Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for launching a vehicle in an electric-only mode of operation. In one example, a driveline operating method comprises engaging a parking pawl to an output shaft of a dual clutch transmission in response to a request to engine a vehicle into a parked state, and disengaging the parking pawl via rotating an engine via an integrated starter/generator in response to a request to propel the vehicle solely via power of an electric machine positioned downstream of the dual clutch transmission. In this way, the vehicle may be launched in the electric-only mode without activating the engine in a fueled mode of operation and then deactivating the engine, which may increase vehicle operator satisfaction and which may improve fuel economy.

Abstract: A rotary hinge assembly includes a fluid chamber filled with a fluid and a constricted section with a throat area which is tunable by a throat tuner to control the fluid flow passing through the constricted section. Within the fluid chamber, a rotary connecting pin is mounted so that a first longitudinal end of the pin is connected to a door, and a second longitudinal end of the pin is concentrically and rotatably mounted within the fluid chamber. On the second longitudinal end, a vane is connected and adapted to rotate for displacing the fluid present in the fluid chamber towards the constricted section, when the rotary connecting pin undergoes the rotational movement in response to opening and closing of the door.

Abstract: Techniques and examples pertaining to objection detection and trajectory prediction for autonomous vehicles are described. A processor receives an input stream of image frames and fuses a spatiotemporal input stream of the image frames and an appearance-based stream of the image frames using a deep neural network (DNN) to generate an augmented stream of the image frames. The processor performs object detection and trajectory prediction of one or more objects in the image frames based on the augmented stream.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for mitigating spark plug wet-fouling in an engine system. In one example, a method may include, after spark plug wet-fouling has been detected prior to an engine start, selecting between drying one or more of the wet-fouled spark plugs by routing a heated gas through one or more engine cylinders and by routing a compressed gas through the one or more engine cylinders. In this way, on-demand airflow may be provided to expedite spark plug drying.

Abstract: A vehicle thermal management system including an engine, a vehicle cabin, a transmission thermal loop, and a controller is provided. The transmission thermal loop may include a transmission assembly in operational communication with the engine and a cabin thermal loop. The controller may be programmed to, responsive to detection of an engine off condition, output to a shut-off valve an open command such that heat from the transmission thermal loop transfers to the cabin thermal loop to warm the vehicle cabin. The controller may be further programmed to, responsive to detection of a cabin heater core having a temperature above a predetermined threshold, output a command to a coolant heater of an engine thermal loop to direct warm or cold fluid to the transmission assembly based on a detected transmission thermal loop temperature.
