Abstract: A transmission and control method are disclosed which ensure proper stroke pressure and minimize torque transients during a shift event. The transmission includes a clutch having a torque capacity based on a fluid pressure, a torque sensor adapted to measure a torque value that varies in relationship to the torque capacity, and a controller. The method includes varying the fluid pressure around a predetermined value, measuring a resulting torque difference with the torque sensor, and adjusting a clutch control parameter if the resulting torque difference is less than a threshold value.

Abstract: The stamping of a metal sheet within a stamping die is simulated. The die includes a drawbead running perpendicular to a draw direction. A plurality of successive states are generated for iteratively representing the metal sheet from a blank shape to a final stamped shape. The drawbead is represented as a two-dimensional flat band within a model of the stamping die. Forces acting on the metal sheet are calculated at each successive state to define a next successive state. The calculating step includes a restraining force of the drawbead acting on the metal sheet calculated in response to a predetermined function of a length of the metal sheet engaged in the flat band in respective states. The particular width and location of the flat band achieve improved accuracy of estimating the restraining force.
Abstract: An interior grab handle and lamp assembly for a vehicle including a bracket configured for attachment by fasteners to a structural roof member. The bracket is disposed on an back side surface of a headliner. An elongate handle is operably connected to the bracket via first and second mounting members disposed on an visible surface of the headliner. Abstract: A mixer (100) for a continuous flow reactor (330) and methods for forming the mixer and the operation thereof. The mixer allows for segmentation of a primary reactant flow through a plurality of ports (124) into many smaller flows that are injected as jets into a secondary reactant flow in channels of the mixer. The channel (126) has a constant width dimension to enhance even flow distribution and local, turbulence of the primary and secondary reactant flows. The constant width dimension of the channel and the size and number of the ports of the mixer can be configured to ensure the primary reactant flow injected into the channel directly impinges on a surface (116) of the channel that is opposite the injection point at normal operating conditions.

Abstract: A pressure sequence hydro-forming method is used to form an extruded structural tube. The extruded structural tube is placed in a hydro-forming die that is partially closed to compress the tube. The tube is filled with a hydro-forming liquid at a first pressure. The hydro-forming die is then closed and the pressure of the hydroforming fluid is increased as the hydro-forming die is fully closed. The pressure is increased to a second level of pressure to shape the tube into the desired part shape.

Abstract: Apparatus for moving an automotive vehicle seat along a track includes a motor, a first sensor sensing rotation of the motor, and a second sensor detecting presence of the seat at a reference position along the track. A controller determines a seat position based upon signals from the first sensor and calibrates the determined seat position based upon a signal from the second sensor indicating that the seat is at the reference position. This allows any error that as accumulated in the seat position as determined by the first sensor to be eliminated each time the seat reaches the known reference position.
Abstract: A windmill blade which comprises reinforcing fibers in a toughened resin matrix. The resin matrix is made from a composition which comprises (a) one or more epoxy resins and/or one or more epoxy vinyl ester resins, (b) one or more reactive diluents, and (c) at least one amphiphilic block copolymer. The amphiphilic block copolymer comprises at least two different polyether blocks and is present in the composition in an amount of from about 0.5% to about 10% by volume, based on the total volume of the matrix composition.

Abstract: A lubricant composition comprising a Group I, II, III or IV hydrocarbon oil and a polyalkylene glycol, the polyalkylene glycol having been prepared by reacting a C8-C20 alcohol and a mixed butylene oxide/propylene oxide feed using a double metal cyanide catalyst catalyzed oxyalkylation process, and wherein the lubricant composition remains clear and shows no phase separation at temperatures equal to and greater than the pour point of the hydrocarbon oil is provided. Abstract: In one embodiment of the disclosed subject matter, a trailer backup assist system includes a state estimator that determines a current position of a trailer relative to a waypoint position. In addition, the trailer backup assist system includes a trajectory planner that generates first and second circular trajectories tangent to one another spanning between the current and waypoint positions. The trailer backup assist system also includes a controller that reverses the trailer to the waypoint position along the first and second circular trajectories, which are dynamically regenerated as the trailer reverses along the first circular trajectory.
Abstract: A shotgun rail, or deflector, is provided as part of a front end structure of a vehicle. The shotgun rail includes a triangular shaped bulkhead having a front surface disposed at an oblique angle relative to the front of a vehicle and a rear surface that is disposed at an oblique angle relative to the rear of the vehicle. A laterally facing surface of the bulkhead is attached to a frame rail. Loads resulting from an impact with a small offset rigid barrier are distributed between longitudinal load paths and lateral load paths through the shotgun rails, frame rails, and sub-frame.
Abstract: Various systems and methods for an engine system which includes a throttle turbine generator having a turbine which drives an auxiliary generator and disposed in a throttle bypass are described. In some examples, a throttle bypass valve is controlled to adjust airflow through the throttle bypass responsive to airflow to cylinders of the engine. In other examples, an operating parameter such as throttle position is controlled based on transient operating conditions of the engine. In still other examples, charging of a battery is coordinated between the auxiliary generator and a primary generator.

Abstract: An electric power assist steering motor sensor redundancy system is disclosed comprising a brushless motor selectively providing a first predetermined level of steering assistance for a vehicle. A first sensor and second sensor provide position information of the brushless motor to a motor controller. An alternative sensing system for the brushless motor may be selectively utilized to provide position information of the brushless motor to the controller when at least one of the first sensor or the second sensor fails.
