Patent number: 5745772Abstract: A computer system having an advanced programmable interrupt controller (APIC) is described in which an I/O APIC module is included in core logic circuitry coupled between a processor bus and a system bus. An interrupt controller is included in bridge circuitry coupled between the system bus and an expansion bus. System and expansion bus devices requiring service output interrupt request signals (IRQs) which are received by the interrupt controller. The interrupt controller then outputs an interrupt signal which is received by the I/O APIC module. The I/O APIC module initiates a system bus acknowledge cycle to receive an interrupt vector from the interrupt controller. The I/O APIC module converts the interrupt vector into a system-appropriate APIC protocol and transmits the vector on an APIC bus to local APIC modules integrated within processors of the computer system.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1996Date of Patent: April 28, 1998Assignee: Micron Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Dean A. Patent number: 5745183Abstract: A disclosed method and apparatus reduces the number of computations and simplifies the hardware required to provide compressed video output data. Video input data is converted into input pixel blocks. Best predicted blocks and associated motion vectors are determined for input pixel blocks located in a predetermined area of the image. In addition, candidate predicted blocks are determined for other input pixel blocks. This is done by .extrapolating motion vectors from the previously determined associated motion vectors and identifying candidate predicted blocks using the extrapolated motion vectors. The candidate predicted blocks are mutually compared, and one of the blocks is selected consistent with compression data rate requirements. The selected block is compressed to provide an output block which is formatted into an output data packet.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1995Date of Patent: April 28, 1998Assignee: Thomson Consumer Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Wai-Man Lam

Patent number: 5744970Abstract: A measuring apparatus and method of a permittivity of a dielectric material employs a cavity and a variable reactance connected to the outside the cavity to measure the permittivity of the dielectric material, in which a power-feeding post is installed within the cavity, the variable reactance for forcibly resonating the cavity is attached to the upper portion of the cavity at the end of the power-feeding post, a network analyzer is connected to the power-feeding post, and the dielectric material specimen to be measured fills up the cavity, so that the length of the variable reactance is adjusted to forcibly resonate the cavity and, at this time, the length of the variable reactance is measured to determine the permittivity of the dielectric material. Thus, unknown permittivity is simply measured while enabling the broadband measurement. A small cavity at a cut-off state is employed to be suitable for measuring the permittivity in a low frequency band.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1997Date of Patent: April 28, 1998Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventors: Ki Chai Kim, Se Yong Ro
