Abstract: A method for producing a control valve assembly using a mold comprising an upper mold half (20) and a lower mold half (21). A shaft (11) with premounted bearing blocks (13) or other functional components is placed in the mold, and the control valves subsequently are injection-molded on the shaft (11) in cavities (22) via feeders (23) to produce the control valve assembly. Afterward, the bearing blocks (13) can no longer be detached. Because they are produced separately, the bearing blocks can have a complex geometry. This allows a considerable degree of freedom in the geometric design of the control valve assembly while nevertheless ensuring cost-effective production.

  • Patent number: 6503303
Abstract: An enclosure for an air aspirating machine, such as a compressor 11 for a fuel cell drive 13, which represents a closed volume, so that said volume can be used acoustically for the air that is being drawn in. An air intake 17 is extended into the enclosure 12, which is made of a sound damping and absorbing material 18, so that the resonant cavity 19 acts as a series resonator. The air is drawn in via an air inlet 21 of the compressor 11. Alternatively, the resonant cavity can also be used as a parallel resonator in that the intake path for the air is sealed within the enclosure 12 and is provided only with sound communicating openings to the resonant cavity.

  • Publication number: 20020195075
Abstract: An intake device for an internal combustion engine, comprising welded shells joined along a partition line, in which the partition line is provided with a region for producing inclined additional surfaces, which generate a transverse force Q2 due to their inclination relative to a pressure force D applied for welding the shells. This transverse force Q2 offsets a transverse force Q1 which is generated as a result of the inclination of partial regions of the partition line relative to the applied pressure force D. In this way, the transverse forces which arise during production of the intake device may be at least partially offset in the component, so that little or no forces are exerted on the molding tools, and the welding results for the intake pipe may thus be improved.

  • Publication number: 20020195741
Abstract: A lost core method for producing a hollow structure which method is characterized by fixing the lost core (11) which is to be used in the mold (12) with at least one insert (14), with the insert becoming part of the workpiece (10) to be produced. This is accomplished by casting the insert (14) in the hollow structure. In this way no openings for positioning the lost core (11), which subsequently would have to be closed with a cover, are created in the hollow structure (10) which is to be produced. The described process is therefore useful to advantageously influence the reliability of the resulting molded articles, as well as to favorably influence the manufacturing costs.

  • Patent number: 6485637
Abstract: A liquid filter, suitable for the lubricating oil of an internal combustion engine, having a cartridge installation opening 15 which faces substantially downward, a positively guided oil drain 28 is proposed for draining oil from the filter when the filter cartridge is changed. The positive guidance is effected by a valve stem 29 which is connected directly or indirectly to the housing by a support tube 22. It opens a gasketed drain opening which can be connected to a hose 35 in order to assure drainage of oil, for example, to a separate oil collecting vessel. The drain opening is automatically opened by unscrewing the screw-on cover 11. No other drain plug or the like needs to be opened. This filter is especially suited for installation in confined spaces since the oil can be drained in a reliable manner.

  • Patent number: 6474284
Abstract: An air routing system, especially an air intake system of an internal combustion engine, which makes optimal use of available installation space by integrating a bypass channel (25) into an air intake module (10). The volume of the bypass channel also provides an acoustic shield for the collector chamber or plenum (22). The free area (13) behind the mounting flange (11) that is required for screwing in mounting bolts in order to mount the air intake module (10) is used by an air intake hood (14) which can be installed on the filter housing (15) after the air intake module has been mounted. This assures that there is a greater volume available in the filter housing (15), thereby reducing the noise at the inlet opening of the air intake module.

  • Patent number: 6471755
Abstract: A gas conducting system, particularly a compressed air system for a motor vehicle, which includes a filter containing a desiccant for removing moisture from a gas passed therethrough. The housing structure of the filter is provided with a seal with a weakened area 18, which specifically causes any overpressure to be reduced through failure of the weakened area if the pressure inside exceeds a permissible maximum. This process can be repeated multiple times until the seal with the weakened area 18 must be replaced due to aging. The weakened area can be used as a substitute for a pressure relief valve or as supplemental protection in case the pressure control valve fails, e.g., due to ice. This can prevent, for instance, bursting of the filter housing which could present a safety risk.

  • Patent number: 6457868
Abstract: A shaft bearing system having a housing including a spherical collar for the shaft. The shaft bearing is made up of a cage (19) into which the spherical collar (20) is inserted. The cage is installed in a recess (18) in a housing (16); a sleeve (21) is arranged in the interior of the spherical collar, and an axle stub (22) is inserted into the shaft bearing. The rotational movement preferably takes place between the sleeve (21) and the axle stub (22). The use of the spherical collar in a shaft bearing made up of a cage and a guide bushing has the advantage of greater flexibility in selecting the material or materials from which the housing and the rotatable component installed therein may be formed. The shaft bearing of the invention is particularly useful for accommodating a centrifuge rotor (10) in a centrifuge housing (16).

  • Patent number: 6453866
Abstract: An intake system for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle which includes a first unfiltered air intake (10) which is arranged at a location in the vehicle that is favorable for air intake, and a second unfiltered air intake (11) which is arranged at a location in the vehicle that is protected against road spray and splashes of water. The two unfiltered air intakes (10, 11) each open into a common line (12) which communicates with the internal combustion engine. In the first unfiltered air intake (10) there is a moisture sensor (14) which emits a signal when water enters the first unfiltered air intake (10). This signal actuates a drive member 23 which moves a flap 13 between first and second switching positions. In the first switching position, the flap 13 closes the second unfiltered air intake 11, so that no air can get into line 12 from the second unfiltered air intake 11.

  • Publication number: 20020128140
Abstract: A free jet centrifuge, especially for cleaning the lubricating oil of an Internal combustion engine. The aim of the invention is to provide a centrifuge which is economical to manufacture and at the same time allows for high speeds. To this end on on side of the rotor a ball bearing (16) is provided in the housing whicb engages a closed stub shaft (14) of the rotor. In the area of the bearing is niot inqreased by the oil pressure in the centrifuge. A friction bearing is provided for the other side of the rotor which is composed of a slide bushing (20) and a bearing bushing (21). In this way a combination of materials which is optimal in terms of tribological properties can be selected. A hollow nipple shaft (19) which acts as an oil inlet (24) for the centrifuge rotor is inserted into the slide bushing (20). To increase speed even further, the invention provides for an impulse channel (30) whichi discharges through nozzles (31).
