  • Patent number: 4566262
Abstract: The production of defective yarn in a friction false-twisting unit is deted and prevented. Variations of speed of rotation caused by defects in drive elements, such as worn or jammed bearings or a damaged drive belt, are detected by comparing a signal indicating the speed of rotation of at least one shaft with a reference signal. If the signal differs from the reference signal, an electrical fault signal is generated. This fault signal may control a thread cutting device which cuts the thread coming from the unit; or the fault signal may go to a central thread monitoring station where an operator may observe that a fault has occurred.

  • Patent number: 4553858
Abstract: A bottom plate for emplacement in a bushing having an opening defined by an internal peripheral side wall and a bottom of the bushing. A pin, like the pin of a universal joint cross piece, is received in the opening of the bushing with rollers around the periphery of the pin for permitting rotation of the pin in the opening of the bushing. The bottom plate is disposed between the bottom end of the pin and the bottom of the bushing. Radially extending lubricant distribution grooves are defined in the bottom plate. First ones of the grooves extend over the region beneath the bottom end of the pin along the side of the bottom plate opening toward the pin. Second ones of the grooves extend over the region of the bottom plate beneath the rollers along the side of the plate and opening toward the bottom of the bushing. A step-like transition is defined between the first and the second ones of the grooves in the bottom plate.

  • Patent number: 4551970
Abstract: A disk combination which permits a thread false-twisting device to be operated at a high withdrawal speed is disclosed. The false-twisting device has three parallel rotatable shafts. On a first shaft is a first inlet guide disk for guiding entering thread into a thread path. A second inlet guide disk on a second shaft guides the thread along the path. After the second inlet guide disk, a first working disk on the first shaft begins false-twisting the thread. The first working disk may be one of five working disks, each of which is positioned in the rotational direction from the preceding disk. After the last of the working disks the exiting thread contacts an outlet guide disk, also positioned in the rotational direction from the preceding disk. The disks may be made of a soft material, such as polyurethane, or may be rigid disks coated with a hard material such as nickel containing diamond particles. The thread can be drawn through the device at a speed in excess of 600 meters per minute.

  • Patent number: 4531452
Abstract: A transmitter cylinder is used in a hydraulic system and particularly the ake system of an automotive vehicle. To prevent undesired access into the transmitter cylinder, a lock part is installed at the pedal facing end of the cylinder. The lock part is an annulus. The pedal connected piston extends through the lock part and into the transmitter cylinder. The annular lock part is shaped so that its inner bore will guide and center the piston projecting into the cylinder. A locking element for holding the lock part in the cylinder bore is defined. It is either a radial projection from the lock part or it is a retaining ring held in a groove on the exterior of the lock part. In either case, the locking element projects into a groove defined in the interior of the cylinder bore, which retains the lock part in the cylinder bore against undesired extraction. The lock part may be a hollow annulus or a solid body. The lock part is appropriately configured to permit its extraction with appropriate tools.

  • Patent number: 4522516
Abstract: A roller bearing comprising an annular outer track and a roller cage for itioning shoulderless, self-aligning roller bearings for high loads is disclosed. The cage is a window cage. It supports two annular rows of bearing rollers so that the inner end surfaces of the rollers are almost in engagement with each other. The cage is circular, but is elastically deformable for insertion in the bearing. The axially inner cage ring part between the two rows of rollers extends parallel to the race of the outer ring and lies practically against it. Over the entire circumference and across the entire width of the inner cage ring part, its outer surface is provided with spaced apart indentations which may include lubricant in them. The axially outer cage ring parts extend radially to the inner bearing race ring. The cage is preferably made of a hardened but elastic steel plate and is a single piece for at least one of the annular rows of rollers.

  • Patent number: 4522021
Abstract: A series of spindles is supported on a rail. A spindle brake is provided acting on a selected one of a pair of spindles which are driven to rotate by a belt. The spindle brake is supported on a holder. The holder is pivoted to the rail. A pair of levers pivotally attached to the holder are respectively pulled for pivoting the holder in one and the opposite directions. A brake element is supported to the holder. The brake element includes a brake surface. Pivoting of the holder pivots the brake element to bring the brake surface into braking engagement with the respective spindle. A belt lift-off roller is pivotally supported to the holder on an axis spaced from the holder axis and is so shaped and placed that pivoting of the holder to brake a particular spindle moves the belt lift-off roller to lift the belt off that particular spindle.

  • Patent number: 4511971
Abstract: An antilocking brake system responds to a deceleration above about 12 m/s.sup.2 and resulting from overbraking to cut off the master cylinder from the wheel brake cylinder and effect braking-force reduction. When the deceleration falls below about 10 m/s.sup.2, a threshold discriminator is effective to signal the state of an interval of further braking-force reduction which is a function of twice the rotational moment of inertia of the wheel and after which the braking force is held substantially constant for a predetermined time.

  • Patent number: 4508397
Abstract: The disclosure concerns an anti-friction bearing with a specially formed ulder on its bushing. The bearing includes a shaft with two axially spaced raceways formed in it. Two outer races are associated with the respective raceways. A plurality of ball bearing elements are supported within the raceways. There are cages for guiding the balls in the races. The bushing is positioned between the two outer races. When the shaft is held vertically and the ball bearing elements are to be loaded in the top raceway, the shaft is tilted eccentrically of the outer race at the top to provide an enlarged crescent-shaped space between the inner raceway and the outer race to receive the balls. But, the balls fall down from that space. The bushing has a shoulder on one end which extends beneath the top outer race and near to the balls at that race. The shoulder is generally crescent-shaped and extends about 180.degree. around the bushing.

  • Patent number: 4490128
Abstract: An annular wheel of plastic is rotatably mounted on a central bearing. The wheel has a generally H-shaped cross-section, with radially outward and radially inward arms joined by a radial crossbar. An array of stiffening ribs at various circumferential locations around the crossbar of the H-shaped cross-section stiffen the wheel. To prevent the peripheral travel surface of the outward arm of the wheel from developing undulations during cooling following initial molding of the plastic wheel, the ribs have recesses in their opposite, axially outwardly directed sides. Dimensional relationships between the axial width and circumferential thickness of the rib, and the peripheral surface of the wheel and the thickness of the crossbar of the wheel are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4489546
Abstract: A friction false-twisting unit has three upstanding parallel shafts supported on a base plate. Each shaft carries a plurality of friction disks and the disks are overlapping and interleaved for applying a false twist to filament yarn drawn through the array of disks where they overlap. To damp the oscillation of the entire false twisting unit, it is fastened to the machine bed through interposed damping elements. There is a holding mandrel on the base plate which passes through a guide sleeve. The guide sleeve is, in turn, attached to the mount via the damping elements. With the false-twisting unit absent, the damping elements tilt the guide sleeve and when the unit is in place, its weight in use returns the guide sleeve to a correct orientation, so that the plane of the side of the drive whorl on one of the shafts is parallel to the plane of the tangential drive belt for that shaft where that belt passes the drive whorl.

  • Patent number: 4485617
Abstract: A false-twist apparatus has three parallel shafts carrying interleaved sets of friction disks interconnected by drive belts for joint rotation; one of these shafts is journaled in a stationary mounting plate while the others are journaled in a carrier pivotally connected with that plate for swinging about a fulcrum offset from the three shaft axes whereby two of the disk sets can be separated to facilitate the introduction of a yarn into the intervening twisting region. A whorl on the carrier-supported shaft nearest the fulcrum is normally driven by frictional contact with a continuously moving tangential belt but is disengaged from that belt in the swung-out position of the carrier so that the disks are arrested during introduction of the yarn.

  • Patent number: 4484823
Abstract: In order to determine the boiling point of a liquid, especially a nonaqueous one such as a brake fluid, a device suspended in a body of that liquid--e.g. in a reservoir supplying fluid to a brake cylinder--forms a narrow chamber which is open at the bottom and the top and which contains means for heating the liquid in that chamber and measuring its temperature; the two functions can be simultaneously performed by a thermistor. When the boiling point is reached and the liquid in the chamber is vaporized, partial evaporation of that liquid and replacement thereof by fresh liquid from the main body results in a leveling of the temperature curve; the boiling point marked by this event can be read on a meter and/or qualitatively indicated by differently colored lights, for example. An excessive temperature rise early in the test will also show an unduly low liquid level in the reservoir.

  • Patent number: 4475777
Abstract: A split roller bearing comprises a split inner race having a radially outwardly directed inner race surface, a split outer race surrounding the inner race and having an inwardly directed outer race surface generally concentric with the inner race surface, an annular row of rollers engaged radially between the inner and outer race surfaces, and a plurality of similar roller cage parts together forming an annular roller cage lying mainly between the inner and outer surfaces and formed with respective radially opening windows receiving the rollers. The cage parts each have a radius of curvature smaller than the radius of curvature of the inner surface in an unstressed condition. Thus it is possible to provide adequate material thickness at the ends of the cage parts to prevent the cage from wearing out at these locations. Since the rollers are movable radially in the pockets there is no binding between the rollers and the cage.

  • Patent number: 4474562
Abstract: A belt tensioner has an elongated support bar formed with a transversely throughgoing aperture and an annular inwardly directed lip around the aperture. A hardened metallic inner bearing race is centered on and elongated along a bearing axis and has one end extending into the aperture and formed with a circumferential radially outwardly open groove in which the lip is snugly fitted. An outer race is mounted on and coaxial with the other end of the inner race and is supported thereon by means of roller-bearing elements. The nonmalleable one end of the inner race does not need to be deformed to secure it in the support bar; instead the support bar, which is normally made of malleable steel, is deformed to make the connection.
