehyde resins and resin mixtures. The solutions provide superior adhesion and are therefore attractive to thread applications as well as formed structures.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the continuous production of liquid coating compositions by introducing one or more low-solvent or solvent-free binders in a solid or molten state into an extruder in one stage, together with pigments and auxiliaries, wherein the components are mixed and dispersed at elevated temperature in a viscous state, then introducing proportions of binders and proportions or organic or inorganic solvents into the extruder in one or more following stages, discharging the mixture from the extruder and adding further solvents and optionally further components of the coating composition and homogenizing the process mixture in one or more rotor/stator mixers.
Abstract: A method for screening the magnetic field generated by an electrical power transmission line having at least one electrical cable. The cables may be inserted into a conduit having at least one layer of non-grain-oriented ferromagnetic material, having a magnetic curve with a maximum value of relative magnetic permeability (&mgr;max).
Abstract: An electronic information browsing system that provides a book-like interface—a virtual book—for presenting electronic contents. Specifically, an electronic information browsing system that allows users to configure its behavior via data and program specification encapsulated in a dynamic file format. Configurable behavior includes but not limited to the kind of contents to be displayed in the virtual book, the sources of the contents to be displayed, the static aspects of the virtual book such as the book dimensions and the dynamic aspects of the virtual book such as when a page is to be flipped, how the flipping of pages is contingent upon the execution of certain pre-specified events, etc.
Abstract: A wireless dialing apparatus for mobile phones mainly includes a dialing device anchored on the rim of a car steering wheel by means of a pliable strap and a receiver located in a handfree handset or in a car stereo device to enable the car driver to dial phone numbers conveniently and safely without holding the handset.
Abstract: This invention relates to an isolated nucleic acid fragment encoding a branched-chain biosynthetic enzyme. The invention also relates to the construction of a chimeric gene encoding all or a portion of the branched-chain biosynthetic enzyme, in sense or antisense orientation, wherein expression of the chimeric gene results in production of altered levels of the branched-chain biosynthetic enzyme in a transformed host cell.
Abstract: A power tool comprising a drive shaft for driving a tool, a recess at a free end of the drive shaft, and a detachable securement flange having a securement section on a side facing the drive shaft is disclosed. The securement section is form-fitted for insertion into the recess of the drive shaft and comprises a flange section on the opposite side, wherein the tool comprises a respective securement opening which is adapted to the shape of the securement section of the securement flange for form-fit securement of the securement opening of the tool to the securement section.
Abstract: A cutting knife for a cutting tool for cutting through adhesive beads on glass panes of vehicles comprises an attachment part and a cutting part. The attachment part, on a first end thereof, is provided with a receiving opening for attachment to an oscillating drive and taperes toward a second end. The cutting part extends at an angle with respect to a plane in which the flat attachment part extends. The cutting part has two lateral edges that join each other at the outer end of the cutting part, at least one of the lateral edges of the cutting part being shaped as a corrugated or serrated cutting edge.
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for crosslinking copolymers of ethylene and acrylic esters by converting some of the ester groups to ester or amide groups which contain unsaturation, and then sulfur or peroxide curing the resulting polymers. The resulting crosslinked polymers often have excellent vulcanizate properties, and are useful especially in elastomeric form as seals and gasket.

Abstract: An improved antenna for use with an implantable microdevice, such as a microstimulator or microsensor, comprises a loop antenna on the case of the microdevice. The antenna receives data transmitted from an external device, and transmits data to an external device. Such a loop antenna may be formed from two cylindrical sections separated by an insulating material on the case of the microdevice, or by separating a metal cylinder into two parallel semi-cylinders separated by an insulating material. A tuning circuit comprising capacitors and/or varactors is used to obtain resonance in the loop antenna, thus creating a sufficiently large effective antenna aperture. In a preferred embodiment, the electrodes of the microdevice are modified to both perform their primary task of tissue stimulation and to perform a secondary task as the radiating elements of a loop antenna.

Abstract: A latching device (20) for a mold assembly (10) uses a cam action to hold the “A” side plate against the hot runner system/nozzle plate (18) during operation. Preferably, a latch (20) is provided on each side of the mold to effectively hold the “A” side plate against the nozzle plate (18) during the high pressure injection of plastic melt. For purposes of a mold insert change, each latch (20) is rotated to release the “A” side plate from the nozzle plate (18), and hold the “A” side plate against the “B” side plate. This enables the “A” (12) and “B” (14) portions of the mold assembly to be moved away from the nozzle plate (18), thereby avoiding interference of the hot runner nozzles and “A” side insert and enabling quick mold insert change.
