  • Patent number: 8861363
Abstract: In a method for adjusting the modulation of information onto subcarriers transmitted on a network, a first modulation profile of a network node on the network is set a first density. A plurality of messages in support of a link maintenance operation (LMO) on the network are monitored. The first modulation profile of the network node is updated to a second modulation profile having a second density. The updating is based on the monitored messages. Interference is detected by determining that a link between the first network node and a second network node on the network is not conveying a predetermined class of messages correctly. The first network node is set to a third modulation profile more robust than the first and second modulation profiles in response to the detected interference. The third modulation profile is common to each network node on the network.

  • Patent number: 8861357
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for communicating unicast PQoS DFID information in a MoCA network are disclosed. In a transmitting apparatus, values are assigned in a first set of fields of a reservation request element, the first set adapted to indicate a unicast PQoS flow with a DFID value. Values are assigned in a second set of fields of the reservation request element, the second set adapted to represent the DFID value. A message comprising the reservation request element is transmitted to a network coordinator. In a receiving network coordinator, a message comprising a reservation request element is received, the reservation request element comprising a first set of fields and a second set of fields. It is determined whether the first set is indicative of a unicast PQoS flow with a DFID value. The DFID value is determined from the second set if the first set is indicative of a unicast PQoS flow with a DFID value.

  • Patent number: 8849969
Abstract: A method is disclosed for optimizing a network that is formed from a plurality of nodes. The NC node of the network compiles an order that the plurality of nodes perform a probing operation. The order is typically round robin. The NC node receives a request from a client that identifies a next node to perform the probing operation. Based on the request, the NC node changes the order so that the next node performs the probing operation after the current node that is performing the probing operation has completed the operation.

  • Patent number: 8842219
Abstract: Content comprising a sequence of original frames at a first frame rate is up-converted to a second, higher, frame rate. Intermediate frames are calculated for temporal positions spaced between temporal positions of the original frames. An output sequence at the second frame rate comprises a repeating pattern of frames and, within each repetition of the pattern, there is: at least one original frame; at least one intermediate frame which is repeated; and at least one frame which is not repeated. The method is suitable for applications where an up-conversion factor is required in the frame rate, such as an up-conversion factor of five to up-convert from the 24 Hz frame rate used for film-based content to the 120 Hz frame rate used by displays. The output sequence can use all of the original frames to reduce detail flicker.

  • Patent number: 8842742
Abstract: A method of generating presentation time stamps, PTSs, for motion-compensated frame-rate conversion of a sequence of frames. In one aspect, the method comprises for each new frame: determining an average difference between the capture time-stamps of recent consecutive new frames; and generating the PTS based on the capture time-stamp of a previous new frame and the average difference. In another aspect, the method comprises detecting a first cadence and a second different cadence in the sequence of frames; and generating a PTS for each new frame defined by the first cadence, such that in each case the difference between the PTSs of consecutive new frames is intermediate between the true interval between those frames according to the first cadence and the true interval between them according to the second cadence.

  • Patent number: 8824568
Abstract: For use as or in connection with a set-top box, a digital TV broadcast signal is decoded by processing its audio stream into and read from a FIFO buffer. According to certain embodiments, fullness of the FIFO buffer is compared to a reference fullness, which can be updated based on changes to the bit rate of the audio stream. In response to the FIFO buffer fullness, the set top box regulates the rate at which the audio stream is decoded. The disclosed decoding methods do not need to rely on the accuracy or presence of a system time encoded into the broadcast signal.

  • Patent number: 8811411
Abstract: A method and apparatus for receiving packets from a node within a first network in accordance with a first protocol. A descriptor associated with each received packet is read by a direct memory access (DMA) controller that stores the received packet. A value for a controllable parameter is selected to efficiently communicate the content of the received packet over a second network that operates in accordance with a second protocol. The information in the received packet is then organized into newly formed packets, the size of which makes them efficient for communication over the network in the second protocol. The newly formed packets are stored in a transmit line buffer and associated with a Protocol Descriptor. The Protocol Descriptor provides information to a transmit controller to allow the transmit controller to select and aggregate packets from the transmit line buffer in order to make efficient use of the second protocol.

  • Patent number: 8804044
Abstract: An apparatus to provide a fall-back procedure for a PRC imaging device is described. The apparatus includes a PRC controller, a system resource monitor, and a PRC setting calculator. The PRC controller outputs a stream of images at an adjustable temporal rate. The adjustable temporal rate is constrained within a range defined by a first predetermined rate and a second predetermined rate. The system resource monitor obtains a measurement of system resource utilization. The PRC setting calculator determines a setting for the PRC controller in response to the measurement of system resource utilization. Additionally, the PRC controller determines a value for the adjustable temporal rate in response to the setting.

  • Patent number: 8798135
Abstract: A compressed data stream modifier 270 is disclosed. The stream modifier modifies an input data stream that may comprise audio and video data streams conforming to any one of the well-known video compression standards, for example, MPEG or AVC. The input stream is first de-multiplexed to obtain a single video elementary stream. The video elementary stream is then decoded by means of a variable-length decoder and provided to the data stream modifier. A decoding complexity of each frame is estimated by an estimator 210 and provided to a controller 250. The controller selects a number of regions from each frame based on some psycho-visual criteria, such that a method of modification of these regions can bring the decoding complexity within an available capacity at a decoder. An efficient means of adapting a decoding complexity to an available capacity is thus obtained.
