Abstract: Various embodiments implement apparatuses and methods for conversion of radio frequency (RF) signals to intermediate frequency (IF) signals. More particularly, some embodiments are directed toward down conversion of RF signals to IF signals in a multi-band radio receiver, such as a satellite receiver, using a single oscillator for different frequency bands. For example, some of the apparatuses and methods presented are suitable for integration into monolithic RF integrated circuits in low-cost satellite receivers for home entertainment use.

Abstract: Multiple channels of received data are processed by a multiple channel demodulation and error correction decoding engine. The statistical uncertainty of processing channels with an iterative decoder are averaged across all the channels to reduce the total processing power required of the decoding engine compared to processing each channel with a separate engine. A set of input buffers holds blocks of data for each channel needing decoding. A quality measure is computed on each input block to set the priority and iteration allocation of decoding in the common decoder. The input RF signal is digitized by a broadband tuner that processes some or all of the channels to feed the multiple channel demodulator and decoder. Multiple decoded video data streams are output.

Abstract: In a communication network, a sending node transmits a message with a multi-segment preamble and data to a receiving node. The receiving node calculates characteristics of the sending unit, channel, or transmitted signal by processing preamble segments. Once an unknown characteristic is determined, a segment of the preamble can be eliminated or reduced in length for subsequent messages, which increases efficiency of the message transmissions.
Abstract: A particular overall architecture for transmission over a bonded channel system consisting of two interconnected MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) 2.0 SoCs (“Systems on a Chip) and a method and apparatus for the case of a “bonded” channel network. With a bonded channel network, the data is divided into two segments, the first of which is transported over a primary channel and the second of which is transported over a secondary channel.

Abstract: An LDPC decoder, applicable to LDPC codes including codes where check nodes within the same group are connected to a common bit node, successively processes groups of check nodes in a particular iteration, including updating bit nodes in that same iteration responsive to messages generated in response to processing a group of check nodes. Within an iteration, the LDPC decoder may also track the number of unresolved parity check equations, and cease iterating or output to an outer block decoder if that number reaches a local minima or standard minimum, falls below a predetermined threshold, or its rate of change falls below a predetermined threshold, indicating a lack of convergence or false convergence condition. The LDPC decoder may also provide a feedback assist to a demodulator. Also, a novel memory configuration may store messages generated by the decoder in the course of check node processing.

Abstract: The invention relates to a video circuit (1) for processing video signals which show images on a display panel with linear light transition, comprising a gamma correction circuit (3), a quantizer (11) and a sub-field generator circuit (8). To save computing time, a random-access memory (7) replaces the quantizer (64).
Abstract: Image data is processed to produce an output using a frame insertion approach. According to an example embodiment, frames are generated for video data, based upon the video data and the presence (or absence) of artifacts in the video data. In one application, a dynamic frame insertion approach is used to selectively generate peaked and blurred video frames in a manner that mitigates undesirable display and/or enhancement of artifacts by tuning down or turning off the generation and/or insertion of video frames.

Abstract: The present invention is related to line based vertical motion estimation and vertical motion compensation in consecutive frames of a motion picture, wherein the picture is divided in at least one region, and wherein: in a first summation luminance values for each line of the at least one region of a previous frame are summed, wherein the first summation of luminance values results in a previous accumulation profile; in a second summation of luminance values of for each line of the at least one region of a current frame are summed, wherein said second summation of luminance values results in a current accumulation profile; and wherein a vertical motion vector is derived by use of the previous accumulation profile and of the current accumulation profile.
Abstract: A method and system for frame insertion in a digital display system is provided. The method is adapted for use with a liquid crystal display (LCD) type display and is effective to substantially reduce motion blur. The LCD display receives a sequence of digitized input frames at a first frequency. The method generates a sequence of output frames that include the digitized input frames interspersed with a plurality of modified frames. Each of the modified frames is substantially similar to a preceding digitized input frame, but has a reduced luminance. The modified frames may be generated by multiplying a preceding digitized input frame by a reduced luminance factor. The reduced luminance factor may be determined as a fixed value or as a function of an average pixel level of a preceding frame.

Abstract: A method of encrypting a digital file composed of a sequence of bytes, each byte defined by a relative position within the digital file and a value, the method comprising: using an encryption key to encode the relative position separately from the value of each byte; and producing an encrypted digital file in which the correlation between relative position and value of each byte in the original digital file is concealed in the encrypted digital file.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a video decoder (DEC) for decoding a bit stream (BS) corresponding to pictures (P) of a video signal, coded pictures being likely to include macroblocks coded in a progressive and in an interlaced way, said decoder including a decoding unit (DEU) for decoding macroblocks coded in a progressive way. A video decoder according to the invention includes a decoding configuration unit (DCU) for activating said decoding unit several times for decoding a single picture and for configuring the read and/or write stride at each pass of said picture in said decoding unit.
Abstract: Low complexity method directly decode low-resolution frames from compressed high-resolution videos that were encoded using predictive coding techniques like the H.264 video coding standard. The smaller the decoding resolution, the higher will be the computation and power savings of using the method. Low-frequency coefficients of 2D transformed predictions are added to the low-frequency coefficients of the transformed residual error. Low-frequency coefficients of the reconstructed data are then inverse transformed taking a smaller size transform. Further savings are obtained by reconstructing only those reference pixels that will be needed for accurate decoding of further Intra blocks.
