Abstract: Disclosed are compositions-of-matter composed of a continuous elastomeric matrix and a liquid; the matrix entrapping the liquid therein in the form of closed-cell droplets dispersed throughout the matrix. The disclosed compositions-of-matter are characterized by a low tensile/compressive modulus and are capable of retaining the liquid for exceedingly long periods of time. Further disclosed are processes for forming the compositions-of-matter and uses thereof.

Abstract: A method and device for harvesting and storing solar energy is provided. The device converts solar energy to electrical energy via the photovoltaic effect. The device includes a pair of electrodes, at least one of which is transparent to allow solar energy to pass through. A medium is disposed between the electrodes which exhibits a combination of photovoltaic and ferroelectric properties. When solar energy passes through the transparent electrode and is received by the medium, electron-hole pairs establish a voltage potential between electrodes in the device via the photovoltaic effect. The voltage potential may be retained and the mobile charge may be stored in the absence of solar energy via the ferroelectric effect.
Abstract: A eukaryotic input circuit: computationally designed receptors, synthetic eukaryotic signal transduction pathways, and a synthetic signal sensitive promoter that allow highly specific transcriptional induction in response to an externally provided ligand is disclosed. The input circuit is able to specifically bind a targeted substance and transmit a signal to the nucleus where transcription of a gene is activated. An output circuit serves as a simple readout system of the substance detected by the input circuit. The readout circuit exemplified here is a degreening circuit which causes plants to turn white. Activation of the degreening circuit can be detected by eye, or remotely with a variety of machines (hand-held, aircraft or satellite based) and is also resettable. When linked the input circuit if operably linked to the output circuit, produces a functional plant detector.

Abstract: Trustworthy systems require that code be validated as genuine. Most systems implement this requirement prior to execution by matching a cryptographic hash of the binary file against a reference hash value, leaving the code vulnerable to run time compromises, such as code injection, return and jump-oriented programming, and illegal linking of the code to compromised library functions. The Run-time Execution Validator (REV) validates, as the program executes, the control flow path and instructions executed along the control flow path. REV uses a signature cache integrated into the processor pipeline to perform live validation of executions, at basic block boundaries, and ensures that changes to the program state are not made by the instructions within a basic block until the control flow path into the basic block and the instructions within the basic block are both validated.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a CDK-inhibiting pyrrolopyrimidine carboxamide derivative or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutical composition comprising the same as an active ingredient for preventing or treating liver cell cancer. Compositions comprising a pyrrolopyrimidine carboxamide derivative of the present invention suppress the cell growth of SNU-354 cell, which is a liver cancer stem cell in humans, by inhibiting CDK1 and CDK2, and induces cell apoptosis of the cell by inhibiting CDK7 and CDK 7. Such compositions are useful for preventing or treating liver cell cancer.

Abstract: A brake shoe for a drum brake is provided. The brake shoe includes an arcuate brake table defining a radially outer side configured to receive a brake lining and a radially inner side opposite the radially outer side. The brake table further defines a plurality of sleeves proximate a first end of the brake table. The sleeves are aligned along an axis and axially spaced from one another. Each of the sleeves is configured to receive an anchor pin therein through which the brake shoe may be pivotally coupled to a brake spider. The sleeves are disposed about more than half of a perimeter of the anchor pin.

Abstract: Provided is a coordinated communication method and apparatus that may perform coordinated communication based on long-term channel information, for each sub-band. Base stations may exchange scheduling information of each sub-band with each other to determine a priority among the base stations, and may perform rescheduling for each sub-band based on the determined priority. The base stations may obtain the long-term channel information, and thus may reduce overhead occurring with exchanging of information between a base station and a terminal or between base stations, and may decrease damage due to a delay of channel information associated with a terminal.

Abstract: Table format programming method suitable for use with multiple languages and download through internet and network environments provides an optional table (103, 200) to define custom expressions, an optional table (105, 260) to specify multitask applications, an optional table (104, 230) to specify printing style of labels and a table of configuration states (113) which interact with a table of paths (116). An optional qualifier table (112) defines qualifying conditions of an input configuration state. Hardware embodiments includes a coprocessor to handle the table format programming process and relieve the main processor for other applications. During programming, programmers provide user defined labels to describe the function and action desired. The labels are then further developed in additional groups of program.

Abstract: At least two biometric measurements of a person are collected, then a statistical measure based on the measurements is computed. The statistical measure is a bounded estimate of the discriminative power of a test based on the measurements. While the discriminative power is less than a target value, additional biometric measurements are collected. When enough measurements have been collected, a biometric template is constructed from the measurements and stored for use in future identifications. Systems and software to implement similar methods are also described and claimed.
