Abstract: An apparatus and method for preventing parking brake-caused disabling of a vehicle is provided. In at least one of the vehicle's parking brake release actuators' supply lines there is provided a flow arrangement which allows parking brake release fluid to flow to and from the release actuator when its supply line is undamaged, and restricts flow from the release pressure source when the line between the flow arrangement and the actuator is damaged. The flow arrangement may be a pilot-operated, non-graduated control valve, a combination of a pressure protection valve and a check valve arranged in parallel, a velocity-sensing check valve, or any other device or combination of devices which provide the damaged line shutoff or metering functionality. Such an arrangement prevents automatic application of the parking brake by releasing pressure from all of the vehicle's parking brake actuators, thereby precluding automatic vehicle immobilization following damage at one wheel end.

Abstract: The vertical silicon photomultiplier according to the present invention includes a trench electrode and a PN-junction layer perpendicular to the trench electrode forms and can maximize the quantum efficiency at optical wavelengths, 200˜900 nm in such a way that: it generates electric fields horizontal thereto, by applying a reverse bias voltage to between the trench electrode and the PN-junction layer, so that, although ultraviolet light does not reach the PN-junction layer but is incident on the surface, electron-hole pairs can be produced by the horizontally generated electric fields although and an avalanche breakdown can be thus generated, and it allows ultraviolet light, capable of being transmitted to a relatively deep depth, to react with the PN-junction layer.

Abstract: Systems and methods of resistance-based memory circuit parameter adjustment are disclosed. In a particular embodiment, a method of determining a set of parameters of a resistance-based memory circuit includes determining a range of sizes for a clamp transistor and selecting a set of clamp transistors having sizes within the determined range of sizes. For each clamp transistor in the set of clamp transistors, a simulation may be executed to generate a first contour graph representing current values over a range of statistical values. The first contour graph may be used to identify a read disturbance area and a design range of the gate voltage of the clamp transistor and a load of the clamp transistor. The method may execute a simulation to generate a second contour graph representing sense margin over a range of statistical values of the gate voltage of the clamp transistor and the load of the clamp transistor.
Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatus for a solar cell integrating photovoltaic and thermoelectric cell elements to form a hybrid solar cell. Abstract: The present invention relates to a scanning microscope using an I/Q-interferometer. The scanning microscope includes an I/Q-interferometer which demodulates the phase change and amplitude change induced on the probe beam to provide the I- and Q-signals, an XY scanner, a scanner driver, a precision motion stage controlling the displacement of the sample along the direction parallel to the direction of the probe beam, a motion stage driver, a focusing/collimating device, and a computer. The computer transfers control commands to the scanner driver for scanning the XY scanner, receives I- and Q-signal provided from the I/Q-interferometer, processes the I- and Q-signal to obtain the corresponding phase and amplitude values at each scanning point, calculates error signal for maintaining constant phase during the scanning, and transfers commands to the motion stage driver for the precision motion stage to compensate for phase changes caused by surface morphology during the scanning.

Abstract: A method of producing nanoparticles by using chemical curing. The method includes depositing a metal thin film on a substrate, applying an insulator precursor on a metal thin film, and adding a curing agent and a catalyst to the insulator precursor to perform the chemical curing. The method also includes mixing metal powder and an insulator precursor, applying a mixture on a substrate, and adding a curing agent and a catalyst to the mixture to perform the chemical curing. Since the chemical curing process is used in the method, it is possible to form nanoparticles by using a simple process at low cost while a high temperature process such as thermal curing is not used.

Abstract: Antibodies, and particularly human antibodies, are disclosed that demonstrate activity in the treatment of demyelinating diseases as well as other diseases of the central nervous system that are of viral, bacterial or idiopathic origin, including neural dysfunction caused by spinal cord injury. Neuromodulatory agents are set forth that include and comprise a material selected from the group consisting of an antibody capable of binding structures or cells in the central nervous system, a peptide analog, a hapten, active fragments thereof, agonists thereof, mimics thereof, monomers thereof and combinations thereof. The neuromodulatory agent has one or more of the following characteristics: it is capable of inducing remyelination; binding to neural tissue; promoting Ca++ signaling with oligodendrocytes; and promoting cellular proliferation of glial cells. Amino acid and DNA sequences of exemplary antibodies are disclosed.

Abstract: A cast iron brake caliper with improved fatigue life, and a process and process equipment for pre-stressing a cast iron brake caliper to provide improved fatigue life, is provided. In the process, a load is applied to a cast iron caliper, where the load is high enough to locally yield and plastically deform the cast iron material, but not high enough to cause material failure, such as cracking. Upon load removal, residual compressive stresses in the cast iron caliper lower the mid-point of the stress range the plastically-deformed region of the caliper sees during in-service use, and thereby lowers the peak stress seen in this region, increasing fatigue life. The process permits a cast iron brake caliper to be designed to use less material and thus fit within constrained wheel rim envelopes, without the need to resort to high cost materials or other alternative design strategies.
