Abstract: An external rearview mirror has a mirror plate, a device for regulating a position of the mirror plate and including an activator, a support structure for supporting the activator, a housing accommodating the mirror plate, the activator and the support structure, a vertical pivot point located inside the housing, a device for stabilization of mirror positions incorporated in the support structure and assembled in an articulated way around the post, a base placable on a side of a vehicle and having a protuberance in which the post is supported, and a reinforcing structure located in the base, the support structure, the post and the reinforcing structure being composed of a plastic material which is similar to a plastic material for other components wherein a main part, a fitting part, receptors of screws, a lateral part in form of a sleeve and its indented side, are all composed of a plastic material and together form a single integral element.
Abstract: Fine denier poly(trimethylene terephthalate) feed yarns and drawn yarns wherein the drawn yarns are characterized by a denier per filament less than 1.5 and are drawn such that the actual draw ratio is within 10 percent of the predicted draw ratio determined according to: [(elongation to break of the feed yarn)+115]/[(elongation to break of the drawn yarn)+115)] are disclosed.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for making 3-hydroxyalkanenitriles comprising the steps of reacting an alkenylnitrile, wherein the alkenylnitrile is an alkenyl-2-nitrile or an alkenylnitrile which under reaction conditions isomerizes to form an alkenyl-2-nitrile, in the presence of a base with benzyl alcohol to form a 3-benzyloxyalkanenitrile adduct and then partially hydrogenating the adduct in the presence of a trace amount of HCl to form the 3-hydroxyalkanenitrile or fully hydrogenating the adduct to form a 3-hydroxyaminoalkane.
Abstract: A pressure gauge device that is operated as a thermal conduction manometer contains a measuring resistor (131) that is arranged in layer form on a self-supporting carrier foil and is in defined thermal contact with a gas whose pressure is to be measured. The thermal contact with the gas is through the carrier foil (11), a thermal conducting layer (123) and optionally through an extra absorber layer (124). The resistance, dependent on gas pressure, of the measuring resistor (131) is detected by a bridge circuit in which each measuring resistor (131) is assigned a reference resistor (136) whose resistance itself is dependent on or independent of pressure.

Abstract: Hydrocyanation reactions employing multidentate phosphite ligands and multidentate phosphite ligands are disclosed. The ligands have phenyl containing substituents attached to the ortho position of the terminal phenol group and/or attached to the ortho position of the bridging group. Catalyst compositions havng such ligands achieve 97% or greater distribution in hydrocyanation.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a coating composition particularly useful as a clear coating applied over a pigmented base coating, wherein the clear coating has improved resistance to marring and to acid etching when exposed to natural weathering conditions. The clear coating is particularly useful as an automotive OEM clear coating or as a refinish clear coating. The coating has two components. Component A of the coating composition includes a melamine and an acrylosilane polymer of a polymerized monomers mixture, which includes an alkyl methacrylate, an alkyl acrylate, cycloaliphatic alkyl methacrylate, cycloaliphatic alkyl acrylate, styrene or any mixture of these monomers; hydroxy alkyl methacrylate, hydroxy alkyl acrylate or any mixtures of these monomers; and a mono-ethylenically unsaturated silane monomer. Component B of the composition includes an organic polyisocyanate as a crosslinking agent.
Abstract: Compositions and methods in which dry-committed fibers are substantially homogeneously dispersed throughout a fibrous composition. The fibrous composition is characterized as having sufficient yield stress and viscosity such that the shearing forces from the mixing apparatus are effectively transferred down to the fiber level. This is accomplished by means of an appropriate thickening agent, e.g, gelatinized starch. The dry-committed fibers are exemplified by flash dry fibers or fibrous sheets that have been cut or torn into fragments less than 2 cm across. Providing fibers that have been dry-committed greatly reduces the time that it takes to obtain substantially homogeneous dispersion of the fibers throughout the fibrous composition. This, in turn, reduces the risk of mixture spoilage and mechanical or chemical damage to the solid components within the fibrous composition.

Abstract: A system and method for enhancing both the retrieval and the acquisition of knowledge from electronic databases, incorporating content expertise, linguistics, and search technology. Unlike the current content-neutral technologies, the new invention presents a platform for an automated construction of content-oriented databases, where knowledge is organized according to content, rather than according to its initial sources. The invention includes an innovative platform for an automated reorganization of knowledge, where the system automatically filters, slices, maps and links fragments of the initial files onto a modular structure of knowledge. Eventually, the system virtually substitutes the initial source files by content-files, where all of the relevant fragments from all relevant source-files are automatically integrated and hung onto the relevant node of a modular structure of knowledge.
Abstract: A washing machine includes a frame, a tub rigidly mounted to the frame, and at least one basket rotatably mounted inside the tub. The basket is an open-lattice sided container having a releasably closable lid. The basket is adapted for holding articles of apparel or other flexible articles substantially stationary relative to the basket as the basket is rotated relative to the tub. A water supply cooperates with the tub for washing and rinsing the articles held in the basket.
Abstract: Esters and other carboxylic acid derivatives of 3,3,4,4-tetrahydroperfluoroalkylcarboxylic acids are made by the iron promoted reaction of an ester of bromodifluoroacetic acid or other carboxylic acid derivatives and a (perfluoroalkyl)ethylene. The resulting products may be converted to the corresponding alkali metal or ammonium carboxylate slits which are useful as surfactants in fluoroolefin polymerizations.
Abstract: A tuber seed cutting apparatus includes a cutting section, a transport section, and a conveyor section. The cutting section includes a plurality of coulter blades coaxially spaced apart on a common axis. The transport section comprises a transport bed having a first side and an opposite second side and a plurality of rollers. The rollers move as a bed generally in a first direction towards the coulter blades, but rotate in a direction opposite the direction of the transport bed. The rollers comprise a plurality of first roller types and a plurality of second roller types that are placed adjacent either the first side or the second side, the second roller types being generally cylindrical and having a diagonal ridge placed on the circumference of the second roller type to direct items away from the sides and towards the center of the transport bed.
Abstract: Methods are provided for forming a dispersion of substantially uniform droplets. An internal phase that includes a plurality of particles suspended in a first fluid is provided and an external phase including a second fluid is provided. The internal phase is vibrated and the internal phase is applied to the external phase. Either the internal phase or a combination of the internal and external phases form a series of droplets or complex droplets of substantially uniform size.
