Abstract: Monetizing on-line communications includes: assigning a price to become a buddy of a publisher in an on-line chat board; advertising the price to prospective subscribers of the publisher; receiving a bid from a prospective subscriber; and transmitting the bid offer to the publisher such that the publisher can accept or decline the bid offer.

Abstract: A method and system for generating a topic page for a search query on a search webpage includes receiving a query at the search webpage on a client. The query is transmitted from the search webpage on the client to a search engine on a server. A topic page generator available to the search engine analyzes the query to identify a plurality of dimensions. One or more content modules that match one or more of the dimensions are selected from a plurality of sources based on a weight associated with each of the content modules. The weight defines the ranking of a content module. The content modules for the plurality of dimensions are glued together and presented on the topic page in the order of the corresponding weight of the content modules. The order of presentation identifies the relevancy of the content modules to the query. The presented topic page provides the most relevant content modules for the query, and for a user located in a specific geo location.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing relevant search result and query terms are disclosed herein. Natural language processing of the documents and previous search session history are used to dynamically determine document relevance, queries relevant to search categories prior to start of a search session, and query to query correlations.

Abstract: Software receives a communication from a smart-television device. The communication includes a device identifier for the smart-television device and a geo-location for the smart-television device. The geo-location results from collaborative location detection that uses stored geo-positions previously received from one or more mobile devices positioned proximate to the smart-television device. The software causes the smart-television device to display a first view that includes a visual icon and a message identifying a connected-television service. The software receives a geo-position for a mobile device. Upon determining that the geo-location of the smart-television device is proximate to the geo-position of the mobile device, the software causes the mobile device to display a second view that includes the visual icon. The software receives a communication from the mobile device that indicates a match between the visual icon in the first view and the visual icon in the second view and connects the devices.

Abstract: Personalized content is generated from different media items using a content index. The content index is generated or updated by identifying segments of media items that are of particular interest to users. User interactions with the media items are analyzed and metadata of segments of media items that are determined to be of particular interest to the users is recorded. The parameters associated with a request for personalized content for a user are matched with the recorded metadata to identify relevant media items or segments of media items which are transmitted to the user as the personalized content.

Abstract: The present description is directed towards systems and methods for directing a user request for content over a network to a given content server on the basis of one or more rules. Methods and systems implemented in accordance with the present description comprise receiving a request for content form a user, the request for content including a profile of the user identifying one or more characteristics associated with the user. One or more rules are retrieved for identifying a content server to which a request for content is to be delivered, the one or more rules including at least one of business rules, network rules, and user profile rules. The one or more retrieved rules are applied to the request for content to identify a content server to which the request for content is to be delivered and the request for content is delivered to the identified content server.

Abstract: A system for providing mobile advertisement actions may include a memory to store a request, mobile carrier data, mobile advertisement data, and mobile advertisement action data. The system may include an interface operatively connected to the memory to communicate with a mobile device. The system may include a processor operatively connected to the memory and the interface. The processor may receive information and a request from the mobile device via the interface and may determine the mobile carrier data relating to a mobile carrier associated with the mobile device. The processor may identify the mobile advertisement data and the mobile advertisement action targeted to the request and the mobile carrier data. The processor may append the mobile advertisement action data to the mobile advertisement data. The processor may provide the mobile advertisement data with the appended mobile advertisement action data to the mobile device via the interface.

Abstract: Users receive content recommendations from a personalized, generalized recommendation service that aggregates and selects content of high personal relevance to each individual user from a large pool of both personal and public content. The received content is filtered and the content determined to be relevant is cached. When a user request for content is received, the cached content is rescored and the content determined to be most relevant based on satisfaction of a relevance threshold is selected and forwarded to the user. Feedback methodologies are also implemented so that a user's actions are taken into consideration in real time and can affect subsequent recommendations to the user.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for facilitating the formulation of queries by providing quick-picks to the user based, at least in part, on the context in which the query is being formulated. Quick-picks are items that, when selected, add search criteria items to a query that is being formed. The quick picks that are presented to the user are selected based on the context in which the search is being performed. For example, a user may be presented with (a) a search box for entering keywords for a search, and (b) selectable words extracted from or otherwise related to the content currently being displayed on the device that is being used to formulate the search query. When the user selects one of the selectable words, the selected word is inserted into the search box, thereby obviating the need to separately enter each character of the word.

Abstract: A revenue share analysis module can determine individual session revenues for content items provided by content providers. The module can also determine total session content revenues for each of the content items according to the determined individual session revenues, and determine respective content values for each of the content items according to the determined total session revenues for each of the content items. Abstract: A system and method may add to a web page a similar-content module which may contain information related to the context of the web page, may look like a portion of the web page, and may lead to a jump page which presents information in the similar-content module in more detail and contains an advertiser's advertisement or a link to an advertiser's web page. If a user is interested in the information in the similar-content module, he may click on the module and be sent to the jump page. Displaying the similar-content module will not cost any advertiser anything. A pay per impression advertiser will not be charged until its advertisement is displayed on the jump page, and a pay per click advertiser will not be charged until its link in the jump page is clicked on.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention fill the need of displaying relevant advertisements to members of targeted online groups (or online community groups), whose group members share common interests. The relevant advertisements are provided by advertisers who promote goods and/or services that the targeted online groups are likely to have an interest. The advertisers choose the targeted online groups based on the description of the common interests, focus or background of the online groups, or based on the categories that the online groups are associated. In one embodiment, moderators of the online groups may screen the advertisements before they are displayed on the online group media spaces. By matching interests, focus or background of online groups with products and/or serviced promoted by the advertisers and by moderators screening advertisements, the advertisements displayed would be more likely to be relevant to the members of the online groups.

Abstract: Methods, systems and programming for presenting content summary of search results. In one example, an input associated with a search query is received from a user. One or more search results are fetched based on the search query. A summary of content with respect to at least one of the one or more search results is obtained. A search result page is presented to the user as a response to the input. The search results page includes the one or more search results and at least part of the summary of content.

Abstract: Methods and Systems for facilitating caching of advertisements are described. The methods include receiving an ad request and generating a serving plan in response to said receiving the ad request. The serving plan includes multiple cache lines that identify corresponding advertisements. Each of the cache lines is associated with a corresponding expiration. Also, each cache line is readable by logic to display one of the advertisements corresponding to the cache line. The cache lines include a first cache line. The first cache line includes ad information, which is associated with a first one of the advertisements. Moreover, the ad information includes one or more parameters for expiration of the first cache line of a client device. The client device is configured to display the plurality of advertisements. The method includes sending the serving plan to the client device to store in the client device.

Abstract: Method, system, and programs for providing enhanced query term suggestions. Candidate query terms may be obtained based on a prefix of incomplete query terms received. The candidate query terms may be ranked, at least partially based on, their similarities with respect to query terms previously entered in the same search session as the incomplete query term. In some implementations, for determining such similarities, feature vectors and/or signatures may be stored in association with query terms. Similarity between a candidate query term and query terms in the same search session as the incomplete query term may be determined using the feature vectors and/or signatures associated therewith.

Abstract: A secure user input system is implemented for a computer system having a user input apparatus and a user output apparatus. The system comprises a user input template, provided to the user on the user output apparatus; and a personal user output interface providing, to the user, personal input interface information, mapped to the user input template, to enable the user to input information through the user input apparatus that is intelligible only to a party having access both to the user input template and the personal input interface information.
