  • Patent number: 6375111
Abstract: A method is provided for unwinding a cake of wound elastomeric yarn from a creel, passing the elastomeric yarn over a bend in a thread guide and beaming the elastomeric yarn onto a bobbin in a warper head. The method includes the step of positioning the bend in the thread guide so as to contact the elastomeric yarn passing over the bend and change the direction of the elastomeric yarn passing through the thread guide just one time. The thread guide is attached to a base member such that a portion of the thread guide moves in response to changes in tension in the elastomeric yarn. The base member includes a mechanism for monitoring the position of the thread guide, which generates an electrical signal if the thread guide moves beyond a desired range in response to an increase in tension in the elastomeric yarn. The monitoring mechanism may also generate an electrical signal in response to the absence of tension in the elastomeric yarn passing through the thread guide.

  • Patent number: 6376952
Abstract: A floating bearing system comprising a bearing supported in a clearance fit within a bearing bracket, for example for use in fractional horsepower shaded pole type electric motors. The bearing system is self aligning, to compensate for deviations in the axial alignment of the rotor shaft. A rotation lock restrains the bearing against rotation within the bearing receptacle while allowing the bearing to settle into proper alignment with the rotor shaft by automatically shifting the pitch of the axis of the bearing. In the preferred embodiment the bracket is composed of an engineering plastic and the bearing is composed of a high performance plastic polymer, so that the bearing system is non-lubricating. In the preferred embodiment the bearing bracket is provided with retaining fingers which hold the bearing in place during the assembly and working life of the motor.

  • Patent number: 6376973
Abstract: Metal-oxygen-carbon field emission electron emitter compositions and field emission cathodes made thereform are disclosed. A process for making metal-oxygen-carbon whisker field emitters is also provided, wherein a metal substrate (e.g., tungsten wire) is coated with an organic polymer and heated to a temperature of from about 1100° C. to about 1550° C. in an inert atmosphere for about 15 minutes to about two (2) hours. The heating temperature can be reduced when heating is carried out in the presence of a catalyst, such as a copper-nickel alloy catalyst. The emitter compositions and field emission cathodes of the invention are useful in vacuum electronic applications and devices (e.g., flat panel displays).
