Patent number: 8902992Abstract: A decoder (100) is disclosed, which selectively reconstructs at least one predetermined data unit out of a coded bit stream (c). The decoder (100) includes a parsing unit (120) to search and parse unambiguous information (up) characterizing the at least one predetermined data unit uniquely. Next, the parsing unit (120) provides this parsed information (up) either directly to a decoding unit (130) or to a look-up table (140) such that the decoding unit (130) could reconstruct the predetermined data unit directly out of the coded bit stream (c) based on the parsed information (up) without decoding and reconstructing the coded bit stream (c) completely. Optionally, a specification unit (110) provides an start position (us) of the coded bit stream (c) to the parsing unit (120) used for starting the search. Therewith, data traffic, computation time and memory resources could be saved for decoding and displaying e.g. compressed JPEG pictures.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2008Date of Patent: December 2, 2014Assignee: Entropic Communications, Inc.Inventor: Detlef Goetting

Patent number: 8902360Abstract: A method for detecting a video signal that represents an image sequence and exhibits linewise repeated video data comprises selecting a plurality of line groups each having a first, a second and a third line, which originate from two consecutive fields in the case of a field sequence and from one field in the case of a frame sequence. The method determines for each line group a first line-distance measure for a difference between video contents of the first and second lines and a second line-distance measure for a difference between video contents of the second and third lines. The method then interprets the first and second line-distance measures with regard to the presence of a significant difference between these line-distance measures.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2008Date of Patent: December 2, 2014Assignee: Entropic Communications, Inc.Inventors: Marko Hahn, Christian Tuschen, Günter Scheffler, Markus Schu

Patent number: 8892026Abstract: An outdoor satellite receiving unit (ODU) receives several independent satellite signals, selects two signals with a switch matrix, downconverts the two signals to a bandstacked signal with a high and a low band signal, and outputs the bandstacked signal on the same cable to receiver units. Several satellite signals can be selected in groups of two or more and output to independent receiver units. Signal selecting is performed at the received radio frequency (RF) and bandstacking is performed with a single downconversion step to an intermediate frequency (IF). Channel stacking on the same cable of more than two channels from several satellites can be achieved by using frequency agile downconverters and bandpass filters prior to combining at the IF output. A slow transitioning switch minimizes signal disturbances when switching and maintains input impedance at a constant value.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2011Date of Patent: November 18, 2014Assignee: Entropic Communications, Inc.Inventors: Branislav Petrovic, Dale Hancock, Jeremy Goldblatt, Keith Bargroff

Patent number: 8884685Abstract: Integrated circuit designs and methods using adaptive dynamic voltage scaling circuits for IC designs that compensate for some of the effects of PVT dependent characteristics on the fabrication of advanced IC's but allow lower margins and provide high die yields, smaller die size, and lower power usage. An inner control loop varies the voltage output of an internal variable voltage regulator powered by an IC circuit voltage, and monitors the operation of a test circuit until it reaches a cross-over point (i.e., either fails to operate or begins to operate) with respect to an essentially identical nearby reference circuit, at which point the IC circuit voltage is adjusted by an outer control circuit to that voltage output level plus a margin.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2013Date of Patent: November 11, 2014Assignee: Entropic Communications, Inc.Inventor: Branislav Petrovic

Patent number: 8861363Abstract: In a method for adjusting the modulation of information onto subcarriers transmitted on a network, a first modulation profile of a network node on the network is set a first density. A plurality of messages in support of a link maintenance operation (LMO) on the network are monitored. The first modulation profile of the network node is updated to a second modulation profile having a second density. The updating is based on the monitored messages. Interference is detected by determining that a link between the first network node and a second network node on the network is not conveying a predetermined class of messages correctly. The first network node is set to a third modulation profile more robust than the first and second modulation profiles in response to the detected interference. The third modulation profile is common to each network node on the network.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2010Date of Patent: October 14, 2014Assignee: Entropic Communications, Inc.Inventors: Ray Steinberger, Saga Jogadhenu

Patent number: 8849969Abstract: A method is disclosed for optimizing a network that is formed from a plurality of nodes. The NC node of the network compiles an order that the plurality of nodes perform a probing operation. The order is typically round robin. The NC node receives a request from a client that identifies a next node to perform the probing operation. Based on the request, the NC node changes the order so that the next node performs the probing operation after the current node that is performing the probing operation has completed the operation.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2008Date of Patent: September 30, 2014Assignee: Entropic Communications, Inc.Inventors: Ronald Lee, Ken Chu, Robert Lawrence Hare, Jr., Glenn Delucio, Zong Liang Wu

Patent number: 8842219Abstract: Content comprising a sequence of original frames at a first frame rate is up-converted to a second, higher, frame rate. Intermediate frames are calculated for temporal positions spaced between temporal positions of the original frames. An output sequence at the second frame rate comprises a repeating pattern of frames and, within each repetition of the pattern, there is: at least one original frame; at least one intermediate frame which is repeated; and at least one frame which is not repeated. The method is suitable for applications where an up-conversion factor is required in the frame rate, such as an up-conversion factor of five to up-convert from the 24 Hz frame rate used for film-based content to the 120 Hz frame rate used by displays. The output sequence can use all of the original frames to reduce detail flicker.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2009Date of Patent: September 23, 2014Assignee: Entropic Communications, Inc.Inventors: Rogier Wester, Patrick Meijers

Patent number: 8824568Abstract: For use as or in connection with a set-top box, a digital TV broadcast signal is decoded by processing its audio stream into and read from a FIFO buffer. According to certain embodiments, fullness of the FIFO buffer is compared to a reference fullness, which can be updated based on changes to the bit rate of the audio stream. In response to the FIFO buffer fullness, the set top box regulates the rate at which the audio stream is decoded. The disclosed decoding methods do not need to rely on the accuracy or presence of a system time encoded into the broadcast signal.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2009Date of Patent: September 2, 2014Assignee: Entropic Communications, Inc.Inventor: Pierre Roger Bernard Le Pifre
