  • Patent number: 5686767
Abstract: A method and apparatus for apportioning standby power implements a first transition mode between standby and run modes of operation in which a control circuit is energized by a standby power supply in a fully active state and generates an on/off command signal responsive to detection of an input signal and a second transition mode between the standby and run modes of operation in which the control circuit is energized by the standby power supply in a partially active state and generates the on/off command signal and a drive signal generator is fully energized by the standby supply. An intermediate transition mode may also be implemented between the first and second transition modes, in which the control circuit and the generator are both energized in a fully active state for a brief interval by the standby power supply and an auxiliary energy source.

  • Patent number: 5686969
Abstract: A method for adjusting the screen size in televisions capable of optionally adjusting vertical and horizontal screen size without setting a number of screen size change modes for a variety of source images so that viewers can watch the screen with the desired size. The method includes the steps of determining whether a screen size change key input has been generated and when it has been determined that the screen size change key input was generated, determining whether a screen expansion key input or a screen contraction key input has been generated. When it has been determined that the screen expansion key input was generated, the method includes incrementing horizontal and vertical size data by one step, respectively, thereby expanding the screen size.

  • Patent number: 5686974
Abstract: A high-speed video switch uses a current-mode switch to switch between a first input video signal and a second input video signal. Each of the first and second input video signals are input to the video switch through clamping circuits which clamp a blank level of the input video signals to a predetermined constant level. Preferably, the blank level of the first and second input video signals are clamped to two volts. An output signal is output by the video switch which represents one of the input video signals. The video switch receives two control signals from the video system. The two control signals control which one of the input video signals is represented by the output signal. A back-to-back diode configured isolation circuit is used to isolate the one of the two input video signals which is not represented by the output signal.

  • Patent number: 5686866
Abstract: A more rapid charging of an integrating capacitor of a PLL is provided when large frequency changes are desired. In one embodiment, the phase locked loop (PLL) circuit sinks or sources current to charge or discharge the integrating capacitor. A threshold voltage proportional to a current through the capacitor turns on an augmenting circuit which sinks or sources more current of the proper polarity to the integrating capacitor from an external source until a PLL lock is achieved. Once the lock is achieved, if a small correction current is required by the PLL, the small correction current is below a threshold required to actuate the augmenting circuit, and the PLL loop behaves in the usual manner as if the augmenting circuit were not present. In another embodiment, the integrating capacitor is reduced in value by switchably connecting a second capacitor in series with the integrating capacitor so that the total reduced capacitance of reduced value can be charged more quickly.

  • Patent number: 5683053
Abstract: Film transport apparatus for a cine-video system in which video signals are produced from film that is driven between supply and take-up reels. The film, which may be wound in A or B configuration on each reel, is threaded automatically about a film drive mechanism which transports the film from the supply reel, through a film gate to the take-up reel. Tensioning apparatus imparts tension to the film at the entry and exit of the film gate which, during the threading operation, causes the respective reels to rotate before film actually is transported therebetween. The direction in which each reel rotates to unwind film therefrom when tension is imparted serves to identify whether the film is wound in A or B configuration. Advantageously, a programmable processor controls the film transport speed in response to a user-actuated knob; and this same processor serves to detect when the film approaches its end on the supply or take-up reel.

  • Patent number: 5681439
Abstract: A specially configured intermediate structure used in a stage of selective anodization during the manufacture of a circuit. The specially configured intermediate structure includes: a metal line having at least two edges; and a photoresist mask applied over a portion of the metal line that is to remain unanodized. A configuration of each of the edges of the metal line is such that the length of each edge under the mask is greater than the length of the mask. The extra length of the specially configured edge prevents a problem in later stages of the circuit manufacture due to unwanted, and practically unpreventable, seepage of the anodic oxidation chemical under the mask, along the edge, by the anodic oxidation chemical.

  • Patent number: 5682282
Abstract: A head feeding device includes a screw shaft having a thread groove formed with a predetermined pitch, a driver for turning the screw shaft, a head guided in the axial direction of the screw shaft by a shaft bearing sliding on a surface of the screw shaft, and an engagement member that engages in the thread groove of the screw shaft and converts the turning force of the screw shaft into the axial head moving force. A second groove for containing a lubricant is formed on the screw shaft having the same pitch as that of the thread groove. The second groove retains lubricant scraped out of the thread groove by the engagement member. Therefore, lubricant is reliably supplied to the sliding surfaces between the screw shaft and the shaft bearing, thereby eliminating problems caused by increased friction or seizure, and thereby improving the head feeding accuracy.
