Abstract: A system is described that consists of a variable modulation unicast system that utilizes multiple modulation schemes in a cable network for unicast applications and is capable of assigning users to different channels of differing modulation schemes in the network based on a feedback signal received in response to a transmitted probe signal. The system may also, in response to the feedback signal from a remote device in the network, assign a channel from a plurality of channels having differing carrier frequencies and modulation schemes to the remote device and may also modify the carrier frequencies of the channels.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for receiving packets from a node within a first network in accordance with a first protocol. A descriptor associated with each received packet is read by a direct memory access (DMA) controller that stores the received packet. A value for a controllable parameter is selected to efficiently communicate the content of the received packet over a second network that operates in accordance with a second protocol. The information in the received packet is then organized into newly formed packets, the size of which makes them efficient for communication over the network in the second protocol. The newly formed packets are stored in a transmit line buffer and associated with a Protocol Descriptor. The Protocol Descriptor provides information to a transmit controller to allow the transmit controller to select and aggregate packets from the transmit line buffer in order to make efficient use of the second protocol.
Abstract: An apparatus to provide a fall-back procedure for a PRC imaging device is described. The apparatus includes a PRC controller, a system resource monitor, and a PRC setting calculator. The PRC controller outputs a stream of images at an adjustable temporal rate. The adjustable temporal rate is constrained within a range defined by a first predetermined rate and a second predetermined rate. The system resource monitor obtains a measurement of system resource utilization. The PRC setting calculator determines a setting for the PRC controller in response to the measurement of system resource utilization. Additionally, the PRC controller determines a value for the adjustable temporal rate in response to the setting.
Abstract: A compressed data stream modifier 270 is disclosed. The stream modifier modifies an input data stream that may comprise audio and video data streams conforming to any one of the well-known video compression standards, for example, MPEG or AVC. The input stream is first de-multiplexed to obtain a single video elementary stream. The video elementary stream is then decoded by means of a variable-length decoder and provided to the data stream modifier. A decoding complexity of each frame is estimated by an estimator 210 and provided to a controller 250. The controller selects a number of regions from each frame based on some psycho-visual criteria, such that a method of modification of these regions can bring the decoding complexity within an available capacity at a decoder. An efficient means of adapting a decoding complexity to an available capacity is thus obtained.
Abstract: An apparatus configured to match an input frame rate of a video stream with an output frame rate of an output stream, the apparatus comprising, at least one memory buffer, an output frame generator, and a threshold measurement unit, the threshold measurement unit configured to generate a control feedback, wherein the box is configured to analyze the control feedback to monitor a state of the at least one memory buffer, the threshold measurement unit further configured analyze the control feedback to regulate between two or more different settings, wherein the two or more different settings include slowing down or speeding up the output frame, wherein the two or more different settings further include slowing down or speeding up of the line rate of the output stream.
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for providing a throughput of 10 Gbps or more in a coaxial cable network and which operate at high frequencies above the existing services on home coax in the range 2 GHz to 10 GHz, or more. The network uses a wide signal bandwidth, in the range, for example, of 8 GHz. Operating above the CATV band and satellite services, the network coexists with these services without mutual interference. The system could be used in networking systems, such as MoCA 3 and Access systems. This is achieved by using a splitter with a low loss and low isolation in the 2-10 GHz range at the point-of entry (POE) of the network signal. Alternatively, an active node to provide a signal booster or a repeater function at the point-of-entry (POE) can be used.
Abstract: A particular overall architecture for transmission over a bonded channel system consisting of two interconnected MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) 2.0 SoCs (Systems on a Chip) and a method and apparatus for the case of a “bonded” channel network. With a bonded channel network, the data is divided into two segments, the first of which is transported over a primary channel and the second of which is transported over a secondary channel.

Abstract: A communication system is disclosed that allows high data-rate transmission of data between components. N-bit parallel data is transmitted in K-frequency separated channels on the transmission medium so as to fully take advantage of the overall bandwidth of the transmission medium. As a result, a very high data-rate transmission can be accomplished with low data-bit transmission on individual channels. A transmitter system and a receiver system are described for the communication system.

Abstract: A method for generating a signal with a random low peak to average power ratio waveform for an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system involves processing a complex vector to generate a processed complex vector and performing an inverse fast Fourier transform on the processed complex vector to generate a signal with a random low peak to average power ratio waveform for an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system.
Abstract: The invention relates to a device and a method for determining a symbol during reception of a signal coupled with a quadrature signal pair having a discriminator for the determination of a symbol with an analysis of a received signal in complex coordinate space, and a control loop for QAM frequency control and/or rotation control while control parameters are used, which are constructed and/or controlled depending on at least one of the symbols to be decided by the discriminator so that the control parameters are adjusted for decisions to be taken later, wherein one weighting device is constructed and/or controlled, providing in each case one weighting value for the symbols to be decided and/or decided by the discriminator among a plurality of weighting values depending on the symbol position in the complex coordinate space for the control loop.
Abstract: A method of processing video signals containing multiple images. The method comprises dividing a first image into regions and associating a first plurality of regions of the first image with a first image layer and a second plurality of regions of the first image with a second image layer. Motion estimation is performed on pixel values that are derived from pixel values associated with the first image layer, substantially in isolation from pixel values associated with the second image layer, to generate a first motion vector field, and the first motion vector field is used to perform motion-compensated processing on pixel values that are derived from pixel values associated with the first image layer. The result of the motion-compensated processing is combined with pixel values that are derived from pixel values associated with the second image layer to generate an output image.
Abstract: A method of reducing resource overhead attributed to preambles in a communication system includes transmitting, at a transmitter, one or more signals including a first packet. The first packet is transmitted in a first time-frequency grant including a first set of one or more subcarriers. The first packet includes a full preamble including reference signal information for determining a total channel estimate for every subcarrier to be used in transmission of the first packet. A second packet is transmitted in a second time-frequency grant including a second set of one or more subcarriers without a full preamble when a receiver configured to communicate with the transmitter can determine a phase offset between the transmitter and the receiver from the signals received at the receiver.
Abstract: A technique for decoding an encoded bitstream of digital video content involves decoding a bitstream, wherein decoding the bitstream generates decoded syntax elements and decoded pixel information, creating an access point in the currently decoded bitstream by saving state information related to the decoding, saving the decoded syntax elements, and saving the decoded pixel information, and synchronizing a subsequent decoding operation to the access point utilizing the saved state information, the saved decoded syntax elements, and the saved decoded pixel information.

Abstract: When one node has information to transmit to a group of nodes using a parameterized quality of service (PQoS) transmission, a broadcast flow is created rather than creating a multicast flow, which is not available. While the flow is created as a broadcast flow, if the flow is to be directed to less than all of the nodes on the network, then the flow will be considered a Multicast PQoS flow. The broadcast flow is created using a process that is known as a “PQoS Create Flow” transaction.
Abstract: A system and method for node admission in a communication network having a NC and a plurality of associated network nodes. According to various embodiments of the disclosed method and apparatus, key determination in a communication network includes an NN sending to the NC a request for a SALT; the NN receiving the SALT from the NC, combining the SALT with its network password to calculate a static key, and submitting an admission request to the network coordinator to request a dynamic key. The SALT can be a random number generated by the NC, and the admission request can be encrypted by the NN using the static key.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a circuit system for deciding a symbol (S) upon reception of received symbols coupled with a quadrature signal pair (I, Q). For deciding a symbol upon reception of an input signal using received symbols (S) coupled with a quadrature signal pair, wherein phase noise (PN) and Gaussian noise (GN) are superimposed on at least one such received symbol, the phase noise (PN) as well as the Gaussian noise (GN) are determined or estimated for at least one such received symbol (S). This is advantageously achieved by the fact that when the phase noise (PN) and the Gaussian noise (GN) are determined or estimated, a differentiation is made between the phase noise (PN) and the Gaussian noise, and a result of the differentiating determination or estimation is used for controlling reception parameters for decisions concerning subsequently received symbols (S). In particular, the measured values of the phase noise (PN) are orthogonalized to the Gaussian noise (GN).
Abstract: A node for transmitting digital data over a network receives a plurality of packet data units and identifies at least two of the packet data units that have the same aggregation identifier. The node then forms an aggregate packet from the packet data units that have the same aggregation identifier and transmits the aggregate packet to a common destination node or nodes.
