Patent number: 9845969Abstract: An exhaust air shutter assembly may include a housing having a dividing wall separating the exhaust air shutter assembly into an inside portion and an outside portion. An opening may be formed in the dividing wall and a frame may be mounted around the perimeter of the hole. Disposed on the frame may be a gasket that extends around the entire perimeter of the hole. The exhaust air shutter also may include at least one shutter flap mounted adjacent to the frame with a hinge such that the shutter flap can pivot between a closed position and an open position. When the shutter flap is in the open position, an air flow path exists from the inside portion of the exhaust air shutter assembly to the outside portion. When the shutter flap is in the closed position the air flow path is blocked. The shutter flap is configured to contact the gasket mounted to the frame when the shutter flap is in the closed position, thereby creating a seal between the shutter flap and the opening in the dividing wall.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2013Date of Patent: December 19, 2017Assignee: Petra Engineering Industries Co.Inventor: Osama Mohammad Hussein Ali

Patent number: 9845334Abstract: A new family of neutron/gamma discriminating scintillators is disclosed that comprises stable organic glasses that may be melt-cast into transparent monoliths. These materials have been shown to provide light yields greater than solution-grown trans-stilbene crystals and efficient PSD capabilities when combined with 0.01 to 0.05% by weight of the total composition of a wavelength-shifting fluorophore. Photoluminescence measurements reveal fluorescence quantum yields that are 2 to 5 times greater than conventional plastic or liquid scintillator matrices, which accounts for the superior light yield of these glasses. The unique combination of high scintillation light-yields, efficient neutron/gamma PSD, and straightforward scale-up via melt-casting distinguishes the developed organic glasses from existing scintillators.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2016Date of Patent: December 19, 2017Assignee: National Technology & Engineering Solutions of Sandia, LLCInventors: Patrick L. Publication number: 20170356965Abstract: Phase selection for traveling wave fault detection systems is disclosed herein. Intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) may be used to monitor and protect electric power delivery systems by detecting and acting upon traveling waves. A phase of the electric power delivery system may be selected based on the relative polarity of the traveling waves detected. The amplitude and/or polarity of the selected phase may be compared with the amplitudes and/or polarities of the other phases to determine a fault condition. For instance, the IED may determine a single-phase-to-ground fault based on the relative polarities and magnitudes of the detected traveling waves, send a protective action to the identified faulted phase, and/or continue to monitor the system for a continuation of the event or identification of a different event, such as a three-phase fault, using incremental quantities.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 13, 2017Publication date: December 14, 2017Applicant: Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Armando Guzman-Casillas, Bogdan Z. Publication number: 20170355337Abstract: A microcontroller uses a combination of several synchronized PWM outputs to generate a low distortion sine wave by summing the PWM outputs and filtering the summed signal. The sine wave is used as a guard voltage. The unknown impedance is measured by impinging the guard voltage on the sense electrode by a transistor connected in common base configuration and then transferring the sense current through the common base connected transistor to a transimpedance amplifier made out of a second transistor connected in common emitter configuration. The output voltage at the collector of the second transistor is measured by an ADC input of the microcontroller. The microcontroller translates the ADC output values into the unknown impedance to be measured by doing a software demodulation of the ADC output values. A reference impedance can be connected in parallel to the unknown impeder to eliminate gain errors of the signal sensing circuit.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 22, 2015Publication date: December 14, 2017Applicant: IEE INTERNATIONAL ELECTRONICS & ENGINEERING S.A.Inventor: Laurent LAMESCH
