Patent number: 5287189Abstract: A video display unit and deflection system are synchronized with a first video signal. A detecting circuit determines whether the first video signal has more than one field type. A second video signal has more than one field type. A multiplexer combines the first and a second video signals for a simultaneous video display. A video signal processor is responsive to the detecting circuit and has two modes of operation. In a first mode of operation, when the first video signal has more than one field type, all fields of the second video signal are an output to the multiplexer. In a second mode of operation, when the first video signal has only one field type, only one field type of the second video signal is an output to the multiplexer. The video signal processor has a memory for storing the second video signal. Only one field type of the video signal is written into and read from the memory during the second mode of operation.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1992Date of Patent: February 15, 1994Assignee: Thomson Consumer Electronics, Inc.Inventors: Nathaniel H. Patent number: 5285282Abstract: A display system controls vertical zoom and panning. A video display has a first format display ratio. A circuit, for example one generating a raster, maps on the video display an adjustable picture display area represented in a video signal having a vertical synchronizing component. The picture represented in the video signal has a second format display ratio. A vertical height control circuit, for example one controlling the vertical height of the raster by controlling the vertical deflection current, selectively enlarges the picture display area relative to the video display. A panning control circuit adjusts in phase a vertical blanking interval relative to the vertical synchronizing component to control which portion of the enlarged picture area is displayed and which portion is not displayed. The format display ratios can be the same or different, for example 16.times.9 for the video display and 4.times.3 for the picture, in the latter case.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1992Date of Patent: February 8, 1994Assignee: Thomson Consumer Electronics, Inc.Inventors: Enrique R. Patent number: 5284059Abstract: A silicon chip is micromachined so that a plurality of tines extend radially and coplanarly from an outer peripheral surface of a circular base. First and second mounting members extend from the base for mounting the base to a support. The first mounting member is disposed generally perpendicularly to the second mounting member. A pulse generator applies electrostatic or electromagnetic pulses to successive free ends of the plurality of tines so that each tine momentarily vibrates in the plane in rotational sequence along the circumference of the base. The successive vibrations establish a net angular momentum approximating a spinning wheel so that rotation of the sensor about the axis of one of the first or second mounting members causes the other mounting member to experience a deformation due to coriolus force.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1993Date of Patent: February 8, 1994Assignee: Bei Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Lawrence A. Patent number: 5283807Abstract: EMI suppression technique that pseudorandomizes the positive or negative going transitions that are used to represent one binary state in a transmitted digital signal such as in an MTL-3 data format. By pseudorandomizing the selection of these transitions, substantial spreading of the spectral energy occurs. Descrambling need not occur since each transition is recognized as the encoded binary state. Thus, the data sender can encode the data and suppress EMI without any changes to the receiver's equipment.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1992Date of Patent: February 1, 1994Assignee: Tutankhamon Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Martin H. Patent number: 5282154Abstract: A digital transversal IIR filter, in which the sum of the magnitudes of a large number of coefficient multipliers (which may be real or complex) is greater than unity, may be stable or it may be unstable. The present invention is directed to (1) a test for stability in such a filter which is simpler and faster than solving a large number of polynomial equations, and (2) the repair of a filter found by this test to be unstable. Specifically, means responsive to the respective gradients of the magnitudes of chirp-z transforms of time-domain multiplier coefficient values within one or more selected localized regions of the complex in-phase (I), quadrature(Q) frequency-domain plane determine that a filter is unstable whenever the gradient of the magnitude values of the chirp-z transform within a selected localized region of the frequency-domain plane indicates that there is a pole in the frequency-domain plane that is located beyond the boundary of a frequency-domain unit circle.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1992Date of Patent: January 25, 1994Assignee: Thomson Consumer Electronics, Inc.Inventors: Paul G. Patent number: 5278361Abstract: A multiple speaker loudspeaker system wherein an internal baffle extends the full length of the interior volume dividing the interior volume into two unequal portions. The baffle has folded portions, which is not parallel to the walls of the enclosure. Loudspeakers are mounted onto the folded portions within a first volume. The loudspeakers radiate sound into a second volume. One of the first and second volume is ported in a bandpass configuration, to the outside of the enclosure. Thus, the non-parallel portions of the baffle reduce unwanted peaks and/or cancellations in the sound emanating from the enclosure. Additionally, the baffle is secured along its width to top and bottom walls of the enclosure, thus also providing extra rigidity to the enclosure.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1993Date of Patent: January 11, 1994Assignee: Thomson Consumer Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Daniel J. Patent number: 5276357Abstract: A drive circuit generates a quasi-square wave for use in switching power amplifiers by supplying square wave signals which are 180.degree. out of phase, but otherwise identical, to the respective control inputs of two switching transistors. Opposite ends of the respective controlled paths of the transistors are connected to the input of the device which is being driven. The driven device input has a capacitance associated therewith, which normally results in a voltage loss as this capacitance is alternately charged and discharged. The circuit component values are selected so that this capacitance is charged while the switching transistors have yet to reach their threshold voltages, and thus at the moment when either transistor is switched to a conducting state the voltage across that transistors controlled path will be substantially zero, and the normal switching loss, which is a product of the square of that voltage, the input capacitance of the driven device, and the operating frequency, is eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1992Date of Patent: January 4, 1994Assignee: Broadcast Electronics, Inc.Inventor: David W.
