Abstract: A liquid crystalline polyesters or poly(ester-amides) having improved melt viscosity, is made by reacting the polymer with limited amounts of a compound containing specified functionality, such as hydroxyl, carboxyl, or amine. The process may be carried out in a typical polymer melt mixing apparatus such as an extruder. The low viscosity polymer product of the claimed invention has surprising toughness and is particularly useful for encapsulation of electronic components.
Abstract: A system is provided for preventing erosion of a bluff or hillside having a face extending between a toe at a bottom thereof and a crest at a top surface thereof, and a failure shear plane. The bluff or hillside is subject to excess water accumulation contributing to land mass degradation. The invention is improved by at least one horizontal wick drain positioned behind the failure shear plane in a water saturated zone substantially parallel to the crest of the bluff or hillside for the purpose of controlling drainage of the excess water accumulation. The horizontal wick drain is installed from the top surface of the bluff or hillside so as not to impair the structural integrity and cause land mass degradation of the face thereof.
Abstract: A cannula is described for insertion within the nose of a patient to provide drainage or to allow for postoperative suction of the sinus after surgery. The cannula is formed as an elongated tubular section with an anchoring end for insertion into the sinus. At the anchoring end of the cannula reinforced leaflets are provided as drainage channels and to serve as the anchoring aspect of the cannula.
Abstract: This invention relates to an isolated nucleic acid fragment encoding a protein involved in phenylpropanoid metabolism. The invention also relates to the construction of a chimeric gene encoding all or a portion of the protein involved in phenylpropanoid metabolism, in sense or antisense orientation, wherein expression of the chimeric gene results in production of altered levels of the protein involved in phenylpropanoid metabolism in a transformed host cell.
Abstract: Cable, in particular for medium-voltage or high-voltage electrical power transmission or distribution, for telecommunications or for data transmission, comprising a conductor and at least one coating layer based on a non-crosslinked polymer material comprising a thermoplastic reactor elastomer with an ethylene-based elastomeric phase co-polymerized with an &agr;-olefin and a propylene-based thermoplastic phase, in which the said elastomeric phase in the said thermoplastic reactor elastomer is at least 45% by weight relative to the total weight of the thermoplastic reactor elastomer, and the said thermoplastic reactor elastomer has value of enthalpy of fusion of peaks present below 130° C. and attributable to polyethylene sequences, such as HIFAX® KS080.
Abstract: A process for producing a polyester that comprises 1 to 90 wt. % poly(alkylene ether) glycol. The process comprises the step of copolymerizing (i) a preformed polyester polymer having an inherent viscosity of at least 0.4 dL/g, (ii) a poly(alkylene ether) glycol, and (iii) a dicarboxylic acid or anhydride, to obtain a polyester comprising 1 to 90 wt. % poly(alkylene ether glycol).
Abstract: A flexible ballistic resistant article is disclosed that includes a plurality of layers of fabric having an areal density of 2 to 10 kg/m2, wherein at least two of the layers of fabric are loosely woven. The loosely woven fabric layers include fabric woven with a fabric tightness factor of 0.3 to 0.6 and are made using continuous filament yarns with a linear density of at least 200 dtex, a tenacity of at least 10 grams per dtex and a tensile modulus of at least 150 grams per dtex. Adjacent loosely woven fabric layers are joined together by means for securing the layers to restrict the movement of the loosely woven fabric layers relative to one another.
Abstract: A hanger has a pinch-grip including a pair of vertically-extending components, a biasing spring, and a connector separate and distinct from the biasing spring. The connector pivotably secures together the upper ends of the components for movement, prior to application of the biasing spring to the components, between a substantially unfolded orientation, wherein the components lie in a common plane, and a substantially folded orientation, wherein the components are generally parallel. The connector is integrally molded with the components and configured and dimensioned to lie between the upper ends thereof when the components are in the folded orientation, without substantially inhibiting movement of the upper or lower ends between the closed and open positions.
Abstract: A protective helmet includes: a shell, a headband with an absorbent brow pad, and a suspension. A key is secured to each end of each of the straps of the suspension for insertion into respective key sockets spaced about the periphery of the shell of the protective helmet along its lower edge. Of particular importance to the protective helmet of the present invention, many (if not all) of the keys are molded directly to and around a strap, rather than sewn to the strap. In the method of the present invention, lengths of strap material are positioned in a mold, and plastic is injected into the mold cavity to encapsulate the straps and form the plastic component, e.g., a key for the suspension of the protective helmet. A trimming die is used to trim any webbing scrap between parts or other extraneous materials resulting from the molding of the plastic component to the straps.
Abstract: A pipe connection fitting having at one end a tapered edge (1) which communicates at its base with tightening nut (2) which communicates with male pipe threads (3) which communicates with extension member (4) having an angle cut (6) with a flow port (5) through the center of the fitting. Positive differential pressure is created by installing a differential pressure fitting facing into the fluid stream of a flow line. Negative differential pressure is created by installing a differential pressure fitting facing away from the fluid stream of a flow line. Tubing connects the fittings to a pressure tank containing the fluid to be injected in the flow line. Fluid flow past the fittings in the flow line motivates flow from the flow line to the pressure tank and from the pressure tank back to the flow line. The fitting being made of rigid plastic or metal.
Abstract: A panel, particularly a floor-covering panel, is provided that has separate horizontal and vertical locking structures. The panel has a first side edge and a second side edge. The first side edge has a groove and a locking lip, and the second side edge has a tongue and a locking tongue. The first side edge of one panel interlocks with the second side edge of another panel without adhesives or fasteners such that the tongue and groove form a joint that provides a vertical interconnection lock and the locking lip and locking tongue form a joint that provides a horizontal interconnection lock. Advantageously, one or more first side edge surfaces opposite surfaces of the second edge locking tongue have a space between them. The separate horizontal and vertical locking structures reduces, if not prevents, damage to the locking structures during joining of panels.

Abstract: A management method of this invention is a method of managing a supply chain by a computer system. This management method includes, at the input phase in the computer system, a step of treating various objects to be managed as management objects and setting lots for these, a step of assigning ID management data to each of the plurality of lots, and a step of preparing part charts or process charts. The method includes, at the output phase, a step of creating correspondence data and making allocations between two lots with linkage among the plurality of lots, and a step of changing the relationship of the allocations based on a plurality of correspondence data relating to two lots in the plurality of lots when a change occurs in a received order etc. The above management method can manage changes in state of received orders, processes, etc.
Abstract: The present invention provides for an etch and mar resistant low VOC clear coating composition most suitable for use as a top clear coat in multi-layered OEM or refinish automative coatings. The coating composition includes isocyanate, silane and melamine components. The isocyanate component includes an aliphatic polyisocyanate. The composition may be formulated as a two-pack or one-pack coating composition, wherein the isocyanante functionalities are blocked with a blocker such as a mono-alcohol.
