  • Patent number: 9189575
Abstract: The method comprises the steps of inputting a first set of data into both a physical system and into an SVR model. The method includes collecting a second set of system data from the physical system and stacking a plurality of SVR models to form an output prediction without feeding back the model output. Another aspect of the invention includes a method of hybrid modeling having delayed output measurement. This method includes the steps of inputting a first set of data into both a physical system and into an SVR model and collecting a second set of system data from the physical system. A modeling error is injected into both the second set of system data from the physical system and a third set of system data from the SVR model wherein the modeling error thereby leads to substantially improved model output.

  • Patent number: 9190881
Abstract: Counterpart discs with respective sets of permanent magnets disposed at their periphery are rotated through an alternating sequence of repulsive and attractive positions to yield a repeating cycle of attractive and repulsive forces. At least one of the discs is freed to travel along the axis of relative rotation in response to the cyclical attractive/repulsive forces, thereby producing mechanical oscillation at a frequency determined by the number of magnetic positions in the two discs and the relative rotational speed of the discs.

  • Patent number: 9186626
Abstract: Methods are provided for removing CO2 and/or H2S from a gas phase stream, such as a refinery flue gas stream, a coal-fired or petroleum-burning power plant, or a natural gas stream. A gas phase stream containing CO2 and/or H2S can be contacted under effective conditions with an aqueous slurry of supported amine particles. The CO2 and/or H2S can react with the supported amines to form bicarbonates, carbonates, carbamates, sulfide salts, or other species. Because the amine is part of, bonded to, or otherwise supported on a particulate substrate, the reaction product from the amine reaction can also remain bound to the particle. After reacting supported amines with CO2 and/or H2S captured from a gas stream, the supported amines particles can be separated from the aqueous slurry environment for regeneration of the supported amine and release of the CO2 and/or H2S.

  • Patent number: 9188714
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus to control a focal length of a curved reflector in real time. An energy generation system includes curved reflectors, a tower, and an energy storing unit connected to the tower. The curved reflectors reflect and concentrate light from a light source onto the tower. The tower converts the received light into usable energy which is stored in the energy storing unit. Each of the curved reflectors can include a curved body, a stand, and/or an actuation unit. The curved body reflects the light from the light source to concentrate it onto the tower. When the light source moves, the curved body pivots about the stand to track the light source. The actuation unit is activated to adjust a focal length of the focal point of the curved body to ensure that the reflected light is concentrated at the tower.

  • Patent number: 9189451
Abstract: A network device determines an exposure time associated with an image sensor coupled to a spacecraft for capturing an image of a target object orbiting the Earth. The network device computes a maximum relative angular velocity associated with the target object based on the exposure time and a dimension of a pixel of the image sensor. The network device identifies a first pointing direction of the image sensor for initiating a search for the target object. The network device generates a first angular velocity probability distribution map for the target object and divides the first angular velocity probability distribution map into a first set of angular velocity regions (AVRs). The network device selects a first AVR from the first set of AVRs for scanning by the image sensor and generates a search schedule that includes a first entry for informing the spacecraft to scan the first AVR.
