Abstract: A method of determining battery power capability may include: determining a circuit model for a battery, including a first resistance (r1) in series with a second resistance (r2) and a capacitance (C) in parallel; setting upper and lower limits for r1, r2 and C based on a battery temperature a battery state of charge or both; applying an EKF to determine r1, r2 and C within the set upper and lower limits; and outputting the battery power capability based on r1, r2 and C. The upper and lower limits may be adjusted based on the age of the battery.
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for regenerating a particulate filter of a vehicle. In one example, a method may include, during a non-engine operating condition, regenerating a particulate filter coupled in an exhaust system downstream of an engine by activating an electric heater of the particulate filter and directing intake air through the particulate filter, the intake air bypassing the engine, and adjusting an electrical load of the electric heater responsive to one or more of exhaust temperature and intake airflow.

Abstract: An engine coolant temperature at an expected time of activation of a vehicle is predicted. Upon determining that the predicted engine coolant temperature is greater than an ambient air temperature by a temperature threshold, a vehicle component is actuated at a time determined based on the expected time of activation.
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for conducting an ambient air temperature (AAT) sensor test. In one example, a method may include adjusting a vehicle actuator to reduce a deviation of the AAT measured by an AAT sensor on board a vehicle from an expected AAT and remeasuring the AAT with the AAT sensor in response to the AAT measured by the AAT sensor deviating from the expected AAT by more than a threshold temperature difference. In this way, excessively inflated or depressed AAT measurements at the AAT sensor can be reduced, the accuracy and the reliability of the AAT sensor measurements can be increased, vehicle fuel consumption and emissions can be reduced, and vehicle drivability can be increased.

The power control system includes a controller programmed to, in response to a precharge request in a presence of the main contactor being closed when commanded to open and the return contactor being open, couple the resistor across the return contactor to precharge the load bus.
Abstract: Systems and methods for improving hybrid vehicle cooling are presented. In one example, an electric pump may supply transmission fluid to a transmission and a driveline integrated starter/generator to cool, operate, and lubricate driveline components. The electric pump may be selectively operated to conserve energy and to supply driveline cooling when driveline cooling may be desirable.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for mounting a fuel pump to a cylinder head of an engine. In one example, a mounting system may comprise: an engine fuel pump mounted directly to a cylinder head cap positioned underneath a cam cover, the cap including a raised portion having a first and a second cap mounting boss, and a main opening for directly receiving the fuel pump, wherein each of the first and second cap mounting bosses couple to a flange formed on a bottom portion of the fuel pump. In this way, the fuel pump may be directly mounted to the cylinder head cap to simplify assembly, minimize fuel leakage and reduce pump vibration.

Abstract: A visible light communication system has a two-dimensional array of sources and an image sensor with a pixel grid defining a pixel direction (which in some embodiments is a rolling shutter direction). Modulation of the light flashes the sources to define a series of one-dimensional patterns encoding the data to be transmitted. The patterns extend in a direction that projects onto the imager orthogonal to the pixel direction. In the case of a rolling shutter, the pattern is orthogonal to the rolling shutter direction, which allows the encoding of multiple bits per line of the image frame. In other cases, the orthogonal direction obtains the maximum resolving power available from the image sensor.
