  • Patent number: 5736842
Abstract: A circuit technique that substantially reduces the boost-converter losses caused by the reverse-recovery characteristics of the rectifier is described. The losses are reduced by inserting an inductor in the series path of the boost switch and the rectifier to control the di/dt rate of the rectifier during its turn-off. The energy from the inductor after the boost switch turn-off is returned to the input or delivered to the output via an active snubber. The same technique can be extended to any member of the PWM-converter family.

  • Patent number: 5732357
Abstract: A method of transmitting paging messages over a paging system configurable to provide coverage over a primary geographic area or region and at least two subregions defined within the primary geographic region. The paging system consists of a plurality of paging transmitters that broadcast paging messages to the primary geographic region. Some of the plurality of paging transmitters are also assigned to broadcast to a particular subregion within the primary geographic area. During primary operation, for part of a predetermined period of time, all of the paging transmitters within the paging system simulcast paging messages to subscribers entitled to coverage over the whole primary geographic region. For a remaining period of broadcast time, each of the paging transmitters assigned to broadcast to a respective subregion broadcast paging messages intended for subscribers entitled only to paging coverage within that particular subregion.

  • Patent number: 5731525
Abstract: An extraction force tester which measures the force necessary to remove header pins from the sockets of a cable connector in a steady straight line motion, the extraction force tester includes: a base, a tensile force gauge slidably mounted to the base and a pin assembly slidably mounted in relation to the base such that the pin assembly may slide independently of the tensile force gauge. The pin assembly has a specified number of pins, e.g., twelve, for engaging the sockets of a connector. The extraction force tester further excludes a coupler for coupling the pin assembly to the tensile force gauge such that the force gauge may push the pin assembly in a first direction, to allow the pins of the pin assembly to engage the sockets of the connector, and pull the pin assembly in a second direction, opposite to the first direction, to disengage the pins from the sockets, thereby allowing the force gauge to measure the extraction force necessary to disengage the pins from the sockets.
