  • Patent number: 6533568
Abstract: A casting tool for an air intake duct includes a mold and exchangeable extractable cores for the formation of a cavity. The exchangeable extractable cores are provided for the mold, by which, while retaining the mold as such, different air intake duct geometries, especially different air intake channel cross sections, can be produced. In this manner a plurality of intake duct variants can be produced at substantially constant tool costs. This permits the economical use of injection molded synthetic resin air intake ducts, since the very expensive casting tools can be provided for a sufficient number of air intake ducts.

  • Publication number: 20030041833
Abstract: An insert for reinforcing a flange component and an intake manifold for an internal combustion engine in which such an insert is used. The insert (14a) is open toward a longitudinal side (17) of the cylinder head flange (13), so that a mounting bolt does not have to be pushed through the passageways (16) formed by the insert, but can be inserted from the side. This offers advantages during mounting, since the intake manifold can be pushed onto pre-mounted bolts, which are subsequently tightened to fix the intake manifold. The intake manifold and the described insert are therefore particularly suitable for cost-effective mounting in tight spaces.

  • Patent number: 6524479
Abstract: A filter element 10 for purifying fluids having a filter medium 11, an enclosure member 12, and a rod 13. The filter medium 11 has folds 14, which may be zigzag-shaped, and which define a fold height 15 and a pleat surface 16. At right angles to folds 14 extend end faces 17, which represent the course of the folds 14. The enclosure members 12 are arranged on the end faces 17. To support the folds 14, the rod 13 pierces through the pleat surfaces 16 of the folds 14 creating joints 19. These joints 19 are sealed, e.g., by additional seals or by fusing the filter medium to the support rod or the support rod to the filter medium.

  • Patent number: 6520284
Abstract: A duct or conduit section (10) for installation, in particular, in an air intake system of an internal combustion engine, in which the duct section is composed of two shells (14) which are joined by a snap connection (15). Openings located in the parting seam or joint (16) between the shells (14) are produced by recesses in the half shells. These openings each have a cross-sectional area of less than 7 mm2 and are useful for suppressing noise resulting from the air intake. As a result of the openings, vibration-inducing forces exerted on adjacent components in the engine compartment due to pulsations in the intake tube, can be minimized or avoided. Also, the quantity of additional air drawn in from the engine compartment, which is undesired because it is too warm, is decreased.

  • Patent number: 6517710
Abstract: An assembly for an internal combustion engine comprising an oil filter in a first housing structure 11 and, for instance, an oil separator in a second housing structure 12. The two housing structures can be combined to form a modular assembly. The assembly includes duct structures 20, 21 which are combined to form a common line segment 22 to reduce the material and manufacturing costs for the assembly. The different duct structures may include, for example, an oil drain 20 for the oil filter, which simplifies service (changing the filter element). The duct structure of the second housing structure can serve, for example, to transport crankcase gases to an oil separator in the second housing structure or to return separated oil from the oil separator to an engine crankcase. The oil drain of the oil filter housing may be combined with the drain the oil from the oil pan of the internal combustion engine, and the two drains may optionally be closed by a single drain plug.

  • Patent number: 6517334
Abstract: A molding tool for producing several assembly injection molded components, especially assembly injection molded switching dampers, which are combined into a subassembly by inserting an insertion part, and a method for producing such a subassembly from several components using the molding tool of the invention. The insertion part is encapsulated at least partially by one or more of the components to be injection molded, as a result of which a completely assembled subassembly is produced in the original molding process. This can be, for example, a switching damper assembly 18, which results from a common actuating shaft 17. In this way, assembly injection molded components 14, 15 with a complicated structure can be produced, for which a molding tool with only a single molding cavity would not be usable. The individual components 13 are produced in different mold cavities, which preferably are mounted rotatably on a carousel.

  • Patent number: 6513508
Abstract: A fluid feed duct, which may be used for feeding a stream of recirculated exhaust gas into a stream of intake air for an internal combustion engine. The feed duct includes a hollow structure (10) into which a feed connection (12) is introduced via a joint structure (34). A ceramic pipe (16) is used to prevent heat from the exhaust gas stream from being conducted to mounts in the hollow structure (10) which represents the intake duct of the engine. Consequently, the intake duct can be manufactured of a thermoplastic synthetic resin material, since the risk of thermal overstressing is avoided. The feed connection also has a deflecting segment (19) which is provided in its sides with outlet openings (20). This enables the exhaust gas to be introduced in the direction of flow of the intake air, so that optimal mixing is assured and the hot exhaust gas stream is prevented from passing directly to the wall of the thermoplastic intake duct, thereby preventing the intake duct from being melted.

  • Publication number: 20030015170
Abstract: An intermediate flange system for an internal combustion engine with direct fuel injection. The intermediate flange system is mounted between the intake device and the cylinder head and includes two subunits (10, 11). The first subunit includes a basic body (12) and is responsible for conducting the fuel. The other subunit includes a basic body (13) and serves to conduct the intake air. Both basic bodies can be optimally designed as a function of demands to which they are subjected. Thus, basic body (13) is preferably made of synthetic resin material, and basic body (12) of aluminum. Consequently, the overall intermediate flange system is lighter than prior art systems, which heretofore have been made entirely of aluminum.

  • Patent number: 6508851
Abstract: A filter including a housing with a bottom shell (11) and a cover (13) for receiving a filter element (10). The filter element has a seal (17) that is made of non-woven material and is also used as a filtering medium. The filter element is clamped in a slot (16) between clamping ribs (20) and clamping grooves (21). Manufacturing tolerances of the housing parts can thus be compensated over a wide range. This leads to improved economic efficiency in the manufacturing process, especially as regards the production of synthetic resin housings. In addition, the assembly and retaining forces acting between the parts of the housing can be reduced, thereby simplifying the assembly process.

  • Publication number: 20030010321
Abstract: An air intake device for an internal combustion engine with crankcase ventilation in which crankcase gases are conducted via a duct structure (25) into the interior (18) of the air intake device (10). The duct structure ensures a quasi cylinder-selective feed through a plurality of feed inlets (27) into individual intake channels (20a). The duct structure is formed by the wall of the intake manifold and is sealed by a cover, so that the intake manifold can be produced cost-effectively. This construction has the advantage of ensuring uniform distribution of the crankcase gases among the cylinders while simultaneously enabling economically efficient manufacture.
