Abstract: This document discusses, among other things, brain stimulation models, systems, devices, and methods, such as for deep brain stimulation (DBS) or other electrical stimulation. In an example, volumetric imaging data representing an anatomical volume of a brain of a patient can be obtained and transformed to brain atlas data. A patient-specific brain atlas can be created using the inverse of the transformation to map the brain atlas data onto the volumetric imaging data and a volume of influence can be calculated using the patient-specific brain atlas. In certain examples, the volume of influence can include a predicted volume of tissue affected by an electrical stimulation delivered by an electrode at a corresponding at least one candidate electrode target location.

Abstract: A method of detecting a compromised machine on a network. The method receives an email message from a machine on the network and classifies it as either spam or non-spam. A probability ratio is then updated, according to whether the message was spam or non-spam, by applying a sequential probability ratio test. If the probability ratio is greater than or equal to a first threshold, then the machine is compromised. If the probability ratio is less than or equal to a second threshold, then the machine is normal. The operations of receiving a message, classifying the message, updating the probability ratio, and indicating the machine is normal or compromised until the probability ratio is greater than or equal to the first threshold are repeated for a plurality of messages. Such repeated operations are performed on each of the messages one at a time, as each of the messages is received.

Abstract: This disclosure examines using alginate lyase to catalytically degrade alginate in order to decrease affinity and fouling potential to membranes of 0.2 and 0.02 ?m pore size, respectively within a process line of a filtration system. Enzymatically treated alginate caused less fouling on both ultrafiltration and microfiltration membranes than original alginate. Enzymatically treated alginate is predicted to cause less fouling on both membranes within the pH range of approximately 3.0 to approximately 10.0. Without the presence of calcium cation, alginate lyase reduced the foulant resistance by more than 82% for both membranes. In the presence of 1 mM calcium cation, alginate lyase reduced the foulant resistance by more than 55%. In addition, the foulant structure composed of enzymatically treated alginate was more readily removed by backwashing, suggesting reversible fouling. The advantages of using enzymatic technique to control membrane fouling include high efficiency and no damage to the membrane materials.

Abstract: A method of inducing latency in Mycobacterium permits preparation of an in vitro model system of latent mycobacterial infection. Latency is induced in a pure culture of Mycobacterium by exposing it to multiple stress conditions, including a low nutrient culture medium without glycerol, a low pH, a relatively high level of carbon dioxide and a relatively low gas phase oxygen level. An in vitro model of mycobacterial infection employs macrophages induced from THP1 cells which are then infected with Mycobacterium. The infected macrophages are grown under hypoxic conditions to induce latency in the mycobacteria. The in vitro model of infection is useful in evaluating compounds for activity against latent mycobacteria.
