  • Patent number: 4992166
Abstract: A fluid filter and methods for manufacturing same are described. The fluid filter includes: a filter element; a plastic housing for the filter element; and a plastic closure member including fluid inlet holes, each having an axis which is angled outwardly relative to the longitudinal axis of the filter housing. The closure member and the housing can be connected by welding, or the housing and the closure member may include complementary interengageable locking means for engagement. One method of manufacture includes the steps of forming a plastic housing and closure member and spin welding them together. Another method includes the steps of: forming the housing and closure member with complementary interengageable locking members; aligning the locking members; and turning the housing to engage the housing and the closure member. With either method, the assembled filter is then spun onto a threaded stud on a filter mount.

  • Patent number: 4935127
Abstract: A pressure relief valve assembly is described including a valve body having a sleeve portion, a slotted portion and axial extension legs, all of which are integrally formed as one-piece by injection molding from plastic. The legs are hooked at free ends to restrain a compression spring which biases a one-piece, plastic washer into a seated position over the slotted portion. The washer is substantially planar, but with inner and outer circumferential lips, each having a rounded profile. The lips are spaced apart by a medial planar surface area. The inner and outer lips engage inner and outer surfaces, respectively, around radial slots formed in the slotted portion which act as a valve seat. The washer also includes an upwardly extending projection opposite the sealing surface which receives the spring radially inward such that the spring exerts an even force on the washer.

  • Patent number: 4909712
Abstract: An electromagnetic fluid pump having a generally cylindrical housing divided into an inlet chamber, an outlet chamber and an intermediate chamber by a pole member and a separator plate. The pole member is sealingly attached to the wall of the housing and divides the inlet chamber from the intermediate chamber. A first O ring provides a gas tight seal between the pole member and a piston guide which provides a fluid passageway between the inlet chamber and the outlet chamber. The separator plate is sealingly attached to the end of the piston guide adjacent to the outlet chamber and separates the outlet chamber from the intermediate chamber. A second O ring provides a gas tight seal between the internal wall of the housing and a rim portion of the separator plate. An electrical connector having a connector pin provides electrical power to an electronic circuit periodically energizing a solenoid coil to reciprocate a piston disposed in the piston guide.

  • Patent number: 4860158
Abstract: A low pressure metering pump having a hollow piston reciprocated in a cylindrical guide by a solenoid coil. A pair of check valves provide for unidirectional fluid flow through the cylindrical guide in response to the reciprocation of the piston. A seal attached to the piston prohibits a fluid backflow between the external surface of the piston and the internal surface of the cylindrical guide. A bumper seal at the output end of the piston prevents fluid flow through the cylindrical guide when the solenoid coil is de-energized. A control circuit periodically energizes the solenoid coil at a frequency determined by a variable resistance responsive to predetermined operational parameters. In a preferred embodiment, the metering pump is a fuel control element for a heater and the variable resistance is a thermistor or similar type of temperature sensitive resistance, which controls the rate at which fuel is delivered to the heater.

  • Patent number: 4778353
Abstract: An electromagnetic fluid pump having a magnet attached to a reciprocating piston and a hall effect switch detecting the magnetic field generated by the moving magnet. In a first position of the magnet, the magnetic field through the hall effect switch is in a first direction causing the hall effect switch to generate a signal having a first polarity. In a second position of the magnet the magnetic field through the hall effect switch is reversed, reversing the polarity of the signal generated by the hall effect switch. An electronic switch circuit responsive to the signal generated by the hall effect having the first polarity to energize the solenoid coil to retract the piston from the first position to the second position against the force of a spring and further responsive to the signal having a reversed polarity to deenergize the solenoid coil when the piston is in the second position.

  • Patent number: 4749343
Abstract: A high pressure fluid pump having a telescoping cylinder assembly disposed in a cylindrical sleeve. The telescoping cylinder assembly has a stationary member rigidly attached to the cylindrical sleeve and a telescoping member biased towards an outlet port. The telescoping member is reciprocated relative to the stationary member by the displacement of an armature in response to the intermittent energizing of a solenoid coil. An inlet valve connected to the telescoping member and an outlet valve connected to the stationary member provide a unidirectional fluid flow through the telescoping cylinder assembly with the reciprocation of the telescoping member. The outlet valve has a flat valve member which is biased against a valve seat provided at the end of the stationary member adjacent to the outlet port. The flat valve member is preferably made from a resilient elastomer which increases the efficiency of the pump and eliminates forward and back syphoning.

  • Patent number: 4745876
Abstract: A temperature compensating differential pressure indicating device having a lock-out feature requiring internal reset after actuation. The differential pressure responsive indicating device includes a case having an internal chamber and a piston reciprocably and sealingly disposed in the internal chamber. A piston follower is also reciprocably disposed in the internal chamber and abuts against the piston. A first biasing element biases the piston and the piston follower in a first direction while a second biasing element biases these components in the opposite direction, the second biasing element being weaker than the first biasing element. The piston is displaceable in response to the pressure differential between an inlet pressure and an outlet pressure. A shape memory alloy temperature responsive abutment permits the piston follower to move together with the piston at or above a predetermined temperature, while preventing motion of the piston follower below the predetermined temperature.
