  • Patent number: 8652493
Abstract: The present invention pertains to oil-in-water emulsion compositions having hydrophobic materials stably dispersed therein and methods for making such. The preferred method of making the emulsion compositions the formation of two O/W emulsions. A first O/W emulsion is for wetting or otherwise pre-treating the hydrophobic components. Thereafter, the first emulsion is added to a second O/W emulsion after the second emulsion has been formed. Both emulsions use a ternary surfactant blend of cationic, anionic and bridging surfactants, making the finished product a double or “binary-CAN” emulsion system. Generally, the system has a bi-modal oil droplet distribution.

  • Patent number: 8597667
Abstract: A system and methods are provided for targeted and individualized delivery of multiple skin benefit agents to the skin of a user. The image of a predetermined treatment area of the user's skin is first captured by an imaging device. The captured image data is then analyzed by a computing device to generate a unique skin profile for the user. Based on such skin profile, a printing device prints out one or more cosmetic delivery sheets that can be applied to the predetermined treatment area. Each of the cosmetic delivery sheets contains a substrate with multiple isolated, discrete regions, while at least two of the regions are imprinted with different skin benefit agents for treating different skin conditions of the predetermined treatment area according to the unique skin profile of the user.

  • Patent number: 8585307
Abstract: A system for sampling a heated product comprising a disposable first subassembly and a physically separate reusable second subassembly. Prior to use, the two subassemblies are able to form a rigid connection. As a result of forming this connection, a portion of an electric heating circuit is inserted into an interior space of an applicator head. After forming the connection, the first subassembly is broken, the electric heating circuit is turned on, and the applicator head is used to apply product.

  • Patent number: 8578948
Abstract: A cosmetic brush includes bristles made from shape memory polymer (SMP) filaments or fibers. The shape memory polymer filaments are selected to exhibit a first shape during assembly of the brush, and a second shape after exposure to an external stimulus in the form of heat or other energy. The SMP filaments are initially assembled to the base of the brush. The first shape can be straight to facilitate assembly of the fibers to the base. The second shape, after assembly and after being subjected to the external stimulus, can be any bristle shape suitable for enhancing the function of the brush, e.g., kinked, wavy or coiled. The brush may be comprised solely of SMP filaments, or may be a blend of SMP filaments and any other suitable filament (e.g., nylon, natural plant or animal fibers, etc.).

  • Patent number: 8573874
Abstract: A cosmetic applicator formed from ceramic material covered in a metal sheath. The tip is designed to provide a product chilling effect when applying creams, lotions, treatment products, etc. The applicator is provided with a relatively substantial mass of ceramic material so that it has a greater thermal capacity than the dose of cosmetic and the application area combined. The applicator is in the form of a molded-ceramic applicator head or applicator tip sheathed, coated or plated in metal. The tip provides a relatively larger product-chilling effect to both the dose of cosmetic applied and to the user's skin in the application area when applying creams, lotions, treatment products, etc. The applicator provides an application device which will deliver the creams, lotions, treatment products, etc.
