Abstract: A disk player with a disk select function includes a disk playback unit having of a rotation mechanism for rotating a disk and a pickup positioned to face the disk, a storage area, defined in a location overlapping the disk playback unit for accommodating a magazine in which a plurality of disks are stored, a drive mechanism for moving the magazine into and out of the storage area, and a selecting/taking-out mechanism for taking out a desired one of the disks in the magazine and setting it in the disk playback unit while the magazine is moved out of the storage area. The disk player is constructed in the form of a single player unit equipped on a dashboard or the like, and a desired disk in the magazine is selectively taken out in the player unit. The top level of an elevated clamper is kept as low as possible to reduce the player thickness, while providing a large spacing between the clamper and the rotation mechanism.
Abstract: A processor is described for monitoring a sensor whose output signal follows a nonlinear curve in response to a linear change in a monitored phenomenon. The processor converts the sensor signal to a linear output proportional or equal to the phenomenon being monitored. The processor includes a memory for storing a table which includes a starting data point value S on the curve, a starting slope value S' to another data point on the curve, a starting curvature value S" for a succession of the data points on the curve and a plurality of rate of change of curvature values S'" for the curve. The values of S'" for a first region of the curve are calculated based on an initial output signal interval between data point values. The values of S'" for each succeeding region of the curve are based on increasing, by a preselected factor, the signal interval between data point values. The processor includes a calculation device for computing repeated aditons of the S', S", S'" values.
Abstract: A switching control circuit for energizing a lamp in response to a decrease in ambient light below a predetermined level includes a photosensor and a timer circuit that responds to the photosensor indicating that the ambient light level is below a predetermined level by gating a solid state switching device into conductance to energize the lamp. The photosensor is powered by the signal that gates the switching device in a manner that renders the photosensor operative only when the lamp is not energized. Therefore, the lamp is energized upon the onset of dusk for a predetermined period of time during which the photosensor is disabled. After the period of time has expired, the lamp is deenergized and the photosensor is again enabled for a brief period of time to determine whether ambient light is still below the predetermined level. If it is, the light is again energized for another period of time. If not, the light remains deenergized.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a control system for an air delivery system having a supply duct through which air is delivered into at least one independently controlled zone or room through an air delivery register. The control system for one zone or room includes a wireless air flow control thermostat to transmit a wireless air flow control signal output to an electrically powered and electrically self sufficient register air flow control unit that controls the flow of the air through the register in response to receiving the wireless airflow control signal output. The electrically powered and electrically self sufficient register air flow control unit includes an electrical generator to provide power in response to flow of air through the register from the supply duct. The generated electric power is delivered to the register air flow control unit to thereby maintain the register flow control unit electrically self sufficient and free from the need of any outside electrical power source.
Abstract: An implosion-resistant cathode-ray tube has an evacuated envelope with a faceplate panel which includes a substantially rectangularly-shaped viewing portion that extends to a peripheral sidewall. The sidewall has corners and oppositely disposed flattened portions. An implosion protection band, having a predetermined width, extends around the sidewall. A plurality of mounting loops are formed in the implosion protection band, in the direction of the width, to accommodate mounting bolts. Each of the mounting loops is closed adjacent to the sidewall to ensure the structural integrity of the implosion protection band.
Abstract: A PEMF double-transducer system (FIG. 1) used for PEMF therapy (such as after spinal fusion) uses a two-transducer configuration for generating flux-aided electromagnetic fields. The semi-rigid transducers (12, 14) are conformable, anatomically contoured and flat-wound to enhance patient comfort, and incorporated with an adjustable belt (16) to provide bracing. The belt includes compartments for a drive electronics module (22), and a rechargeable battery pack (24), making the system portable. The drive electronics (FIG. 3) includes a PEMF processor (41) that executes a PEMF program for providing pulsing current to the front and back transducers at predetermined intervals, thereby activating the electromagnetic field according to a prescribed PEMF regimen.

The power supply of this invention may be incorporated as part of the EOT unit or it may be supplied as a power kit modification for existing EOT units in order to replace electric storage batteries in these units.
Abstract: Mobile communication apparatus for use on a vehicle for receiving and transmitting a signal has a transmit/display terminal which is disabled when vehicle motion is permitted. More specifically, a transmitted signal is received, processed and supplied to the display terminal only if a sensor device indicates that vehicle motion is inhibited. If, however, the sensor device indicates that vehicle motion is permitted, the display terminal is disabled and an audible or other signal is generated to announce reception of the signal. Upon hearing the audible signal, the driver of the vehicle may park the vehicle at a convenient location, at which time the processed signal is displayed. Similarly, a unit for transmitting driver initiated signals is inhibited if the sensor device indicates that vehicle motion is permitted, and is enabled if the sensor device indicates that vehicle motion is inhibited.
Abstract: Apparatus for processing harmonically related plural quadrature amplitude modulated carriers includes sampling apparatus for converting the plural modulated carriers to sampled data format. The sampling apparatus is arranged to sample the signals at a frequency equal to four times the symbol rate of the highest frequency carrier such that alternate samples correspond to in-phase and quadrature-phase components of the signal. The sampled data signals are resampled to separate respective in-phase and quadrature-phase components of the respective signals. The in-phase samples of the respective signals are time division multiplexed and coupled to a Nyquist or symbol shaping filter arranged to operate in a time division multiplexed manner.

Abstract: A first voltage-to-current converter responsive to a picture height adjustment control signal generates a first current in a capacitor for producing a trace portion of a sawtooth signal in the capacitor having a rate of change that is adjustable in accordance with an adjustment of the control signal. A second voltage-to-current converter responsive to the control signal generates a second current in a resistor for producing a third signal that is adjustable in accordance with the control signal. The sawtooth and third signals are coupled via a differential amplifier to a vertical deflection winding to produce a vertical deflection current in accordance with a difference between the sawtooth and third signals such that picture height adjustment does not affect vertical centering.
Abstract: The present invention provides an analog to digital converter including an integrator for charging and discharging a capacitor according to two currents of opposite direction containing a component of the analog input signal which is continuously connected. Also, a control circuit periodically switches on one current which remains until the integrator output reaches a reference level at which time the opposite direction current is switched on. A number of such cycles forms an integration period closely approximating a predetermined period. The control circuit measures the total amount of time of the integration period and also the accumulative amount of time that current flow is in a predetermined direction. From these two times, a digital representation of the analog input signal is calculated. The next integration period begins at the end of the previous to achieve a maximum conversion rate for a given integration period.
