  • Patent number: 9273596
Abstract: A secondary air injection system to aid in the warm-up of a catalyst employed as part of an emissions control system of a vehicle to obtain efficient reduction in engine emissions. A compressor utilized to compress or boost air for increased engine performance is additionally used as a secondary air injection source, eliminating the need for external air pumps. The compressor is configured to transmit boosted air to the engine of the vehicle or to the catalyst to aid in the warm-up of the catalyst. A valve having an open configuration and a closed configuration controls the passage of the boosted air to the engine or to the catalyst. The valve may be controlled by a controller based upon airflow, temperature, pressure, or time. A control map relating engine speed to airflow may be used for obtaining airflow values for controlling the configuration of the valve.

  • Patent number: 9274429
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for applying a photo-activated layered polymer coating to a substrate material in which one or more layers do not contain photoinitiator, or are not exposed to initiating light, but cure due to migration of cationic active centers. At least two separate monomer layers are applied to the substrate material. At least one of the monomer layers includes a photoinitiator capable of producing cationic active centers. The at least one layer including the photoinitiator is exposed to a source of UV radiation at a desired wavelength forming cationic active centers. The at least two separate monomer layers react in a polymerization reaction forming a cured layered material. The cationic active centers of the exposed monomer layer migrate to the unexposed layer such that both layers cure via the polymerization reaction.

  • Patent number: 9272242
Abstract: A high cyclic capacity carbon dioxide scrubbing process contacts a gas stream containing carbon dioxide in a sorption zone with a liquid scrubbing solution of a low molecular weight sterically hindered amine, particularly a secondary alkanolamine or aminoether at a high concentration, typically at least 3.5M and at a temperature of at least 30° C. to sorb the carbon dioxide into the solution and form a rich stream of the sorbed carbon dioxide in the solution in the form of dissolved amine carbamate and/or alkanolamine bicarbonate. The rich stream is then passed from the sorption zone to at least one regeneration zone and the sorbed carbon dioxide is desorbed as gas from the solution to form a lean solution containing a reduced concentration of sorbed carbon dioxide relative to the rich stream; the lean stream is then returned to the sorption zone for a further sorption cycle.

  • Patent number: 9276888
Abstract: A system and method to allow a user to engage in a collaborative discourse embedded in messaging platforms such as email or instant messaging, and to visualize the structure of that discourse. The system provides the ability to create and modify tree-like structures, which can represent outlines or tables of contents employed in documents. These structures take the place of traditional documents in representing the work product of a knowledge worker. These structures are related to the discourse in that messages may refer to nodes of these structures, and hence be understood to be related. It is the interplay between the creation of a structured message-based discourse and the persistent outline-form knowledge structures that allows message-based correspondence, including the reading and writing of documents, to be performed with increased efficiency and at a higher level of integration.

  • Patent number: 9274217
Abstract: A microwave sensor is disclosed. The microwave sensor includes an active antenna module, a first low pass filter, a second demodulator, a modulation module, and a discrimination control module. The active antenna module is utilized for transmitting a first FMCW signal towards a target and receiving a second FMCW signal reflected back from the target according to a sweep period. The active antenna module includes a loop antenna and a radio frequency transistor. The first low pass filter and the radio frequency transistor form a first demodulator. The first demodulator and the second demodulator perform two-stage down converting and demodulating to extract information for calculating range and velocity, respectively. The present invention adjusts a radio frequency bandwidth of the FMCW signal by first adjusting an amplitude of a modulation signal generated by the modulation module to control various detection ranges.
