Patent number: 4038297Abstract: High molecular weight carboxylic acids are provided. The mixed acid products of this invention typically contain a high percentage of aliphatic straight-chain monocarboxylic acids containing 22 or more carbon atoms. The monocarboxylic acids are obtained by the ozonization of high molecular weight .alpha.-olefins under controlled conditions. Using this ozonization process it is possible to obtain mixed acid products wherein the predominant acids contain 22 to 35 carbon atoms. An additional feature of this invention is the ability to obtain mixed acid products wherein acids having an odd number of carbon atoms are present in significantly larger amounts than acids having an even number of carbon atoms.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1975Date of Patent: July 26, 1977Assignee: Emery Industries, Inc.Inventors: Herbert G. Rodenberg, Charles E. Patton

Patent number: 4032549Abstract: This invention relates to reactive liquid polyamides derived from poly-basic acids and amine residues obtained as by-products from the process for the hydrogenation of adiponitrile to hexamethylenediamine. By use of these amine residues it is possible to obtain liquid polyamide products having low amine values and manageable viscosities. The liquid reactive polyamides are useful for a variety of applications, for example, they can be blended with thermoplastic polyamide resins to impart desirable properties thereto.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1976Date of Patent: June 28, 1977Assignee: Emery Industries, Inc.Inventors: Hubert J. Patent number: 3994844Abstract: Novel hindered zinc organic phosphites are produced by the reaction of zinc carboxylic acid salts and organic phosphites. The hindered zinc organic phosphites are excellent sources for zinc in vinyl halide resin stabilizers to prevent resin degradation by heat and light. Vinyl halide resin compositions containing the hindered zinc organic phosphites in relatively large amounts of divalent zinc can be processed under elevated temperatures over extended periods of time without undergoing catastrophic degradation. The hindered zinc organic phosphites are characterized by the formulas: ##EQU1## Where R' is either an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, or alkaryl radical with the proviso that at least one R' radical is aryl or alkaryl; and R" is aryl or alkaryl.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1975Date of Patent: November 30, 1976Assignee: Emery Industries, Inc.Inventors: Philip H. Patent number: 3972962Abstract: Improved chain-stopped polyester plasticizers for polyvinyl chloride homopolymers and copolymers are provided. The plasticizers show little or no tendency to migrate from PVC, yet they are readily processable with the PVC. While being extremely compatible with PVC the present plasticizers have very low affinity for ABS and polystyrene resins and therefore can be used in applications where plasticized PVC comes in contact with these other resins.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1975Date of Patent: August 3, 1976Assignee: Emery Industries, Inc.Inventors: Frederick R. Williams, Robert D. Aylesworth

Patent number: 3970569Abstract: Water soluble mixed ester lubricants derived from triglycerides are obtained by transesterifying a triglyceride with a low molecular weight polyoxyethylene glycol in the presence of short-chain mono- or dicarboxylic acids. The mixed ester compositions of this invention are readily water soluble and are excellent lubricants for metalworking operations. Water solubility is achieved with the present mixed ester products even though they have higher triglyceride contents than previously known ester lubricants.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1975Date of Patent: July 20, 1976Assignee: Emery Industries, Inc.Inventors: Robert J.
