    Abstract: Novel functionalized peroxides which may be used as crosslinking, grafting and curing agents, initiators for polymerization reactions and as monomers for condensation polymerizations to form peroxy-containing polymers, which in turn can be used to prepare block and graft copolymers, have the following Formula I: ##STR1## R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7, X, Y.sup.1, Y.sup.2, Y.sup.3, Z.sup.1, Z.sup.2, x, y and z are as defined in the Summary of the Invention. The compounds of Formula I may be prepared by reacting hydroxy-containing tertiary hydroperoxides with diacid halides, phosgene, dichloroformates, diisocyanates, anhydrides and lactones to form the functionalized peroxides. These reaction products may be further reacted, if desired, with dialcohols, diamines, aminoalcohols, epoxides, epoxy alcohols, epoxy amines, diacid halides, dichloroformates and diisocyanates to form additional functionalized peroxides.

    Abstract: The present invention comprises a curable composition comprising:(i) a blocked reactive component comprising a blocked isocyanate or a blocked isothiocyanate;(ii) a functional compound containing reactive hydrogen;(iii) a triorganotin catalyst for promoting the reaction of the blocked reactive component with the functional compound.The composition may also be admixed with water. The invention also relates to a method for curing a blocked isocyanate or blocked isothiocyanate at a temperature below about 150.degree. C. which comprises combining a triorganotin compound with the blocked reactive component and functional compound and heating at a temperature less than about 150.degree. C. to obtain a cured urethane or thiourethane.

Polymeric-peroxides are prepared via polymerizing the peroxyester compositions. The peroxyester compositions are also used for curing unsaturated polyester resins and for initiating polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers.

    Abstract: Process for synthesizing 1,1,1-trifluoroethane (143a) in the gaseous phase by reacting 1,1-defluoro-1-chloroethane in gaseous phase in the presence of a Cr catalyst. The process may be run isothermally or adiabatically, without co-feeding air or other oxygen containing gas, in the presence or absence of a Ni, Co, Zn or Mn cocatalyst for the Cr catalyst. The catalyst may be unsupported or supported with a support preferably selected from activated carbon, alumina and fluorided alumina. The formation of olefin byproduct can be kept to less than 10 ppm in accordance with the process of the invention.

Such polymers can then be added as a binder in a paint formulation to make marine antifouling coating compositions. Also described is a method to prevent fouling on surfaces wherein a composition containing a metal complex compound of formula (II): ##STR2## wherein M, x, L.sup.2, n, and R.sup.4 have the same meaning as in formula (I), is applied to the surface susceptible to fouling.

    Abstract: A continuous non-catalytic process for the manufacture of 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane/1-chloro-1,1-difluoroethane mixtures from 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane is provided. Hydrogen fluoride and 1,1,1-trichloroethane are continuously feed a molar ratio of from about 3.0 to about 5.2 to form a liquid phase hydrofluorination reaction mixture. Vapor phase reaction product is continuously withdrawn from the reaction zone, and hydrogen fluoride is continuously selectively refluxed back to the reaction mixture. 1,1,1-Trichloroethane utilization approaches 100% , with selectivity for 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane between 15% and 85%, based upon the amount of 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane and 1-chloro-1,1-difluoroethane contained in the gaseous reaction product.

    Abstract: Stripping action of an alkaline paint stripper is improved when ammonia is partially or completely replaced with ammonium bicarbonate or chemical equivalent thereof which decomposes into ammonia and carbon dioxide. A benzyl alcohol solvent system containing at least ammonium bicarbonate is preferably a water-in-oil emulsion emulsified with oleic hydroxyethyl imidazoline and thickened with hydroxypropyl cellulose or hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. A mixture of ammonium carbamate and ammonium bicarbonate identified as ammonium carbonate is the preferred activator for this alkaline paint stripper. Improved stripping can also be provided by reacting ammonium bicarbonate and ammonia in situ within the water-in-oil emulsion.
