Abstract: Data on an impending curve, speed, and acceleration of a vehicle are collected. A curve attention output that is a measure of the vehicle speed, the vehicle acceleration, and the curvature of the impending curve is determined based at least in part on the data. An output mechanism in a wearable device is activated at a first intensity when the curve attention output exceeds or is equal to a first threshold and below a second threshold. The output mechanism is activated at a second intensity when the curve attention output exceeds or is equal to the second threshold and below a third threshold.

Abstract: A method of inspecting and determining characteristics of an aluminized coating of a hot stamped part is provided. The method includes removing a sample from the hot stamped part for Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry (GDOES), analyzing the sample using GDOES, and plotting constituent element weight percentages versus depth on a graph. The method further includes determining points on the graph where constituent elements intersect and where the points of intersection indicate the characteristics of the aluminized coating. The characteristics of the method include, by way of example, a total thickness of the aluminized coating, a thickness of an inter-diffusion layer (IDL), constituents of the aluminized coating, constituents of the hot stamped part, phase composition of the aluminized coating, surface oxidation, and weldability.

Abstract: A hydrogen fuel cell vehicle system and method inhibit formation of black ice on road surfaces at low temperatures as a result of exhaust water by treating the exhaust water prior to discharge with a deicing or antifreeze substance to lower the freezing point of the water. A metering device may meter a deicing or antifreeze substance, such as sodium chloride, calcium chloride, urea, or the like to be dissolved in the exhaust water that is produced during the production of energy. The vehicle may include a bypass valve that selectively bypasses the water treatment system when ambient conditions are not conducive to ice formation. The bypass valve is operated to direct exhaust flow to a condenser and water treatment system when ambient conditions are favorable to ice formation, with the deicing or antifreeze substance metered based on current or predicted ambient or road surface conditions.

Abstract: An anti-rotation oil filter system to prevent inadvertent release of the oil filter from a lubrication system is provided. The system includes a ratchet gear attached to one of either the oil filter or the engine's oil filter attachment base. In both embodiments, a spring-loaded ratchet release pawl is provided to engage the ratchet and to thereby hold the filter in place against the attachment base until such time as the filter needs to be changed. Where the ratchet gear is fitted to the filter, a ratchet release pawl is associated with the engine's oil filter attachment base. The teeth of the ratchet ring gear extend outwardly from the filter. Alternatively, where the ratchet gear is fitted to the engine's filter attachment base, a ratchet release pawl is associated with the filter. Regardless of the embodiment, the ratchet gear and pawl arrangement restricts filter rotation to maintain clamp load.

Abstract: An electric machine having a rotor is disclosed. The rotor defines a cavity containing a magnet, an outer periphery, and a top bridge therebetween that includes at least two slots each having a length in a radial direction. A maximum of the lengths is closest to a Q-axis and a minimum of the lengths is closest to a D-axis. Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for cooling an overheated engine using a combination of variable displacement engine (VDE) technology and direct injection technology. In one example, a method may include deactivating a subset of engine cylinders based on an engine temperature and directly injecting liquid fuel into the deactivated cylinders. In this way, an increased thermal conductivity of the liquid fuel compared to air decreases the engine temperature at a faster rate than when air-based engine cooling methods are used, thereby preventing overheating-related engine degradation.
