  • Patent number: 6341598
Abstract: A device for regulating the intake air of an internal combustion engine, including a pressure box (41), a sealing system on the pressure box, and an opening (42) in the pressure box. A movable mechanical part (43) extends into the pressure box (41) through the opening (42), and the sealing system seals the pressure box (41) in relation to the movable mechanical part. The sealing system includes a synthetic resin friction bearing (45) which contacts the movable part (43) over a predetermined length and which is firmly anchored in the opening (42) of the pressure box (41) by the sealing system. A Teflon ring is arranged in the sealing system at one end of the synthetic resin friction bearing (45) surrounding the movable part (43) in such a way that it is pressure tight.

  • Patent number: 6340011
Abstract: An air intake duct for an internal combustion engine, which has a plurality of intake tubes 13. In one of the intervening spaces 15 between the intake tubes a working element, especially a filter housing 16, is contained. The latter communicates directly with the crankcase of the internal combustion engine, which is not shown in the drawings. The intake duct 10 is affixed over this connection, while the outlets 24 are joined to the internal combustion engine through resilient or elastic isolating elements. The advantage of the intake duct according to the invention lies in improved accessibility of the filter housing, since by unscrewing the cover 17 the filter insert can easily be replaced. Due to the upright position of the filter housing a positively controlled drainage is furthermore assured.

  • Patent number: 6338330
Abstract: An apparatus for moving a valve flap, especially in the air intake duct of an internal combustion engine, including a vacuum box (20) which executes a longitudinal movement in dependence on the application of a negative pressure or vacuum, and the longitudinal movement of the vacuum box is transmitted via a coupling rod (16) to a traverse rod (15), which in turn is connected to an actuating lever (13) for the valve flap (11). The coupling rod (16) and traverse rod (15) system allows the vacuum box to be arranged in any position relative to the valve flap (11). The apparatus can be simplified further by combining the diaphragm disk (27) with the coupling rod (16) to form a single, integral part. In this case, a force is exerted eccentrically on the vacuum box. The eccentrically exerted force can be compensated by the diaphragm having a shape other than a round contour.

  • Patent number: 6334436
Abstract: A secondary air system 10 is proposed for an internal combustion engine, which has a turbine 11 driven by a pressure gradient in the intake air and a compressor 14 driven by the turbine 11. The turbine is connected by a turbine inlet line 12 and a turbine outlet line 13 to an air intake duct 20. The compressor 14 has a compressor inlet line 15 and a compressor outlet line 16. The cold produced by the turbine 11 is used by a turbine heat exchanger 17 and transport lines 27 for the cooling of, e.g., oil. The heat produced by the compressor 14 is used by a compressor heat exchanger 18 and the transport lines 27 connected thereto, e.g., for heating air.

  • Patent number: 6321718
Abstract: An intake module for an internal combustion engine. The intake module including at least two intake ducts which can be opened and closed by rotatable valves. The valves are connected to one another via a coupling mechanism and to a common actuating mechanism in the form of a servomotor. In order to compensate for tolerances between the valves and the actuating mechanism, the coupling mechanism includes at least one elastic portion, formed by a weakened material portion, which allows the intake valves to be closed and opened completely. The resilience of the coupling mechanism can be brought about by a change in cross-section or a material reduction. In one embodiment of the invention, the coupling mechanism includes multi-part articulated main rods which control the valves by resiliently mounted legs.

  • Patent number: 6312488
Abstract: An apparatus for separating liquids, in particular water, from gasses, in particular for separating entrained water from the intake air of an internal combustion engine. This is achieved by appropriately configuring a selected connection site in the intake section which precedes the air filter of the internal combustion engine. This has the advantage of requiring no parts in addition to the air conduit pieces already present. Separated water may be discharged, for example, through an outlet valve or small opening.

  • Patent number: 6312489
Abstract: A filter element for an air filter, including a filter insert (2; 8; 10) and a seal (6) extending around the outer edges of the filter insert on the flat side thereof; the filter insert being folded in a zig-zag or pleated form and being composed of filter paper or filter fabric. The filter element (1; 7; 9; 10) rests against parts of a filter housing through the seal (6). The folded filter insert has a contour on one side which deviates extensively from a plane, at least in certain predetermined areas, thus creating a continuous zig-zag fold.

  • Patent number: 6309436
Abstract: A device for separating liquid particles from a gas stream including a filter insert (8, 9, 11) placed in a gas stream (3) generated by an external pressure difference. Liquid particles remain on the outer surface of the filter insert (8, 9, 11) on the raw gas side and form droplets which can flow down into a collecting chamber (6). The device is a compact separating module (1) with several stages, a cyclone (5), a filter insert (8, 9, 11) and a pressure regulating valve (12).

  • Patent number: 6306192
Abstract: A housing, in particular a pot-shaped filter housing. To connect housing pot 10 and cover 11, a joint consisting of closure elements such as locking clamps or bow clamps 16 is proposed which can be attached at the periphery of the housing via receivers 18. As there are more receivers 18 provided on the housing than locking clamps 16 which are required for absorbing retention forces, it is possible to vary the exact fitting position of the locking clamps according to the respective space available for receiving and mounting the housing. This is essential, because the rotating radius 27 of the tension levers 17 of the locking clamps has to be considered when mounting the locking clamps 16. It is thus possible to provide housings for any field of use with variable receivers for the closure elements.

  • Patent number: 6270710
Abstract: A process for manufacturing hollow synthetic resin bodies or objects in which cores are produced in casting molds, then placed into molds of injection molding machines, and subsequently enveloped with injected synthetic resin material (35) which then solidifies. The molds are then heated up to a temperature at which the cores melt and at which the molten cores can be removed from the molds. The cores are made of shell halves (32, 33) which are assembled before the synthetic resin material (35) is injection molded around them.

  • Patent number: 6267094
Abstract: The invention concerns an oil pump module (11) for assembling in one structural unit, an oil pump (18), an oil cooler (37) and an oil filter (43). Said module has a base element (12) capable of being produced in the form of a plastic housing. An oil pump (18) is inserted from one side and, from the other side, an oil cooler (37) and an oil filter (43). Moreover, the oil pump (18) is sealingly pressed, by the base element (12), against an internal combustion engine frame, so as to be driven by said engine. The invention enables to obtain not only a particularly compact and light oil pump module (11), but also an entire pre-assembled unit, with complete module control at the supplier's.

  • Patent number: 6247438
Abstract: The invention relates to an intake pipe for the intake air of an internal combustion engine. The intake pipe comprises a shift drum which provides continuous adjustment of the intake pipe length. The intake pipe comprises a housing constructed of individual disks which are joined in a sealing manner via ring grooves. The shift drum is preferably made of regulator disks so that it can be assembled without difficulty by alternately sliding a housing disk and a regulator disk on to the drive shaft. The intake channels are sealed by means of sealing lips which are joined to the regulator disks, for example by injection, and are axially supported on annular ribs forming part of the housing disks. This makes it possible to compensate for the tolerances of all of the components. Apart form being easier to assemble, an intake pipe constructed in the above manner also has a lower weight since no inserts are required to configure and seal the individual intake channels.
