Abstract: A television receiver provides a noise-free set up signal by automatically selecting an unused baseband video input terminal, or an unused pair of SVIDEO input terminals. Selection of the unused terminals provides a D.C. level to the luminance path, and allows the horizontal oscillator to free-run. In addition to selecting an unused video input terminal, the subject apparatus automatically increases the brightness level a few steps to simulate a 7.5 IRE flat field (commonly known as set up). The above-listed steps may be performed manually by a service technician, for television receivers not incorporating apparatus for automatically performing the steps.
Abstract: A chip carrier socket which includes conductive contacts each having an outwardly extending upwardly directed cantilevered projection which engages a moveable top forming a part of the socket. The top, when moved downwardly, relative to the base of the socket which carries the contacts forces the contacts outwardly to allow the insertion or removal of the chip carrier. The top includes a multiple-angled camming surface which engages the upwardly extending cantilevered projection of each contact to apply a more generally even force against the contact during depression or downward movement of the top.
Abstract: The digitized video image data stored in a video RAM in a pix-in-pix television receiver is modified by the addition of digital data from an external computer via a computer interface circuit under control of the pix-in-pix controller. The computer interface circuit is coupled to the internal controller of the television receiver via an external input terminal. The additional digital data received from the external computer may be representative of either text or graphics to be merged into the stored video image.

Abstract: A surveillance camera system comprises a spherical housing that has a partially transparent lower, hemispherically shaped gold coated dome with a geometric center. A camera mount is mounted in the housing for panning movements about a vertical pan axis and tilting movement about a horizontal tilt axis. A video camera is mounted to the camera mount and electric motors are mounted for panning and tilting the mount and camera. A computer and control circuit is mounted to the camera mount and coupled to actuate the electric motors to orient the camera and to actuate the camera zoom and focus as well as to enhance the camera's video image with descriptive word captions. The computer is programmed for automatic or manual operation of the system. A rotary electric connector is mounted to the housing and connects the on board computer with a joystick and control unit for issuing instructions to the computer and connects the camera to an ancillary video display.
Abstract: An active amplifier is responsive to a vertical parabola voltage developed across a trace or S-shaping capacitor for developing a DC voltage at an increased voltage level than can be obtained by rectifying the parabola voltage. The increased voltage level is developed in a capacitor, during part of the period of each scan. The capacitor is discharged through a parallel resistor. During normal scanning, the capacitor voltage, alternately, increases and decreases, but remains above a threshold level as detected by a comparator. Upon scan loss, the capacitor discharges below the threshold and the comparator triggers blanking of the kinescope driver. In this way, the phosphors of a cathode ray tube of a television, especially a projection television, are protected from burning due to a loss of electron beam deflection.
Abstract: The stored digitized video image data stored in a video RAM is transferred from the video RAM in a pix-in-pix television receiver to an external computer via a computer interface circuit under control of the pix-in-pix controller. The computer interface circuit is coupled to the internal controller of the television receiver via an external terminal. The external terminal receives digital control data from the external computer and conveys the stored digitized video image data signals from the video RAM to the external computer.

Abstract: A television receiver high voltage generator includes a high voltage transformer for developing an ultor accelerating potential at an ultor output terminal. A flyback voltage produced in a winding of the transformer is rectified to produce an ultor accelerating potential representative DC voltage. A high voltage protection circuit comprises a comparator/amplifier stage that level shifts the ultor accelerating potential representative DC voltage and applies the level shifted voltage across a base-emitter junction of a first transistor. The first transistor is coupled to a second transistor to form a latch. When, as a result of excessive ultor accelerating potential, the latch becomes active, the generation of the ultor accelerating potential is disabled. The first and second transistors are interior to an integrated circuit; whereas, the comparator/amplifier stage is exterior to the integrated circuit.
Abstract: A boost capacitor has a first terminal that is coupled to a retrace capacitor of a horizontal deflection circuit. A diode couples a trace voltage in an S-shaping capacitor to the boost capacitor to charge the boost capacitor during trace. A second diode rectifies a voltage that is equal to the sum of the boost capacitor voltage and a retrace voltage developed in the retrace capacitor for generating a screen grid voltage for a cathode ray tube.
Abstract: A sonar transducer assembly is provided which is adapted to be mounted on the transom of a boat. The assembly includes a shaped transducer device comprising a housing having a base portion of substantially elliptical cross section and a nose of a flattened ellipsoidal shape. A connector stem having a faired leading edge connects the transducer housing to a mounting bracket assembly. The mounting bracket assembly includes a base member adapted to be connected to the transom and a pivotable member which supports the transducer device. A releasable connection between the members includes a pair of laterally spaced, outwardly extending projections on one member which engage ears formed on the other member. An elastomeric insert disposed between the arms controls the force necessary to cause release of the connection to provide "kick-up" when the transducer device strikes an object in the water.
Abstract: A beam tube atomic standard employing optical pumping for state preparation and magnetic state selection of atoms is disclosed. Atoms selected from the group consisting of the alkali metal family (Cesium, Rubidium, Potassium, Sodium and Lithium) are emitted from a source thereof to a state preparation region. A laser by optical pumping changes the state of atoms emitted by the source from a first energy state to a second energy state. A microwave cavity in which a magnetic field is induced receives atoms whose energy state has been changed to the second energy state by the laser, and due to resonance phenomenon changes the state of the atoms in the second energy state. A magnet receives in a gap thereof atoms from the cavity and deflects the received atoms having the changed energy state towards an atomic detector.
Abstract: A color television receiver includes a picture-in-picture processor and a variable filtering circuit for imparting a "slope type" filtering characteristic to the chrominance component of displayed signals when the main picture being displayed is from a tuner video source and for imparting a "hay-stack" type filtering characteristic to the chrominance component when the main picture picture being displayed is from an auxiliary video source thereby providing an effective reduction in the visibility of chrominance signal sideband amplitude errors when displaying picture-in-picture images from different types of sources.
Abstract: In a television receiver including a plurality of RF input terminals, each of which having a respective scan list, the channel numbers of respective scan lists are displayed in respective colors to indicate to the viewer which RF input terminal and associated scan list is selected. In one embodiment of the invention, the RF input terminals and the antenna selection keys of a user-operable keyboard are color-coded to correspond to the color-coded channel numbers.
Abstract: An ear insertable hearing aid having both a miniature microphone and a magnetic induction pickup which can be used simultaneously or alternately. The invention includes a core for the magnetic induction device that maximizes the surface area usable for sensing changes in magnetic flux but which is yet of a size that can act as a surrounding emplacement for the miniature microphone disposed between the plates of the substantially U-shaped core.
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for preparing electrically conductive traces on a circuit board using an additive technology. The traces are directly written in a serial process with each trace being able to be individually insulated. The apparatus includes an extrusion element for extruding a first material and a stage. The stage is for holding the extrusion element and the circuit board in relative proximity and for producing relative motion between the extrusion element and the circuit board in order to extrude the first material onto the surface of the circuit board along preselected paths to produce the electrically conductive traces. According to the method of invention, a first polymerizable material is extruded onto a circuit substrate support along preselected paths to form traces, and the first polymerizable material is polymerized, the first polymerizable material being conductive after polymerization.

Abstract: The present invention concerns a non-linear transfer function generator, e.g., for implementating "white stretch" of a luminance signal. Specifically, first and second emitter-follower amplifiers have their inputs coupled in parallel and their outputs coupled in series via first resistor of a voltage divider. A second resistor of the voltage divider is coupled to a point of reference potential. A bias source is coupled to the second amplifier, e.g., via the second resistor of the voltage divider, so that the dynamic response of the second amplifier to an input signal is limited with respect to the first amplifier. The output signal of the first amplifier is linear and an output signal developed at the output of the second amplifier is non-linear. The linear and non-linear output signals are combined by a current steering network in response to a control signal representative of a characteristic of a processed version of the luminance signal.
Abstract: A mobile cellular antenna system includes an auxiliary antenna that is positioned inside the passenger compartment of a vehicle and is coupled to the radiator on the exterior of the vehicle. This arrangement permits users of portable or transportable cellular telephones with built-in antennas to gain transmission and reception advantage from the exterior antenna while operating from within the passenger compartment.

The channel electron multiplier includes an insulating body having a curved passageway extending therethrough. A photoemissive element, and a secondary emissive dynode material is on the walls of the passageway. The passageway, together with a photoemission film of the photocathode assembly and the anode of the anode assembly define an evacuated closed region. Preferably, the electron multiplier is a monolithic ceramic body.
Abstract: A method of monitoring the sound within a car is disclosed. The occurrence of abnormality indicative of possible auto theft is reported to the driver who is remote from the car by means of the anti-theft system which transmits the occurrence of abnormality to a remote control unit and which turns on the power of the mobile telephone system, so as to make it ready for receiving external calls. The anti-theft system transmits to the driver the sound within the car collected by the microphone of the mobile telephone system, thereby making it possible for the driver at a remote place to ascertain the state of the car.
