Every vehicle is equipped with a car phone. The control center includes a control computer and a data transmission device. The car phone consists of a broadcast receiver, a data transceiver, a GPS receiver, and a distance counter. By the method of the invention, the available vehicle nearest customers may be dispatched to meet customer service requirements at minimum communication costs.
Abstract: A pharyngometer or similar wavetube-based apparatus which includes a wavetube which is detachable from the electronic platform. As the wavetube includes no electronic components, the wavetube can be sterilized thermally or chemically between patients without damaging the electronics of the electronic platform. The wavetube is attached to the electronic platform by a tab in the electronic platform which fits into a lateral groove within the wavetube. Similarly, a threaded member in the electronic platform engages a threaded aperture in the wavetube.

Abstract: Novel addressing schemes for controlling electronically addressable displays include a scheme for rear-addressing displays, which allows for in-plane switching of the display material. Other schemes include a rear-addressing scheme which uses a retroreflecting surface to enable greater viewing angle and contrast. Another scheme includes an electrode structure that facilitates manufacture and control of a color display. Another electrode structure facilitates addressing a display using an electrostatic stylus. Methods of using the disclosed electrode structures are also disclosed. Another scheme includes devices combining display materials with silicon transistor addressing structures.
Abstract: The present invention is a surface treatment for inorganic substrates, using a primer solution to produce a thin film on a surface of an inorganic substrate thereby extending the shelf life of the inorganic coated substrate and enhancing bonding to a subsequently applied energy curable composition. The coated substrate can be used in a number of commercial applications, e.g., applying a polymer to the coated substrate.

Abstract: A method of producing self dispersible organic pigment particles stabilized by the method. The method includes modifying organic pigment particles and then contacting the surface modified particles with an aqueous vapor entrained in a carrier gas to produce the stabilized organic pigment particles. Typically the pigment particles are modified by exposing their surfaces to ozone or a plasma-activated process gas. The surface stabilizing method prevents the violent exothermic reaction, which occurs when surface modified pigment particles are exposed to ambient air. The method is accomplished in a device, which includes a reactor, means for introducing in the reactor aqueous vapor entrained in a carrier gas and an agitator assembly for deagglomerating during surface modification the pigment particles placed in the reactor.

Abstract: A fiber collimator includes a holder having a spacer provided therein, an aspherical lens, and a fiber pigtail. The spacer has a design thickness taking a machining tolerance thereof into consideration to be equal to or larger than an effective focal length of the aspherical lens, with a difference thereof no more than 30 &mgr;m. The fiber pigtail and the aspherical lens are separately inserted into two ends of the holder to abut against and fix to two end surfaces of the spacer. Since the spacer has a thickness varies with changes in its machining tolerance, a focus-out distance &Dgr;d of the fiber tip always randomly falls in a fixed range, for example, from 30 &mgr;m≧&Dgr;d≧0, and the finished fiber collimator always has an optimal working distance within an enlarged range from 0 to 140 mm. A method for manufacturing the fiber collimator is also described.
Abstract: A spectacle lens is disclosed. The disclosed lens provides a vision correcting area for the correction of a wearer's refractive error. The viewing correction area provides correction for non-conventional refractive error to provide at least a part of the wearer's vision correction. The lens has a prescription based on a wave front analysis of the wearer's eye and the lens can further be modified to fit within an eyeglass frame.

Abstract: We describe a system of electronically active inks which may include electronically addressable contrast media, conductors, insulators, resistors, semiconductive materials, magnetic materials, spin materials, piezoelectric materials, optoelectronic, thermoelectric or radio frequency materials. We further describe a printing system capable of laying down said materials in a definite pattern. Such a system may be used for instance to: print a flat panel display complete with onboard drive logic; print a working logic circuit onto any of a large class of substrates; print an electrostatic or piezoelectric motor with onboard logic and feedback or print a working radio transmitter or receiver.
Abstract: A method is disclosed for increasing in a composition the mole fraction of a compound selected from the group CF3CHCl2, CF3CHF2 and CF3CHClF relative to the total mole fraction of the other two compounds of the group. The method comprises (a) providing a gaseous composition comprising at least one compound of said group provided that (i) if the selected compound is either CF3CHCl2 or CF3CHF2, said gaseous composition comprises CF3CHFCl and the mole fraction of the selected compound relative to the other two compounds in said gaseous composition is less than its equilibrium amount at 50° C., and (ii) if the selected compound is CF3CHFCl, said gaseous composition comprises both CF3CHCl2 and CF3CHF2 and the mole fraction of the selected compound relative to the other two compounds in said gaseous composition is less than its equilibrium amount at 500° C.

Abstract: A fax to E-mail system and related method are shown, whereby a hardcopy document is sent via a fax device to its recipient via electronic mail through a data network (such as the Internet), and is delivered in such a manner that it can be retrieved by the recipient at an E-mail device, in the ordinary course of retrieving the E-mail, and displayed on the screen of the E-mail device. The invention provides for and accomplishes the delivery of a document, which begins as a hardcopy, as an electronic file retrieved through E-mail recipient's terminal and displayed on the computer screen of the E-mail recipient's terminal. The system and method also provides for an interface device which connects to a conventional fax device for communicating E-mail addresses and routing hardcopy documents to the E-mail network. The invention provides a means for embedding the functions of the interface device into conventional fax devices.
Abstract: A printing system includes a printing device fluidly communicating with a main ink reservoir and a vacuum pump. The main ink reservoir refills one or more reservoirs mounted within the printing device when the ink contained therein falls below a defined tolerance level. The vacuum pump varies a level of a vacuum or partial vacuum within the reservoir to maintain a pressure level at one or more nozzles of one or more print heads mounted in the printing device. Variations in the level of the vacuum or partial vacuum can be based upon the desired pressure at the nozzles, the particular volume or level of ink stored within the reservoir, and the type of ink stored within the reservoir. Through creating the vacuum or partial vacuum, the inks stored within the reservoir are degassed before being delivered to the print head.
