  • Patent number: 8737926
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for coordinating the scheduling of beamformed data to reduce interference in a wireless system. A customer premise equipment (CPE) uses a plurality of bits to quantize the phase angle of the beamformed data received by CPE and reports it to its serving base station. The serving base station selects one of the phase adjustment angles based on the bits received from the CPE in order to schedule the data transmission to the CPE. The phase adjustment angles are in ā€œnā€ degree steps.

  • Patent number: 8713196
Abstract: A data communications system includes a controller device and multiple client devices communicating with the controller device through a shared data communications link. The controller device is configured to determine a usage based multiplier value for each of the client devices and monitor the data communications link for congestion. When it is determined that a threshold congestion level has been exceeded, the controller applies a rate-limiting scheme, based on the determined usage based multiplier values, to reallocate client device bandwidth over the data communications link.

  • Patent number: 8620333
Abstract: A wireless communications system includes a radio resource manager, one or more base stations, and one or more wireless transceivers capable of communicating with the base stations. The wireless transceivers are configured to be able to measure the difference in network parameter (e.g. frequency and timing offset) between base stations within their range. These network parameter differences along with other information are communicated to the radio resource manager which is then able to update or correct the signal or signals of one or more base stations using the information from the wireless transceivers.

  • Patent number: 8543121
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for allocating frequency resources based on historical usage data in a wireless communication system. A base station tracks its local usage pattern to generate a set of historical usage statistics. The base station may share those statistics with another base station node in the same network and with a server. The server may generate a frequency resource allocation plan to allocate shared resources most efficiently to various base stations based on historical usage information. Allocating frequency resources in this manner reduces the probability of cochannel interference between nearby cells and optimizes power solutions for local and regional radio access networks.

  • Patent number: 8537731
Abstract: A system and method are described for reducing congestion in a wireless network. A wireless base station becomes congested when substantially all of the available base station airlink resources are being used during a period of time. It is useful, however, to distinguish between periods of congestion with few users and periods where a larger number of users are using the base station. When there are few users a congestion situation is not necessarily a problem, while it is more likely that users' quality of experience and quality of service suffers as the number of users increases. This system and method determines when a base station is congested and implements a congestion prime management scenario when the number of active users is above an activity threshold.

  • Patent number: 8538435
Abstract: A networked computing system including multiple network base stations, user equipment, a network resource controller (NRC), and a data communications network facilitating communications amongst all devices of the networked computing system. The NRC determines a current radio channel available capacity based on a user load associated with regional user equipment, and then forecasts a maximum radio channel capacity based on the current radio channel available capacity. The NRC may be a network base station and it may determine a number of additional user equipment it can support as a component of the forecast maximum radio channel capacity. The NRC/base station may be further configured to determine a handover threshold utilizing the forecast maximum radio channel capacity, and when the NRC base station's number of users exceeds the handover threshold, one or more user equipment may be handed over to a second network base station with better service capacity.

  • Publication number: 20130176973
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for coordinating the scheduling of beamformed data to reduce interference in a wireless system. A first optimum phase adjustment is determined to increase the gain of an intended signal at a mobile device. A second optimum phase adjustment is determined to decrease the gain of interfering signals received at the mobile device. Using a phase adjustment map, a transmission is scheduled at a base station within wireless resources using the first optimum phase adjustment, at the same time an interfering base station is transmitting at the second optimum phase adjustment angle. Thus, signal strength is greatly improved while interference is greatly reduced, improving the efficiency of the wireless system.
