  • Patent number: 5255503
Abstract: A frictional false twisting unit including a plurality of driven shafts, a driven pulley on one of the shafts, an externally arranged motor with a drive shaft, an endless loop toothed belt between the drive shaft and the driven pulley. The shafts are on a carriage or base plate which is moveable or swingable with respect to either the motor or a base plate on which the motor is disposed. The shaft carrying base plate or carriage is movable to slacken the toothed belt, enabling removal of the driven pulley from the toothed belt and removal of the shafts from the unit. The thread monitoring devices of the unit remain with the unit while the shafts are removed. Channels for the lateral runs of the toothed belt prevent excessive spread of the belt when it is slack and when the driven pulley is removed. A guide beneath the belt prevents the belt from moving down axially when the belt is slack and the driven pulley is removed.

  • Patent number: 5210593
Abstract: A gauge for measuring the thickness of an unsupported web. One triangulation sensor is located above and the other is located below the web. Each triangulation sensor includes a laser whose beam is bounced off the web to a position sensitive detector in the sensor, which determines the distance of the surface of the web from the sensor. The sensors travel in synchronization along tracks, across the direction of web travel. To detect and compensate in the measurements for any sag or deflection in the track, there is a further laser either on one of the sensors or on the frame of the gauge and a respective further detector on the other one of the sensors and/or the frame of the gauge. The further detector detects the shifting of the sensor toward or away from the web and generates a signal which is combined with the triangulation signals from the sensors to calculate the thickness of the web.

  • Patent number: 5207515
Abstract: To produce an inexpensive small size ball bearing, the inner ring races are formed of spherical segments which are connected to each other at flattened connection places. A row of balls is guided by a respective inner ring race contact point on each of the segments in the region of the attachment place between two segments. In a four point ball bearing, the single row of balls contacts two contact points, one on each spherical segment, that define the inner race and contacts two races formed in the outer ring. In a three point bearing, there are two axially spaced apart rows of balls and three spherical segments in an axial row, two of the spherical segments of the inner ring define two of the inner race contact points for one of the ball rows and two other spherical segments of the inner ring defined two of the inner race contact points for the other row of balls. In both embodiments, the outer ring is split into two parts, each having one contact point on it.

  • Patent number: 5199801
Abstract: A two row angular-contact roller bearing having on undivided bearing ring and one axially divided bearing ring with a respective row of rolling elements rolling over each of the axial sections of the divided ring. The respective comb separator for each of the rows of rolling elements has an annular collar that projects axially toward the annular collar on the other separator. One separator annular collar is radially inclined inwardly and the other separator collar is radially inclined outwardly. The collars are so placed as to interfere, and they are sufficiently flexible as to deform and upon the collars being pushed together for causing the collars to loosely interlock sufficiently to enable one row of rolling elements and their separator to rotate with respect to the other. Elevations defined on the divided race ring sections support the axially inward sides of the rows of rolling elements. A shoulder on the divided race ring section engages the axially outward side of the row of rolling elements.

  • Patent number: 5176457
Abstract: To achieve a dependable axial fastening of a flat cylindrical outer surface of the outer ring of a double row angular anti-friction bearing inside the smooth internal surface of the bore of the external housing in which the outer ring is disposed, the races for the bearing rolling elements, and which are either balls or tapered rollers, are oriented so that the resultant lines of bearing force extend from the rolling elements, converge and intersect the outer surface of the outer ring. The resultant lines of force converge at or radially outward of the outer surface of the outer ring. A respective pair of interruptions, in the form of annular grooves around the outer surface of the outer ring, and having sharp transition edges with the outer surface of the outer ring, are defined at both axial sides of and near to the intersection of a resultant line of force with the outer surface of the outer ring.

  • Patent number: 5150973
Abstract: A mounting sleeve particularly for the loose annular parts of a multi-row anti-friction bearing wherein the rows of rolling bodies are toward the axial ends of the outer ring. The mounting sleeve is approximately U-shaped with a slit opening of about 90.degree. in it extending along the sleeve. At axially opposite ends of the U-shaped sleeve are formed radially inwardly directed flanges which extend over a smaller circumferential angle than the sleeve, e.g. over an angle of about 180.degree., and are each symmetric around the U-shaped sleeve. Projections on the axial insides of the flanges rest axially either against the row of rolling bodies or against the separators for the row of rolling bodies. A radially outward projection opposite the slit opening in the sleeve aids in installation and removal of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5137376
Abstract: A comb separator or cage for ball bearings, including a ring that has a collar projecting axially out of one face. A groove extends around the distal face of the collar. The collar is separated into webs by spherical cavities that accommodate the balls. Lubrication ducts extend axially through the ring and the webs and open into the groove. The separator accordingly provides the lubricant with access to the balls from both sides and increases the reserve of lubricant. Preferably the grooves are approximately trapezoidal in their radial cross-section.

  • Patent number: 5109711
Abstract: The probe is directed toward removal and sampling particulates in possibly corrosive gases in flues. A flue gas removal tube removes flue gas from a suction nozzle and feeds it into a mixed gas feed tube, the inlet of which is of a wider diameter than the outlet portion of the flue gas removal tube. A fresh air tube surrounds the mixed gas feed tube, and fresh air flows down the fresh air tube flows down the fresh air tube and then up the mixed gas feed tube along with removed flue gas. Heating coils in the fresh air tube heat both the fresh air and the mixed gas to a temperature above the prevailing dew point. A closure spaced from the outlet from the fresh air tube and the inlet to the mixed gas feed tube has a funnel shaped development which reduces eddying of fresh air and of outgoing gases. Pitot tubes determine the pressure difference in the flue as well as in the fresh air and mixed gas removal tubes and adjust the respective flows.

  • Patent number: 5101683
Abstract: A crankshaft including an eccentric cranked section which is divided into two parts. A unitary inner ring is force fit over the outer surfaces of both parts of the cranked section of the crankshaft. At each axial end of the inner ring, a groove is opposite a hole in the shaft. A connecting pin extends between them. This prevents rotation of the inner ring around the cranked section of the shaft. For strengthening the cranked section, there is a continuous bore hole through both of its parts and a connecting screw extending through the bore hole. A support for the connecting rod engages the crankshaft cranked section at the bearing inner ring.

  • Patent number: 5074153
Abstract: Calibration of a thread tensioning force meter on a texturing unit for a false twist machine was previously performed differently depending upon the direction of withdrawal, that is forwardly or rearwardly, of the thread from the texturing unit. The thread passes the tensioning force meter by passing over a spring biased support abutment connected with a meter. In the invention, the outlet past the tensioning force meter includes a withdrawal point and slightly upstream of that point a calibration point, which points are separated by a thread eye through which the thread passes. The location of the calibration point is selected with respect to the withdrawal point and with respect to the position of the abutment engaged by the thread that regardless of whether the thread is withdrawn forwardly or rearwardly of the meter, the thread continuously contacts the calibration point. In one direction of withdrawal, the thread only contacts the calibration point.

  • Patent number: 5042822
Abstract: A seal for closing the radial space between two coaxial, radially spaced, relatively rotatable parts. Each of an axially inner and an axially outer sealing ring comprises an approximately L-shaped metal part having sealing lips of elastic plastic material arranged on it. The axially outer sealing ring seated on the radially inward part has a first sealing lip which faces either the interior of the radially outward part or the axial leg of the axially inner sealing ring. To prevent contamination of that first sealing lip, the outer sealing ring has an obliquely outwardly directed fling lip which is radially inward of the first sealing lip and extends approximately into the region of a plane determined either by the axially outer front surface of the axially outwardly extending leg of the inner sealing ring or of the radially outward part. The first sealing lip may also have an obliquely outwardly directed extension located radially inwardly of and extending axially outward of the first sealing lip.
